Chapter 8: Ten a.m.

It took a bit of time before Sin appeared again. He was now fully clothed, his eyes thin as he grabbed another cigar.

He said nothing to me as he walked away, closing the door behind him. My lips parted as his scent finally faded with him, and I blinked, my chest heaving lightly.

Slowly, I went to the edge of the bed and sat on it, my eyes slowly misting up. I wasn't sure how to feel about this entire thing. The fact that I was going to be a fake wife for five months and then be cast aside again... it felt like I was garbage. Like I was easily disposable.

I swallowed, my hand covering my face, my lips parting to let me breathe. I thought about it again. If Sin so badly wanted me to get revenge on his wife, did it not mean that he still loved her? What if, in the end, I become the fool between them while they both...

The train of thought was broken as a knock came on the door. I looked up, my brows furrowing. Did Sin mention that someone would come? I couldn't quite remember. It was all fuzzy and muddled in my head, and I couldn't think straight.

Slowly, I stood up, then walked to the door. I stopped, my hand holding the door knob. What if it was Larissa? What if she came to attack me or something like that?

I bit down on my lips. We could probably thug it out or something. Sin wouldn't be too angry if I beat up his ex-wife, would he? After all, he obviously hated her. And he couldn't beat her up. I could be ending this early.

I opened the door, ready to throw a punch, but stopped.

An elegant attendant was standing outside, her hands folded in front of her, her lips lifting in a small smile.

"Ma'am. Mr. Sin had asked us to come."

My brows furrowed as I took them in. "Who are you?"

She gave another smile. "I am Maria, a hotel attendant. I have brought your makeup and styling crew. Please do let them in. I have also been directed to tell you that breakfast will be by ten a.m. down in the VIP hall, and you also have to attend the charity ball and auction by six p.m."

I blinked, my eyes blinking rapidly. I have never heard such fancy stuff in my life.

"Did you say ten?"

"Yes, Ma'am. It would be best if you let them in now. These things do take a bit of time."

I nodded, then immediately moved away from the door. She smiled and then ushered the women behind her. Some of them held boxes and kits, and I wondered what exactly they would be doing with all of those.

"Good morning," one of them said as I closed the door. "I am Angela. We are going to follow Mr. Sin's instructions and give you a classic, natural look. We are going to start by washing your skin, so please change into a robe."

"You are going to give me a bath?" I asked.

She gave a smile. "You are going to do it yourself, ma'am."

I nodded, letting out a small sigh. Slowly, I walked down to the bathroom. I opened the door, my eyes taking in the place. It was massive and had a stand-alone bath right in the middle.

There was a rack of clean towels and robes and an array of toiletries. I grabbed whatever I could, then went to the bath.

I have never used a bath, and I decided to use it instead of the shower. I ran the bath after a bit of tinkering around, then got in, my eyes closing. They were right. It felt like heaven.

Ten a.m, they had said. I needed to leave. I got out, then grabbed a robe and wrapped it around myself. I carefully put the toiletries back where they belonged, then walked out of the bathroom.

I looked around, my eyes settling on the large walk-in closet. It was mostly empty, however, and I wondered if Sin really stayed here or if he stayed somewhere else.

I walked towards the waiting woman, and Angela gave me a small smile. She adjusted the seat, and I took it, my eyes resting on my reflection in the mirror.

"We are going to start now."

I nodded, my eyes closing as I leaned back, sighing. How could anyone's life change so drastically in one day? Yesterday, by this time, I was running to the burger place to secure money to pay off my late father's debt.

Now, I am here, sitting in front of an expensive crew of stylists. I swallowed. Just for five months, Annalise. Don't let it get to your head.

I sighed and opened my eyes. They were drying my hair off and slowly curling it, too. I watched curiously as they seemed to be whipping out equipment that I had never seen before.

I did try to keep my hair clean, but I couldn't recall ever being at a professional salon. Once they let my hair down, one slowly came to take my hand, and then started to clean out my nails.

I watched as she filed it, then brought out a nail polish. It was a light pink color, one that would look natural, like there was nothing there.

I turned back to the mirror, and Angela came to assemble her kit. It was compact but slowly started to open up. She pulled out layers and layers of colors and brushes, each serving a different purpose. Or at least, that's what it looked like.

Once she was done arranging it, she turned to me, then gave a small smile. "I will start with your makeup now. Please cooperate with me, so I can get you down for breakfast by ten a.m."

I nodded. Like hell, I didn't want to be late, too.
