Chapter 183: Ready for Surgery
"Dr. Johnson, Mrs. Young's physical condition has reached surgical standards. We can schedule the surgery."
Diana stared at the email, her fingers hovering over the keyboard for a long moment.
Finally, she typed her response.
"Glenn, I understand. Please contact Mr. Windsor so we can arrange the surgery schedule as soon as possible."
Diana leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes.
Celeste's surgery—this was one of the main reasons she had returned home.
When Glenn first contacted her, he'd explained that Celeste's condition was critical and that she was the only one who could perform this surgery.
Diana had hesitated for a long time before finally agreeing.
Because she was a doctor.
Just then, her office door opened.
James walked in. "Dr. Johnson, you're back?"
Diana stood up. "Dr. Mills."
James continued, "Dr. Johnson, I heard Mrs. Young's surgery is about to begin?"
Diana nodded. "Yes, Glenn just emailed me saying Mrs. Young's physical condition has reached surgical standards."
James's eyes lit up. "That's wonderful! Dr. Johnson, would it be possible for me to participate in this surgery?"
Diana paused. "Dr. Mills, this surgery is extremely complex."
James immediately responded, "I know, but Dr. Johnson, I really want to learn from your surgical techniques."
Diana hesitated for a few seconds, then nodded. "Alright, I'll speak with Glenn."
James eagerly shook her hand. "Thank you, Dr. Johnson!"
Diana smiled and nodded.
After James left, Cynthia approached. "Dr. Johnson, are you really going to let Dr. Mills participate in the surgery?"
Diana nodded. "Why not?"
Cynthia frowned. "But Dr. Johnson, Dr. Mills's skill level..."
Diana knew what she was getting at and said directly, "Cynthia, Dr. Mills is very skilled, and this surgery will require extensive teamwork."
Cynthia nodded. "I understand."
Diana picked up her phone. She hesitated for a long time before finally sending Charles a message.
"Mrs. Celeste Young's surgery can be scheduled. When would you be available?"
Within seconds, Charles's call came through.
Diana answered. "Hello?"
"Diana." Charles's voice was filled with excitement. "What did you say? Can grandmother's surgery be performed?"
Diana nodded. "Yes, Dr. Foster said Mrs. Young's physical condition has reached surgical standards."
Charles's voice was trembling. "Diana, thank you."
Diana remained silent.
Charles continued, "Diana, when are you available? We should meet to discuss the surgery."
Diana hesitated for a few seconds. "Tomorrow afternoon at three, Hopewell Hospital."
Charles immediately replied, "Perfect, I'll be there at three sharp."
Diana hung up and prepared to make her rounds.
She stepped out of her office.
In the hallway, several nurses were chatting.
"Did you hear? Dr. Johnson is going to perform surgery on Mrs. Young."
"Really? That's supposed to be the most difficult cardiac surgery in the country!"
"Yes, I heard only Dr. Johnson can perform it."
"Dr. Johnson is incredible!"
Diana walked past them, and the nurses immediately stopped talking.
"Hello, Dr. Johnson!"
Diana smiled and nodded.
She entered a patient room.
A patient was lying in bed.
Diana approached. "Mr. Palmer, how are you feeling today?"
Dean Palmer smiled. "Dr. Johnson, I'm feeling much better, thank you."
Diana picked up his chart. "Mr. Palmer, your cardiac function is recovering very well. You should be able to go home in a few days."
Dean's eyes brightened. "Really?"
Diana nodded. "Really, but after discharge, you need to rest and avoid overexertion."
Dean nodded repeatedly. "I understand, Dr. Johnson, thank you!"
Diana smiled and left the room.
Walking down the corridor, her mind was completely occupied with tomorrow's meeting with Charles.
She hadn't seen Charles since Laura's funeral.
The man had been sending her messages constantly these past few days, but she hadn't replied to any of them.
Meanwhile, at Windsor Group.
Charles sat in his office, reviewing the company's recent financial documents. After rooting out Baron's people, the finance department's reports looked much better than before.
Nathan walked in. "Mr. Windsor, there's an urgent meeting tomorrow afternoon."
Charles shook his head. "Cancel it. I'm going to Hopewell Hospital tomorrow afternoon."
Nathan paused. "Mr. Windsor, are you going to see Ms. Johnson?"
Charles nodded. "Yes, to discuss Grandmother's surgery."
Nathan nodded. "I'll arrange it immediately."
Charles looked out at the night sky, his eyes filled with anticipation.
For some reason, he felt that long-lost nervous excitement he used to feel when he and Diana were dating.
The next afternoon at three o'clock.
Diana arrived at Hopewell Hospital right on time.
She wore a white coat with her hair pulled back in a ponytail.
Glenn was already waiting in the conference room.
"Dr. Johnson, you're here."
Diana nodded. "Dr. Foster."
Glenn smiled. "Dr. Johnson, we're fortunate to have you for this surgery."
Diana shook her head. "You're too kind, Dr. Foster. This is what I should be doing."
Glenn continued, "Dr. Johnson, I've invited several of the country's top cardiac surgeons to assist with this surgery."
Diana nodded. "Good, having more people will increase the surgery's success rate."
Just then, the conference room door opened.
Charles walked in.
He wore a black suit and looked somewhat haggard.
When Diana saw him, she instinctively turned her head away.
Charles approached. "Dr. Foster, Dr. Johnson."
Glenn stood up. "Mr. Windsor, you're here. Please, have a seat."
