Chapter Thirty Four
Serena's Pov
“What the heck just happened?”
He ignored my greetings and left the elevator like I was some trash he needed to avoid. Oh my goodness.
I felt so embarrassed and wished I could just bury myself under the elevator floor. I was brought back to reality by the elevator's ding and the door opened. So, I walked out, and headed straight to my office.
“Son of a bitch.” I uttered under my breath with resentment.
I got to my door, clicked it open with my key and walked into my office. Even when I was a boss, I never for once acted badly to my employees unnecessarily. Although, every bad day I had concerning working under Adrien Volkov, I always resented Killian for it, but now, I resent Adrien himself.
I wish I never had anything to do with him. I wish I wasn't so gullible to think that I could have someone love me truly, again. If only I could turn back the hands of time, how happy would I be?
I sat down on my chair, and laid my head on the table for some time before I heard a knock on the door. I glanced in that direction and the door opened only to find out it was Ethan.
“Good morning.” He greeted me with a warm smile.
“Good morning,” I responded, sitting up properly.
“The CEO has asked to see you.” Ethan informed me with a slight smile and left my office.
Now, what does he want to see me for? To ridicule me more or for what? I slammed my palm on my face, and left it there for a moment, breathing in and out and also thinking about what reason he could have called me for.
“Let’s do this.” I said to myself and rose up to my feet.
I walked out of my office, and headed to Adrien's. Each step I took closer towards Adrien's office was heavy with so many thoughts of what he could have called me for.
On getting to the entrance of his office, I knocked once and opened the door, but as I opened it, I saw that same lady kissing his chest while romancing the stomach and felt like she was going to go to his lower parts soon.
“I'm sorry, I'll come back.” I apologized immediately and shut the door.
I so much wished that I could unsee what I saw. So, he actually called me to see the wonderful nonsense he was doing with whoever that lady was. Maybe she is his girlfriend or sort.
“Gosh! Why? Why does it have to be me? The wicked usually get away with bad things they do, and they rarely get the worst things in life. "But why do I, Serena, have to be the one going through all this after giving my all to one person?”
My heart was hurting and bleeding. I felt like a fool who only kept on entering traps that had been set for her.
“I know the best thing to do,” I said to myself, and walked to my office immediately.
On getting to my office, I put a call through to Bella.
“Hey, darling. What's up?”
“Nothing's good. I just want to let you know that I'm coming home soon.”
“What do you mean by that?” She asked in a baffled tone.
“I’m going to write a resignation letter as soon as I end this call with you,” I informed her, sitting on my chair and using my other hand to search for the writing materials that I would need.
“But why?”
“I just can't handle the shit Adrien Volkov is giving me. You won't believe he intentionally ignored my greetings this morning, and as if that wasn't enough, he instructed his P.A. to call me to his office. Getting to his office, I saw a particular lady romancing him. He intentionally called me, so I could witness that.”
“Oh, my. "I think I might have to support this decision. "Before Adrien Volkov ruins your mental health, it's best you leave.” Bella spoke, also sounding displeased.
“Thanks. I'll be home in the evening,” I informed her.
“Alright, bye.”
“Bye.”
I wrote my resignation letter and when I was done, I put it in an envelope, then pulled my drawers open and placed it there. I continued the work for the day without going back to Adrien's office, and thankfully, he himself didn't call my attention.
When it was evening, and it was time for me to leave work, I took out the brown envelope, held it tight without squeezing it. Fear wanted to take over because this was my chance to get back at Killian, but unfortunately, this chance might as well kill me before I could get what I wanted.
“Let’s do this.” I urged myself and picked up my things from the office, then walked up to my door.
I turned to give the office one more look before I opened the door and stepped out. I headed to Adrien's office, hoping that he would be there.
Getting to his office, I knocked and took a deep breath, then let it out.
“Let's hope we don't find another woman or the same woman getting down with him, this time.” I said under my breath, then opened the door and walked into his office.
He was going through some papers, and it looked like he still had a pile of work to do.
“So, I see this when it dims fit for you to come back since morning which I called to your attention, right? Miss Callaway, are you sure you're interested in making things better? "Remember, you're no longer a CEO.” He said to me unapologetically.
That was another dart to my heart, but it was more like a morale to go on with the decision I made.
“Concerning that, here is my resignation letter.” I informed him as I placed the envelope on his table and passed it to him. “I think I've had enough.”
“W…what! "Your resignation letter?” He repeated, looking really surprised.
“Yes. "Goodnight. I responded and turned to walk away.
While walking back towards his door, I suddenly felt an arm wrap around my waist and pulled me back to an alluring firm body I had once felt.
Adrien held me firmly, and he leaned his mouth to my ear.
“Don't go, please.”
