CHAPTER THREE
Dylan watched as Zane put off the TV as soon as the talk show came to an end. He smiled at him as he swirled his chair back to his seat and beckoned to Dylan.
“What’s on my schedule again?” Zane asked as Dylan dropped the file in front of Zane again while standing beside him.
“You have to finalize the agreement with Jonlab Companies” Dylan said and Zane nodded as he stood up and buttoned his suit jacket.
“Where is the meeting place?” Zane asked as Dylan walked towards him and adjusted his suit for him.
“The usual place” Dylan said as Zane nodded and picked his phone as he started walking out with Dylan behind him. The workers in the passageway of the thirteen floors quickly bowed in curtsey as Zane and Dylan walked by.
Dylan pressed the elevator button and the doors slid open and they both stepped inside. Dylan pressed the button of the last floor as he texted the security downstairs to wait for Zane in front of the company.
“What do you think of Harley’s talk show either?” Zane asked as Dylan rolled his eyes behind him.
“I was busy collating the materials for the finalizing of the contract and didn’t have time to watch” Dylan lied smoothly and Zane turned to him puzzled.
“It didn’t interest you did it?” Zane asked as Dylan managed a small smile.
“President Wilson, I was busy collating the materials. Even if it did, I still wouldn’t be able to watch it” Dylan replied as Zane nodded and slid his hands into his pockets.
“I know it didn’t interest you” Zane said as Dylan chuckled lightly behind him. Like him, Zane knew a lot of things about him. He used to think that Zane never bothered about him until they went out to eat one day and someone dropped a plate of shrimps in front of him, before he could reject Zane had told the waitress that he was allergic to sea food except crabs. Shocked and surprised he had asked Zane how he knew and the latter told him that he had never seen him eat sea food except for crabs.
And it was then that Dylan realized that even though Zane rarely gave reaction to people around him, he was extremely observant and noticed almost everyone and everything around him. His respect for him had gotten a lot more notches more and Dylan tried to serve him sincerely as well.
Dylan’s phone rang in his pockets as soon as the elevator doors slid open and Dylan picked the call and pressed the phone to his ears.
“Good afternoon Miss Shaila” Dylan said as he glanced at Zane who kept walking as if he didn’t hear Dylan speak.
“I’m so sorry Miss Shaila. President Wilson is occupied and will not be able to make it for the dinner. I apologise” Dylan said as he instantly removed the phone some meters away from his ears as the lady at the other end let out a string of curses and yells. He slowly brought it back to his ears mustering small smile.
“Thank you Miss Shaila for understanding” Dylan said as he quickly hung up on the call and blacklisted the number. The security men at the door quickly opened the door of the car and Zane stepped inside while Dylan stepped in after him.
He glared at Zane as soon as he sat down while the latter wore an amused smile as he unbuttoned his suit jacket again.
“How’s the plans for Jackie coming along?” Zane asked and Dylan nodded.
“It is going fine. I have booked a lunch with him in the next two days” Dylan replied as Zane nodded his head.
“And Wilson Entertainment will finally be ready in two weeks” Dylan added as Zane frowned a little.
“Make it ready before two weeks” Zane said as Dylan nodded.
“Yes sir” Dylan said as he brought out his phone and started typing away. He wiped the beads of sweat forming at his forehead and watched as Zane put on the AC. Probably only him knew how hard it was to be Zane Wilson’s secretary.
“How’s your elder sister? Is she back from her trip?” Zane asked as he chuckled.
“I know it’s coming late but it skipped my mind” Zane added as Dylan wore a smile and shook her head.
“It’s okay sir. She’ll be back in New York by Friday” Dylan replied and Zane nodded as the car came to a stop.
“President Wilson, we are here” Dylan announced.
Harley rubbed her forehead as soon as she stepped back into her house and fell on the sofa. Her manager dropped her bag and hurried towards her and helped her remove her shoes while massaging them.
“Thanks a lot Joanne” Harley murmured as she laid back on the sofa and Joanne wore a small frown.
“I’ve told you to stop wearing this shoes if they make you feel so uncomfortable” Joanne said as Harley chuckled.
“Only those shoes went the outfit Mia picked for me” Harley replied and Joanne snorted.
“Whatever. Just don’t wear them again. See how your feet is all red” Joanne said and Harley glanced at her feet and like Joanne had said, her feet were really red.
“they hurt so much” Harley whined as Joanne chuckled and continued helping her massage it.
“I don’t have anything for the rest of the day right?” Harley asked as she turned to Joanne who shook her head.
“Nothing till around 10pm. You have dinner with President Andrew” Joanne said as Harley wore a small frown.
“President Andrew? What’s the dinner for?” Harley asked and Joanne shrugged.
“I don’t really know. He said he has important business to talk about with you” Joanne replied as Harley hissed lightly.
“You don’t want to go?” Joanne asked and Harley shrugged as she sat up on the bed.
“Not that. He just gives me the creeps” Harley confessed and Joanne touched her friend’s shoulder.
“I’ll be there. No need to worry” Joanne said and Harley smiled as she sent Joanne a flying kiss.
Not everyone was a lucky to have their best friend as their manager. When Harley had decided to go into the entertainment, Joanne had told her that she would be her manager. And that was when they were in high school, Harley hadn’t taken Joanne’s words to heart until Joanne told her that she was serious.
And for that decision that Joanne took, Harley was forever grateful to her. With Joanne who had known her since their pre-school days, communicating was very easy. She had someone to talk to when she had problems and someone who also easily understood her and fought for her. She was also there each time she needed help and comfort.
The entertainment world was a messy place and to survive one needed to be strong, confident and have the skills. Luckily for her, she had all and with a strong fan base, Harley had managed to keep her head up high all these years. Talking about fan bases, Harley glanced at the fresh flowers in front of her in vase.
“Lilies were sent today?” Harley asked as she walked towards the vase and admired the flowers in the vase as she breathed in their scent.
“Yeah” Joanne replied as Harley chuckled and sat down.
“Till when will this person continue to do this?” Harley asked with a smile and Joanne shrugged as she sprawled on the floor.’
“It’s been five years right?” Joanne asked and Harley nodded laughing.
Five years ago, Harley had woken up to see a vase of fresh flowers in front of her door. As a celebrity, she lived in one of the most expensive estates in New York and besides it was heavily guarded. For someone to have a vase of flowers personally delivered to her doorstep, the person must have some influence.
While Harley waited for the person to show up, the person never showed up and when they tried to check the CCTV, they found nothing. shockingly, the very next morning, another vase of flowers were in front of her door, tulips these times around.
Flabbergasted, she tried to find out who the person was but it was as if the flowers had appeared on her doorstep like magic. And yet again the very next morning, there was another vase of fresh flowers still dripping with early morning dew on her doorstep and that had been the routine for good five years.
At first they had thought that maybe the person was trying to woo her but the person never showed up. On her birthdays, big vases of roses and a wrapped gift was always delivered. Someone Harley was able to figure out that the person was her fan and was of course an influential person but she was never able to understand the logic behind it.
Somehow Harley looked forward to seeing the flowers every morning. All kinds of flowers had been dropped at her door step in the last five years, flowers she didn’t even know existed. What was more was that those flowers were always fresh and after careful examination, Harley found out that those flowers were always cut every morning. she turned back to the lilies on the table and smiled. Deep down, something told her she would soon meet the person who had been seeing her flowers.
