Chapter 119: Carnage
Carter All ten thousand warriors along with myself had been running for a little over an hour before we encountered our first rouge. Zayden had been the first to spot him and wasted no time in ensuring that no one would know that we were coming. The closer we got to the area that Samith told us they had been keeping Elinn we ran into more and more rogue wolves. Those of us leading the charge took great satisfaction in killing them and wasted no time in getting back to finding my mate. I knew that we were getting close and my wolf was howling at me to move faster to run harder. We were both anxious to see our mate once again though I was terrified about what condition it was that we might find her in. As we ran I began to notice something was wrong, I wasn't sure what it was but my wolf was getting very antsy and couldn't sit still. I pushed on figuring that it was just the fact that he was going to have to face whatever condition Elinn was in which probably wouldn't be an ideal one. While the thought made him upset it wasn't the same feeling and I couldn't figure out what was wrong. We kept running finding more and more rogues surrounding us and I knew that this had to mean Elinn was close by. Rogues didn't travel in packs that's why they were rogues, the only reason there would be so many in one spot would be because they were protecting something. My mate was close and this time I wasn't going to let anything stop me from taking her back home. I watched as the men around me took down wolf after wolf never seeming to tire or faulter causing me to have to hold back a howl of approval. I knew that this wasn't a time for carless noises that could cause those around me more pain than was necessary at the moment. I knew that they understood though and I would make sure to thank them all, every last one of them….later. More and more rogues began to run into us, and I began to become suspicious. They didn't seem to be coming at us looking for a fight but rather running from something. Wolves began to show up with injuries before they even got close enough for us to touch them. Most tried to run away from us but a few went straight to the warriors as if asking for a quick and speedy death. "Carter…." My father's voice rang through my head and I knew that he was thinking the same things that I was. "I don't know what's going on but we need to hurry. If something is after them than it may be after Elinn as well and if she disappears again, we have to get their first." I was starting to get very nervous about what was going on around us. Whatever was attacking these wolves had some serious skill and didn't appear to be stopping as we ran into dozens and dozens of injured wolves. The warriors began to separate some coming with us others rounding up rogues. The ones who were making a point of trying to attack us while the others were herded into open areas to be watched until we could decide what to do with them. Mass genocide was not something that I planned on happening even if it was a bunch of rogue wolves. Soon it was only the Alpha's, Ecstan, around four hundred warriors and myself still running. I could see the tops of a large building and began to quicken my pace even though I had thought I was going as fast as I possibly could. The others did their best to keep up but I began to soar past them and the only one able to keep up was Ecstan. The two of us sprinted for the large mansion that loomed in front of us skidding to a stop when we saw what lay ahead of us. Wolves were strewn across the large front yards in various stages of injury. Some were cradling broken legs, others lay on their sides trying to lick the horrible wounds on their sides, bits of flesh covered the areas in between bodies. The stench of blood, fear, pain, and death permeated the area around us and I could feel my stomach tightening with the need to vomit. I glanced over at Ecstan but he seemed unaffected by what he saw, he sat waiting for me to pull myself together. I knew that he wanted to leave me and rush in to save his daughter by himself, but with so many unpredictable rogues around he couldn't. So I got back on my feet and made my way through the mass of bodies towards the front door. I knew that when the others caught up with us they would start working on the mess in the front yard, but we had to make sure what we came here for was indeed still here. The inside of the once beautiful mansion was a disaster, paintings were smashed, the carpets were torn from so many claws making their way across it, blood covered the floors and walls. The building echoed with sounds of human screams, wolf like howls, and the odd sound of a someone laughing. Strangely as the laughter continued Ecstan relaxed slightly while the sound had my muscles tensing up ready to fight whatever was making that noise. It sounded like a woman's laughter, but it wasn't right somehow, like it wasn't all the way human. I wanted to carefully stalk our way towards whatever it was causing the screams and laughter but before I could say anything Ecstan was already moving. He leisurely strolled down the long hallways as if he already knew what to expect when we found it and I was beginning to think that he indeed did know. As soon as he had seen this house he acted as if he knew what we were walking into. He knew something that I didn't yet at this moment I thought it best not to challenge him on the subject. We turned a corner and I watched a man's neck snap and his face turn to me. As his body fell to the ground I couldn't help but follow the collapse of his body. All around me the floor was covered in dead bodies and I tried to figure out who could have done something like this. My eyes were drawn to the person who had caused all of this chaos. The woman standing in front of me seemed so familiar and I had no clue where she had come from. Who was she and how come she looked like my mate, but she couldn't be Elinn, last time I checked Elinn hadn't had a crown of flames on her head or black wings sprouting from her back. "About time you all showed up, the princess just rescued her own damn ass, thanks for your help." The thing in her body said and turned killing a rogue that had been trying to sneak up on her
