Chapter 4 a little secret
Anaya’s P.O.V.
“The number you dialed is not in service.” I spoke to my father in a cold and monotonous voice, just like those mechanical voices.
“It means that you are still alive.” My father remarked casually, and I scoffed.
“Disappointed?” I remarked sarcastically while sitting on the bed after putting on my clothes.
“Nah, glad. Because this is now the time that you fulfilled your obligations towards your family.” He paused, and my face became cold.
“Your pack.” He added after a pause of a few quick seconds.
“Obligations? To whom? And my pack? Are you sure you are not on drugs?” I still asked sarcastically while taking a bowl of soup from Nancy, giving her a grateful smile, but that smile erased immediately.
They both put a plate of sliced fruits beside me and signaled me to finish that with their fingers and eyes before leaving the room.
They also closed the door after exiting the room.
“What the fk is this question, Anaya? Did you forget where you belong?” He was angry, but I didn’t care at all.
“To where I belong? I am where I belong, Mr. White. What family? My whole family died when my mother took her last breath in my embrace, both of us covered in her blood. I became an orphan that very same day.”
I didn’t mean to raise my voice, but he chose the wrong time to call me.
My mental state was already fragile, and his provocation felt as if he broke a dam inside me.
“I am your father, Anaya, and I am still alive.” He roared, and I roared back with the same intensity.
“Why didn’t you die instead of her? Why are you still alive? Why?”
I was trembling in a fit of rage at the end of my roar.
I shouldn’t have lost my temper, but with everything going on in my life, this conversation was the last thing that I wanted to have with him.
“No matter what, I am still alive, and I am still your father. Get your a back home.” He ordered angrily, but my retort came before he could finish his statement.
“I am home, Mr. White. That is your home and your pack. Don’t call me again.” I hung up and switched off the phone immediately.
I knew how persistent he could be, and I didn’t want to be pestered by him anymore.
I threw the phone on the bed after switching it off.
I was gripping the bowl tightly. All those haunting memories of my mother’s death and what she endured before rushed down my memory lane like a tornado.
My head spun, but I closed my eyes and suppressed everything.
I must have done some seriously grave sins in my past life that I was not only deprived of love and care from anyone, but also I had to endure a monster like my father.
The door of my room opened slowly, and Nancy slowly popped her head inside.
“Are you okay?” she asked me worriedly, keeping her voice.
I smiled tightly and looked at the bowl in my hand. I took the spoon and scooped a spoonful of soup to drink.
She came inside and closed the door behind her.
“You need to get your physical strength back, Anaya. Your fight with this world hasn’t ended yet.” She spoke to me calmly.
I didn’t know exactly what she wanted to say to me, but I listened to her without saying a word, continuing to drink soup.
She started cleaning my room. The silence was comfortable and welcoming for me.
“I suggest you take a break of a month or two for work and go travelling.” She spoke to me again after some time.
I looked at her while knitting my brows, a bit confused but intrigued by what she said.
“I mean….. you are devastated and already have two mental breakdowns. You need something to distract your mind and heart so that they can heal themselves.”
She continued, and I just listened to her while finishing the soup.
“Traveling with strangers all around you is….. is kind of psychological therapy, you know.” She shrugged her shoulders while speaking as if she was trying to get the right word for what she wanted me to grasp.
A smile appeared on my lips.
Not bitter, not filled with heartbreak, but a warm smile.
“Go anywhere…. Beach, mountains, forest, desert…. Anywhere because nature is the best healer for all sort of heartbreaks.” She continued in the same casual tone, putting things in their places and dusting windowsills, tables, and others.
“You don’t need to pretend to be a strong person, Anaya, because at the end of the day, you will remain a human.” She gave me a knowing gaze this time.
“A…. and…. Please don’t mind my words here, but I read in the stories and whatever they have on the internet stating that wolves love to have long runs to calm their emotions down…. To…. To give their heart and soul to connect with nature whenever they feel hurt by any means.”
My fingers stopped right over my lips when I was about to put in a piece of apple.
Both Rose and Nancy knew that I am not a normal human, but they never brought this up in any of our conversations.
So, yes...
She took me off guard by mentioning this.
“I know th…. That you are not a wolf, but you still have his genes.” I just listened to her words, and that serious expression on her face didn’t let me blink.
Yes….
I am not a normal human woman.
I am born from a human and a werewolf….
Alpha on the top of that….
They said that I inherited my mother’s genes. That’s why, I am a human by birth but not a werewolf.
I didn’t have a problem with that. I am happy with being a human.
I remembered running with pups of my age in the wild before I left the pack.
It’s not like everyone hated me there.
A few of them, like Beta’s son, Jacob Nester, were good friends with me, and he with his team of future rankers, ran together with me.
It was strange that I always beat them in a run. I left the pack before any of them got their wolves.
I was the fastest and most ruthless fighter despite being a human.
I missed that time with them because those were the only happy times during my stay in the pack after my mother’s death until I left that place.
Suddenly the room burst open, and Rose barged in with a horrified look on her face, almost stumbling forward, startling both me and Nancy.
“J…. Jacob… so.. someone named Jacob is here wi… with five burly men.” She told me while stuttering hard in panic.
I immediately stood up, my eyes widened in shock.
"What did you say?" I asked her while marching towards the door.
"He told me his name is Jacob," she yelled behind me, but I didn't stop.
How dare he?
How dare my father send Jacob here?
