Chapter 30
“ It is time you learn what happens to girls who have loose lips, and what you do and say has consequences, little Mistress.” He got up from me, and I used the opportunity to kick his legs from under him and push myself up from the ground fast. I didn’t think so; I just started fighting against all of them. I landed a few punches and some kicks, but then a kick from behind made me fall to the ground.
Someone grabbed me by the hair and smashed my head onto the ground. When all the fight had left my body, they turned me around on my back. When my eyes opened, I saw one of the guys unbuckling his belt and Hezron was already on top of me. Tears streamed down my face.
I tuned out, and I don’t know why, but for some reason, Kaden entered into my mind, remembering that warm feeling I got from him the day a woke up with him next to my side after I used too much of my energy source.
Kaden, I need you!
Was all I could think of before my mind slipped away and everything went dark again.
( Kaden )
“ Kaden, speak to me. What is going on?” Deon begged as we rode on the horses heading in the direction the emulate was pointing.
“ Meara, she needs me. She summoned for me!”
“ What do you mean she summoned you.”
“ I don’t know how, I heard her say that she needs me, and her heart is beating crazy. She is in trouble.”
This wasn’t good. Meara needed me. I felt it like it was my own pain. Her heart was beating really fast, super-fast. She was scared and in grave danger.
Fuck, Fuck. Why couldn’t I go faster!
I screamed, and my core felt like it was going to explode from the darkness consuming me. I stopped my horse, and jumped off, going down on all force. Deon was at my side in an instant.
“ Kaden What is it.” Deon asked concerned. I screamed again. My core burning up. I fight against it, trying to keep it in.
“ The darkness,” I said through grunts and gritted teeth. “ It is taking over.” I grabbed ahold of my head, and I scream.
“ Kaden.” Deon fell next to me.
“ It’s consuming me….The more I fight…The more excruciating it becomes.” My body went into spasms as another scream left my mouth, and lightning clawed its way out of my core.
“ Kaden, just give in. Let it take over.” Deon said, placing a hand on my shoulder for comfort.
“ The more you fight it, the worse it is going to get.” I didn’t think twice, and let the darkness consume me.
The moment I gave in, the deafening sound of bones breaking rebounded in my ears. I scream from the insufferable pain.
“ Deon…run.” I manage to say through the pain. I could feel his hand retracting from my shoulder as he started to run. Shrieks filled the forest as my body started to shift.
What the Fuck is happening to me?
I watch confused as the trees around me grew smaller, and my hearing increased. My vision also enhances, now able to zoom in and out like a magnifying glass.
Something connected with the ground behind me, the earth vibrated underneath my feet. I looked behind me, only to notice this huge black tail behind me and big black wings. My entire body was covered in black spikes. My skin was now a leather like texture with a hue of blue reflecting in the moon like a pearl fresh out of water.
I jolted upwards, and the huge wings spread open at my side, making a whooshing sound as they started flapping. My mind was baffled. I am a dragon.
From my vantage point up in the sky, I could see Deon on the back of a horse, heading in the direction of Dravonia.
Meara!
I suddenly remembered. He won’t make it in time. It was as if this new body immediately reacted when I thought of her. A faint static erupts as I breach the sound barrier, the thunder of my arrival a tangible blow.
The barrier came in to view, her signal came from within this big dark cloud, almost black, covering the entire kingdom like a dome. I close my eyes as I was about to enter, hoping it wouldn’t block me out, but I went through with ease.
My dragon eyes picked up heat signals among the trees. There are four heat-signals vibrating, one of which was Meara’s. Her body was lifeless on the ground. Heat rises in the back of my throat. I circle lower, the rush of wind roars beneath my talons.
Three men fell entirely silent as I descent, their scent of terror assaulting my nostrils. With a controlled crash, I land, the ground rumbling on impact. My wings unfurl, casting long shadows across the surface.
My throat became constricted in a tight knot when my eyes fell upon Meara, covered in blood, brutally beaten. My gaze sweeps over to the three men. One was still trying to get his pants back on, but his hands trembled with fear as I towered over them.
They will fucking pay for what they have done! No mercy upon those who have assaulted my Mate. Let them fear me as they scurry into the woods. My neck burned as the heat rose to my throat, and when I opened my mouth, lightning blasted out of my mouth.
I aimed for those bustards, and one of my lightning bolts pierced right through one of them, leaving a hole the size of a melon in his torso. The smell of burnt flesh invades my nostrils, giving me a slight satisfaction.
The other two men were just out of reach for my lightning to catch them, so I set ablaze to the darken trees, and watch them take fire. Those Mother Fuckers will burn to death in this forest.
( Meara)
It was cold, dark and a feeling of being broken lay heavily on my gut. Nobody remained who could pull me out of this darkness. My mom was gone, Merilla was gone. I had nothing to live for.
My mind started to shut down, but then a gush of wind blew over me, and then something hard connected to the ground next to me. I could feel the vibrations beneath me. I force my eyes to open just the slightest. My vision hazy, but I could make out a huge black figure.
I was completely numb; I couldn’t even move. The cold consuming me didn’t even scare me this time, and my breathing had become shallow. My aching muscles were a grave reminder of what I have been through at the hands of those monsters, and then everything went dark again.
Somewhere between being unconscious and half awake, I felt a hand scorched my neck. it was so warm and welcoming.
“ She has a pulse.” A voice said.
“ You need to get her to the healers.” I could feel my body being lifted from the ground. I wanted to wake, to scream for help, but here, no help was going to come, only more punishment.
After what I have done to those three, I would be sent to the Harvesting and tossed into the pit where that creature will dismantle me. I could feel the cold of my magic prickling at my fingertips, but I was way too weak to wield it, and even if I tried, I would not be able to summon it in this cursed kingdom.
I felt my body shook slightly from the movement. I could hear it’s heartbeat, it was scared. It wasn’t the adrenaline of some fun activity that was going to take place later on. A Thestral, scared, It didn’t make any sense. Hezron must have threaten Bree with her life.
The movement stopped and I started to feel the wind slightly on my face, and It was warm and comforting.
“ She is ice cold. We need to take her to the healers in Valtor.” A familiar voice said.
Valtor? I was back home. How in the world was that even possible? I didn’t remember leaving the barrier. I had no recollection of how I have gotten back into Kaden’s Kingdom. The last part I remembered was feeling extremely drained and collapsing.
“ Your Highness, please just hold on.” A soft voice spoke into my ear just before I dozed off again.
( Kaden)
I only have myself to blame for this. I should have been there that day at the Elemental games. None of this would have happened.
If only I knew that it was my dragon trying to get free. Heck! If I only I knew that I was a dragon, I wouldn’t have suppressed it.
Whatever she went through, I wasn’t there to protect her from it, and it was something I would never be able to forgive myself for as long as I lived.
