Chapter 638: I Came at the Wrong Time

Henry sighed, finally giving in and went to open the door.

Kerry stood there, grinning.

"Am I interrupting something?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

He shouldn't be, considering he was there to deliver the serum.

As they spoke, Alvin wheeled himself out of the room in his new wheelchair.

"Is the serum here?" Alvin asked eagerly.

Kerry nodded, feeling this was the right attitude.

"Yeah, you told Mr. Stewart to have it here by 12:30 tonight, so I brought it myself. Gonna let me in?"

Of course, they had to let him in. After all, he was bringing something that could save a life.

"Mr. Stewart said this serum was for you and to deliver it on time. Also, don't forget the celebration party in two weeks. You gotta be there."

Zoey and Henry exchanged glances.

"Don't worry, we won't miss it," Zoey assured him.

"Alright then, I'll leave you to it. Get some rest," Kerry said before leaving.

Alvin eagerly eyed the black case on the table. He couldn't wait to open it.

Inside the case was a vial of serum and a syringe.

He looked at Zoey, clearly hoping she would help with the injection.

Zoey didn't hesitate. "Before I inject this, I need to check if the serum is safe."

They were so close; if the serum had any issues, all their efforts would be in vain.

"I understand," Alvin replied.

The testing didn't take long. Zoey had already prepared a series of equipment in the room, including testing instruments.

After nearly two hours, the results came back, and everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

"The serum's good to go," Zoey announced.

To Alvin, those words were like a terminally ill patient hearing they wouldn't die. He almost jumped for joy.

Of course, he couldn't jump.

Zoey could feel his urgency and didn't say much. She quickly injected the serum, and everyone else woke up and rushed to the living room to witness the moment.

The serum began to break down the remaining toxins in Alvin's body, but it would take time.

"Don't just stand here watching me. Go back to your rooms. I can't stand up immediately anyway," Alvin said.

They had all been busy for days and were exhausted. Zoey's words convinced them to head back to their rooms.

Alvin didn't go back immediately because he knew he wouldn't be able to sleep.

"You can stay here and reflect on life," Zoey said, planning to go back to her room to rest.

"Thank you," Alvin said softly.

Zoey paused but didn't turn around.

"I'm sorry for my previous actions. It was wrong of me to shut you out and abandon you. You're my teammate. It was my narrow-mindedness. I'm sorry," Alvin admitted.

Zoey waved her hand and went into her room.

She had long since moved past it.

Alvin looked down at his knees. He hadn't expected that the person who would help him stand again would be Zoey. Without her, he would have died on this mission.

None of the other team members could have guaranteed his survival. No, without Zoey, none of them would have made it out alive.

He glanced at the closed door with a complex expression, then wheeled himself to the balcony.

He couldn't sleep.

He decided to spend the night on the balcony, watching the stars.

The night passed quietly.

Everyone woke up one by one and saw someone cooking in the kitchen.

Flora didn't think twice. "Glenn, why are you up so early?"

Glenn walked out from behind her.

"Not that early. I woke up around the same time as you."

Flora was stunned. "Glenn? If you're here, then who's in the kitchen?"

The person in the kitchen was tall and had a straight back, clearly a man, but not as tall as Henry.

"No way."

Despite her words, she couldn't hide her excitement. She rushed to the kitchen and saw Alvin making breakfast.

"Your legs are better!" she exclaimed.

Alvin turned around, a rare smile on his usually defiant face. "Don't be so surprised. I told you yesterday that the serum would heal my legs. What's so shocking?"

"You seem calm now, but who was the one who couldn't sleep last night, waiting for the serum?" Flora teased.

Flora mercilessly called him out.

Alvin's mouth twitched, but he was in such a good mood that he didn't argue. Instead, he handed her a sandwich.

"Just eat."

Flora took a bite and found it delicious.

"You're pretty good at this."

Alvin calmly made another sandwich. "It's just breakfast. If you want to talk about skills, I'm not as good as Glenn."

Glenn had been the one making breakfast before.

"Glenn, come eat breakfast."

Glenn and Linda joined them, followed by Zoey, Henry, and Shadow Warlord, who were the last to come out.

The three of them shared a room.

Flora was wide-eyed. "Can I ask how you three slept?"

"On the floor," Shadow Warlord said.

Henry didn't say anything but agreed.

Even if he wanted to be close to his fiancée, he wouldn't do it under others' watchful eyes.

So he had to endure the cold, hard floor, which left him with a sore back.

He couldn't wait to go home.

After breakfast, everyone prepared to go their separate ways.

They felt a bit reluctant to part.

"Zoey, when we get back, I'll invite you to my place. You have to come!"

"I'll be waiting for your call."

"And after we part, I want to send you some gifts. Make sure to answer my call."

Flora was the most reluctant to leave.

She had a soft personality and always felt sad about goodbyes, especially after going through hardships together. The bond was different.

"Got it. We'll answer your call."

They got into their cars and headed home.

Zoey looked at Henry. "Let's go home and see our families."

Henry nodded and looked at Shadow Warlord.

Shadow Warlord didn't hesitate. "I'm not going with you. I want to see my sister."

So the three of them got into the same car but parted ways at the intersection.

At the Phillips Mansion, a group of people stood anxiously in the living room, each more nervous and eager than the last.

"Why aren't they back yet?"

"I told you we should meet them at the gate, but you wouldn't listen."

"You know how they are. They don't like a big fuss. We're already planning a surprise and a welcome party. We're worried they won't like it."

The group was noisy.

Jesse banged on the table. "Enough! I order everyone to go outside. They will understand our intentions."

Jesse strode out.

The others exchanged glances.

Maya muttered, "He just wants to go himself."

By the time she finished speaking, everyone else had already gone outside. Maya quickly followed.

Zoey and Henry got out of the car and saw a group of people waiting eagerly by the roadside.

Maya ran towards them.

Henry opened his arms for a hug, but Maya ran past him and hugged Zoey.

"You're finally back!"

Everyone else was equally excited.

"Thank goodness!" Jesse almost cried with joy, but quickly wiped his eyes to maintain his dignity. "Let's not stand here talking. Come inside."

The Phillips family was very worried about their situation. They didn't know what was happening in the lab, only that it was an important mission.

So when they asked about it, Zoey gave a vague answer.

"It was a tough mission, but it's all resolved now."

"I knew you could handle any mission," Jesse said proudly, grateful for his decision to welcome Zoey into the family.

After dinner, Zoey decided to go out.

She needed to visit the research institute.

At the institute, Juliette and Ruben were waiting.

They knew the mission was important and didn't ask many questions, just confirmed her safety.

"We're stuck on the H5 serum research. Did you find anything useful?" Juliette asked.

Zoey did. "I brought back some valuable data from the lab. It should help."

The data detailed the development process of serums, such as H5. While it wasn't the H5 serum itself, it was highly informative.

Most importantly, the serum itself was impressive.

Exclusive to the Institute for Global Strategy and Analysis.

Other research institutes couldn't get it.
