Chapter 34: Twisted
Sin held my hand as we walked out of the hotel, then led me to the car. He looked sober now, his eyes cold as he closed the car door, then walked over to the driver's side.
I turned to him as he came in, then started the ignition. He said nothing still, and the drive was silent, his eyes focused on the road. I closed my eyes in an attempt to clear my mind, as it felt foggy from the events of today.
Maybe I would never understand what was happening, but that child, she could never be so at fault. Even for me, even though I was fully grown...
I shook my head and lay back, closing my eyes. I needed to at least sleep so the thoughts wouldn't consume me whole.
Sin was smoking a cigar in the car when I woke up, his door opened, and his back to me. I slowly leaned forward, my eyes landing on him.
"Sin?"
He slowly turned, then turned away again. I couldn't see what he was doing, but I saw him step on something, and when he turned back to me, he didn't have the cigar anymore.
I turned around. It was right outside the mansion, and he had just parked the car.
"Why are we here?"
He didn't reply for the longest time before he gave a small shrug. "I sometimes need space from the mess I have made."
I swallowed. "That man?"
He sighed. "I do not feel remorseful for that man."
"Then... do you feel sorry for Angel?"
He sighed, his eyes closing briefly. "Not necessarily. Sometimes, I just wonder if things would have been different had I left her with her real parents."
"It sure would be different," I said, leaning back. "For the worse, Sin. I mean, Larissa was willing to let her daughter be defiled at such a young age. Just the exposure and I am worried about what that child may have seen happening in her own closet. I would hate it so much had we come back a little late and something happened to Angel and..."
Sin suddenly covered the distance, his hand culling behind my head, his face a mere inch away from mine. I felt my breath hitch in my throat, my lips parting as I blinked, my eyes wide.
His eyes were thin, invisible as he looked down at my lips.
"Stop talking," he whispered, his voice so low that I found myself leaning dangerously close to hear him. "What you did back there was attractive enough."
I met his eyes, and he was letting his dart slowly between mine, his lips lightly parted.
"I... I think every sensible woman out there would hate something like this."
"Maybe. But you don't have just one incident going for you."
I blinked a little as he released me slowly, then let his eyes drink me in before he turned away again. I struggled to catch my breath, my eyes blinking rapidly, my body heating up. This is not meant to happen.
Sin suddenly walked out of the car, and I immediately followed him, my eyes averting his. He did not try to talk to me, as we slowly went upstairs to his room. It was dark, and he turned on the night lights.
Angel was lying in bed peacefully, her hair sprawled on the pillow.
"You should take a bath and change," he said, gesturing towards the bathroom.
I immediately nodded, then walked towards the bathroom. There was a cabinet of clean robes and towels, and I slowly went to the shower cubicle. I didn't trust myself with baths, especially not baths that looked that perfect.
I took a bit of time so Sin would get to spend time with his daughter without me interfering. After a while, I stepped out of the bath.
Sin was in bed, his body above the sheets, his hand wrapped around Angel, his eyes closed. I sighed. It must be so exhausting being on the defense every single day of his life.
I covered the distance, then gently pulled the sheets out. I turned them both in, then leaned away, adjusting Angel's pillow.
They were good now, and I grabbed one of the few extra pillows, then brought it to the large couch. I let myself lie on it, then sighed, wrapping my hands around the couch's pillow, my eyes staring off at the large painting above the massive round bed.
It didn't take too long for me to drift off to sleep again.
When I woke up, I was alone in the bed, and both Sin and Angel were nowhere to be found. I immediately sprang up and got out of bed.
My untrained feet were not too sure where I was going exactly, but I needed to find them. Thankfully, I heard the giggles from downstairs and decided to try. I finally figured the stairs out, then climbed down.
Sin and Angel were sitting on the couch, and she was lying in his lap, her eyes fixed on her tablet while Sin watched TV.
His eyes were thin with focus and concentration, and I slowly came up to them.
"Good morning," I said, and Sin slowly turned to me, his brows furrowed lightly.
He gave me a nod but said nothing more as he turned away.
"Mummy!" Angel yelled, dropping her tab as she stalked up to me, her hand wrapping around my knees.
I laughed, letting my fingers sink into her hair, my eyes finally looking up to the TV. My brows furrowed.
It was a lube broadcast, and even though he was covered in blood from his mouth downwards, I could recognize Aldo anywhere.
"Aldo?" I said impulsively, my brows furrowed.
I turned to Sin, then lightly brought Angel closer to me, my eyes wide. Sin seemed unfazed but a little confused too, his brows drawn. There were gory pictures of Aldo lying in a hospital stretcher, and I slowly turned towards Sin.
"Did... did you do that?" I asked, my lips parted, even though I knew he couldn't have. But I couldn't be too sure, right? Could I?
"No," he said, just as the reporter went on to report how Aldo had died from the cyanide poison.
