Chapter 18: The New CEO

Robert POV:

I knew I couldn’t beat him. If I was still in the Mafia, he wouldn’t have dared to touch me or my wife. But now I have to do something. I can’t believe I let this all happen!

I scoffed and went out of the building. I can’t tell her that it was him…and that sucks.

I was glad that I was gonna finally meet her. I have no idea what he did to her in the last days. But somewhere I knew there was a line he would never cross. Because no matter what, he is still my brother.

I sat in my car, which he was using till now and then drove to my house. 

She wasn’t around, so I switched on the television to know about the company. 

“Anderson Corporation to be in hands of Mrs. Anderson, looking forward to the biggest deal of the decade”

“Critics against the decision, warns that the experienced should have taken the next step prior to this transfer of power”

I sighed. This deal can prove to be very useful. I have to tell her to make correct decisions. No matter what the circumstances, she will listen to me, right?

I turned off the tv and sat down, as I waited for her. Where is she anyway? The company?

I decided to wait because I didn’t wanna seem like a stupid, because maybe John himself sent her somewhere and then she’ll be suspicious that something is wrong.

After an hour, the doorbell rang, and she came inside. “Hey,” I said to her.

She looked at me. “Hi”

She surely has a changed tone. She sounds too cold.

“Uh…how are you?”

She looked at me and made a troubled face. She sighed. “Just don’t change again”

I looked at her. How I wanted her to know that it wasn’t me till now, but I can’t.

“I…uh…last chance?”

“No.” She took a step back. “You know what? I took over the business, and that is all you ever wanted anyway.”

“No, Hailey, I…that’s not everything…I love you. You know that—”

“You know, you can force me again if you ever want me to do anything. You are now behaving nicely because you want me to love you the same. but you will do it again. You will torture me again when you need something again”

I looked in her eyes and stopped myself from breaking. “That isn’t true—”

“You made me realize how vulnerable I am, Robert” she looked down. “but not anymore”

“Hailey…believe me. I am sorry”

“After you got what you wanted? Sorry, I can’t believe you” she scoffed and went to her room. 

I stood there and sighed. I don’t know if I can do anything. Of course, she won’t believe me after what happened. But…I want her because this is…not fair. I was not there!

I sat down. I needed to think about something.

Hailey POV:

I was in my room. He can’t possibly change again!

I know this all is new to me. being the boss, controlling the top company, taking the big decisions, but now that I think of that, it is quite good and interesting.

I don’t feel vulnerable anymore. Maybe I need to be a better woman now. Maybe I can take advantage of this situation regardless of his intentions about this.

My phone started ringing. I picked it up.

“Mrs. Anderson, I’d like to inform you that the business association is conducting a press conference in regards with the change of CEO of Anderson Corporation. I’ll send you the details soon, and you can provide us your free time”

“okay”

The call ended and my heartbeat rose. I was feeling so nervous. 

I went out of my room to get water. He was sitting there. 

To be honest, he feels annoying to me now. I mean, he can just force me anytime, say anything, and when his work is done, he is returned to the ‘loving’ state. I really don't like people like these. If you love me, then love me all the time!

I took water from the kitchen and sat in the living room. We’re not talking, but that doesn’t mean I will not sit here.

I sat down on my seat and started thinking of the speech I’ll give. I know Robert told me that we don’t usually prepare it, we just speak on the spot, but I guess I will have to think about it!

I took out my phone and started typing it on a notepad. After I was done, I looked at him. He was staring at me.

“What’s your issue?” I asked him. He sighed.

“I heard about the conference—”

“Oh well, you said that it is none of your business anymore. Why are you worried now?”

“Look, I just wanna help because you are new—”

“You know what, Robert, I really am not showing off about what I got, but I would like to stay away from you” I got up and went to the room.
