Chapter 41: Let you go

Silence filled the room, and I clutched onto Sin even tighter, my tears still very much alive.

"Are you a fucking clown? I, Samantha Anne Ferguson, wife of Mr. Ferguson, CEO of Dawn Group of Companies, go on my knees? I do not care who you are, but you have some animal audacity to request that of me. You are a..."

"Please," I said, turning to her. "Don't insult my husband like that. I was the one who tried on your dress, and you should take it out on me. He did nothing to you."

"A very protective bitch, I see. Well. Pay for the dress and hand it to me."

"You should have told me you wanted a free dress, Samantha. I would have added you to the charity list and brought a cozy gown for your little spawn to wear down the aisle." Sin's voice was calm, but I knew him well enough to know it always was.

"I am past charity, and you know that. I am the one who gives charity, not the other way around."

"I see," Sin said, then slowly pulled his phone out. "Let's hear from your husband, shall we?"

My brows furrowed, and silence fell on us again. Mrs. Ferguson looked anxious now, and her brows furrowed darkly as she watched Sin's phone ring.

On the very last ring, she broke into a laugh. "He is too busy for paupers like you. You can't just meet my..."

"Mr. Sin!" Came a voice, and she immediately froze.

Sin held me tighter. "Yes, it is I. I have a little problem with the investment of three hundred million dollars in your company."

"Wh... what? Your assistant assured me that... that it would go well. Please don't do this now. What is wrong? I can fix it, I promise."

"The problem is... I probably won't be able to afford the amount anymore. You see, your wife has just made my lady cry over twenty million dollars. I intend to repay her, but then... I wouldn't have enough to spare for your company."

Mrs. Ferguson's eyes widened as her husband started to go off, begging. Sin didn't say a word more but cut the call, his eyes filled with pride.

"Go on with the purchase. Until you apologize to my wife, I will make sure you do not have enough affluence to manhandle a worker like that or anyone else. I will make sure you don't get to sit where my wife does."

The threat rang clear, and his fingers gently massaged my waist now. I caught the attendant's smile as she crossed forward and picked up the card.

"I will immediately swipe it, Sir. Is there anything you want?"

Sin slowly turned to me, his free hand pushing my hair back. His phone was ringing incessantly, but he wasn't paying attention to it, his eyes taking me in.

"Is there anything else you want?"

I shook my head, the tears refusing to let me talk, my eyes searching his. He gave a small smile.

"I hear women wear a little tiara on their weddings. Maybe you should add one to your purchase. Walk down the aisle as daddy's little princess."

My lips parted as his thumb ran slowly over my cheeks, wiping off the tears.

Suddenly, a different phone rang, and Mrs. Ferguson immediately picked up, her chest heaving. She turned away, but I could hear her voice, loud and hysterical. Suddenly, she came back again, and Sin's phone started to ring again.

This time, he picked it up, letting everyone in the room hear it.

"Please, Sir. Let me come to your office and apologize to you. I beg of you. Please."

"You do not have to. Your wife is here, and honestly, I feel way too much respect for you to watch you go on your knees. I am much younger, you see."

Mr. Ferguson went quiet for a while, then gave a small breath. "She will kneel. Please. She will."

He gave a small smile. "Once she does, I will invest."

Mrs. Ferguson had turned pale now, and I swallowed as she slowly walked to us, her head now hung low. Her fingers clutched the hems of her dress, and she could neither watch me nor Sin.

"Please..." she started to say, but her voice trailed off, her breath shaky.

"You don't have to," I said, my lips parting. "But you slapped the innocent woman. That is unforgivable."

She closed her eyes and swallowed, then slowly turned towards the attendant. "I... I am sorry. I am sorry for slapping you."

Sin put a hand around my shoulders now, his other hand turned away in his pocket.

"It is fine. I... made a mistake," the attendant said, but I could hear her relief.

It felt good being seen. Felt good being apologized to.

"Are you sure you are okay?" Sin asked, his face turning to me, his eyes dark as he watched me.

I nodded slowly, my eyes fixed on Mrs. Ferguson, as she walked away, her head hung low. The attendant smiled at the both of us, then walked away, leaving Sin and I alone.

Silence fell on both of us, but he didn't leave me like I thought he would. The picture of an affectionate husband was all a facade, wasn't it?

He sighed against my skin, his eyes closing, his lashes lightly brushing mine.

"I... I don't want this dress, Sin. You don't have to pay so much just for a dress and..."

"I loved seeing you in it," he said quietly, his lips parting against my cheek. I swallowed, turning to him, knowing just how close that would make us.

His eyes were still closed, and his other hand left his pocket to trace down my arm. He squeezed my wrist lightly, then just held it there.

I bit down on my lips slowly. "Did you really?"

He nodded. "It reminded me of the perfect marriages I have always dreamed of. A perfect bride. A woman."

His eyes opened, and he met my eyes. They slowly darted across both of mine, and he gave a small chuckle, his finger coming to playfully caress my cheek.

"Thank you, I guess. For standing up for me even though you were being bullied."

I sniffed, and he gave a small smile, then wiped my cheeks a little more. "Now that we both know you're a crybaby, I will be gentle with you for the next five months. We still have four months and... a few more days."

I nodded slowly, just as the sound of a camera clicking brought me out of the little enchantment that had encased us.

"I took a photo!" Angel yelled, running to us.

Sin gave a small laugh, then leaned down to her, his warmth still tingling around me, everywhere.

"How about with you, too?"

She nodded, jumping around, and the attendant that had brought her back immediately kept the bags and came to take her tablet.

Sin came back up to me, his hand gently wrapping around my shoulders once more. My hand rested lightly on his hand, and I slowly turned to him.

My lips parted as I met his eyes instead of his profile, and I stayed there, finding myself getting lost in the dark abyss of his eyes.

He gave a small smile, his eyes traveling down my face. Without a word, he turned away, and I gave a wistful smile as I turned to the camera too.

All that I could think of now was how if I had been in Larissa's shoes, I would never have let him go. The prospect of a few months now chipped a little off my heart.
