CHAPTER 88

Maurice's Spell

The whole room fell silent as everyone waited for Maurice to talk, and Alexa was already drowning in regrets knowing she was done for.

Her mother was going to be disappointed in her if she found out that her eldest daughter had a wedding without her knowledge and that it was a contractual one.

But Alexa decided to have fate in Maurice that he was not going to include that in his words.

"I am.." Maurice says, taking Alexa's sweaty hands in his and the lady heaved a heavy sigh. "Alexa's boyfriend," Maurice says, and Alexa feels a feeling of relief wash through her and that was like the most interesting words that Alexa had heard that day.

She knows that Maurice saved her by referring to himself as her boyfriend and she was grateful for his help.

"What! Her boyfriend?" Priscilla asked, confused, wondering why the rike was switched, but Alexa gave her the face that she was going to be explaining later.

"You are her boyfriend? Why is it that I am just getting to know you?" The woman asked, and Alexa sighed knowing that was her line.

"About that Mom, we started dating just recently…and you were still recovering. That is why I wasn't able to tell you anything like that," Alexa says, and Maurice squeezes her hands.

"Oh, that seems right, then come sit my dear you should not be standing," Alexa's mother says, asking Maurice to come and sit.

Maurice let go of Alexa's hands and he walked towards the bed handing over the fresh flowers to get and he dropped the fruit basket.

"Hmm ... .this smells great and it is also fresh," the woman said, and Maurice smiled. "Doesn't it cost a fortune to buy fresh flowers now? Are you that well-off?" Alexa's mother asked, going off to business as she dropped the flowers aside.

"What are you doing Mom? Don't tell me you are about to..no mom don't do that," Alexa begged, because she knew that the man might get roasted by her mother and he might snap.

"What did you mean? He is the man you choose to be your man. You don't expect me to just accept it, right?" She asked, and Alexa shook her head.

Maurice was rather more relaxed even though the woman was acting tough, he knew that she was just trying to keep him on his toes.

"So, what did you do, young man?" Alexa's mother asked, and Alexa sprouted into action. "He owns a small textile store!" Alexa yelled, and her mother glared at her.

"I do not ask you Alexa, let the man speak for himself," the woman says, and Alexa sighs.

"Priscilla, why don't you and your sister take a walk outside?" Alexa's mother asked, telling them to excuse her.

Priscilla dragged the reluctant Alexa out leaving Maurice alone in the room with her mother.

"Did you think mom is going to catch anything?" Alexa asked, and Priscilla shook her head.

"I don't know, but why are you guys lying?" She asked, and Alexa explained about the consequences of telling the truth.

"That's true though," Priscilla agrees, and she sighs. "But the CEO is a handsome man..he looks more handsome than how the magazine portrays him," Priscilla says, and Alexa agrees.

Maurice Heather was no doubt a handsome man that is why she was bewitched and now wrapped around his fingers.

The two waited in the hallway for a long time and Alexa got impatient and she decided to go check on her mother and Maurice.

"I am going in..I am really anxious about what is going on in that room," Alexa says, and she goes into the hospital room to see her mother laughing at whatever Maurice just finished saying.

"What is this scene? I thought Mother was interrogating him?" Priscilla asked, and Alexa sighed seeing that Maurice had bought her mother over.

It's Maurice's spell, anyone can get bewitched by it, and Alexa was stuck already.

"Mom?" Alexa called to make their presence known and the woman beamed at her happily.

"Come here Alexa, you need to come tell me where you found this clown, he is too funny," Alexa's mother says, bursting into laughter and Alexa is confused.

'Maurice is a clown? Is he funny? Why doesn't she know that kind of Maurice?' Alexa wondered.

"I am happy that you two get along, but you need to rest mom, you have been up like this since morning," Alexa urged her mother to bed, but the woman was reluctant to go to bed.

"But I am still catching up with my son-in-law," Alexa's mother says, and Alexa was surprised.

'What! Son-in-law? Are you not a little fast Mom?' Alexa wondered, but she did not correct her.

"Don't worry Mom, I will make sure to visit tomorrow," Maurice promised, and Alexa wondered how the two could bond so well that they were informal with each other.

After Maurice's promise, Alexa's mother later went to sleep and her sister Priscilla walked them out.

"It's really nice seeing you CEO brother-in-law," Priscilla giggles, and Alexa wonders how her sister turns to jelly. "I am sorry that I am just coming," Maurice bowed a little, and Alexa was surprised.

She never knew that Maurice could be that humble, and she wondered if that was part of his act.

"Since I am guilty about not treating you to dinner too..I should make up for it," Maurice says, handing over some dollar bills which surprised Priscilla.

Alexa was surprised at the huge money Maurice was handing out, and she was sure that her sister was going to reject it.

"This…I am..so..grateful for it," Priscilla says, bowing her head as she collects it, and Alexa wants to berate her but Maurice cuts her off.

"Then we would be going now," he said, bowing his head, and Priscilla waved them off.

The sky was already dark when they stepped out of the hospital and the two walked towards Maurice's car that was parked.

Alexa was relieved about the day's incident and she relaxed in the car. She thought back on how her lie would have been blown and she decided to thank the man.

"About today I want…" Alexa was saying, but Maurice cut her off.

"So many men went to see your mom today?" Maurice asked, and Alexa felt her throat parched hearing the question.

She thought the man would have forgotten about it looks like he hasn't.

"About that…it's just some few friends checking up on my mom," Alexa debunked, and she hoped the man would buy her lie.

Maurice didn't say anything more and the car fell into silence with no one talking.

The silence was irritating Alexa because she had so much to say, but she knew if she asked an implicating question she might be in trouble, but the silence did not last as Maurice spoke.

"This weekend let's have a date," Maurice says, in the car and Alexa almost throws up hearing that.

"What! A date?"...
