Chapter 36 Nervous

Wes' POV

I couldn't help it. *I've been antsy since I dropped Jamie off.* I don't know what it is, but I've been sitting here with David and John for the last 45 minutes, and I know something is wrong*. No, I'm not trying to get outta my assignment!* I seriously think something is off. Jamie hasn't called me or anything, it's more like a strong forboding feeling deep in my gut that says *I need to get the hell outta here!*

"Guys, I'm sorry. I gotta go. Email me the rest of the stuff I need to finish and I'll have it back to you this evening," I promised. *There is no way in hell I can sit still any longer!* I need to get the hell outta here right this moment!

"What the hell, man?" Demands John, looking up from his notes we've been going over.

"Sorry, dude, but I can't even focus. *I need to go,*" I say grabbing my bag and throwing it over my shoulder. *I can't explain this feeling of dread I've been feeling*. I really don't have the time to explain to these morons that I have a bad feeling. I don't want to argue with them when it will just be a waste of my already slipping time. I feel like there is a clock somewhere and it is quickly winding down, *and I don't want to know what happens when it ticks its last beat.*

I don't listen as they both yell at me to get my ass back and help them out. Normally I would, *but I can't help it.* I need to go see Jamie and make sure she's okay. How am I supposed to tell them I'm ditching them just to check on my girlfriend, who, by the way, *should be perfectly safe in her lab right now?*

I don't stop as I jog my way to the science building. I pass students trying to get my attention or yelling at me to slow down, but I don't pay attention to any of them.

My heart is pounding in my chest with anxiety. There is only one thing that will ease this feeling for foreboding causing my stomach to cramp. *She's fine!* She has to be... *It's just me being needy and an idiot that has me racing half way across campus to see my girl.* She's in class, for crying out loud! How the hell am I even supposed to get in to see her?

As I make my way around the corner I freeze when I see blood. The knot in my gut tightens and seems to lodge itself in my throat. *Why is there blood?* *There should not be any blood right there!*

Not only that, but I see Jamie's backpack. *Why is it here? She needs it for her lab!*

My mind starts racing with my heart. *I don't understand what I'm seeing right now!* Did Jamie ditch her pack on purpose? That doesn't even make any sense! *Why am I turning into a moron?*

I grab it and look around and no one seems to have noticed it. I wouldn't have thought of it much either if it hadn't for the fact that I know it's Jamie's, and there is blood dripping from it onto the ground *right where I'd been kissing my girlfriend.* But the pack was shoved behind a bush. Did she put it there for some reason?

It doesn't mean anything! *She's fine!* Maybe she was distracted while we were kissing and just forgot about it... And pricked her finger...And left it here to go get a band-aid? But that is a lot of blood for a finger prick. Did she cut her arm on the building perhaps? Only one way to find out. *I swear my IQ is dropping by the second the longer I look at the blood covering the bag!*

I rush around the building with her pack in my arms and peek in through the window, but I don't see Jamie. *Where the hell is she?* Did she leave trying to remember where she lost her backpack? Did she get a first aid kit to help with her cut first? But wouldn't she be back by now?! *How badly was she hurt?*

I try not to panic. *Maybe she's just in the bathroom or something?* That is the only idea that will keep me sane right now because I am about to go ballistic if I can't find my girlfriend to settle my nerves in *ten seconds!* I need her to tell me *I'm being stupid* and she is *safe* and *not hurt somewhere that I can't find her!*

My mind is rambling now. I think I'm about to lose it!

I don't even have an excuse as I push open the door and look over the stunned students*. Yeah, I look like a crazy person,* but I need to make sure my girlfriend is okay! I need to look into her eye and she needs to say *"Wes, I'm fine!"* and then I will believe her *and then wait right outside her class room for her to finish.*.. Then I will take her home and make love to her.

I turn my attention to the confused looking professor. "I'm sorry for the interruption, Professor Rasmussen, but can I speak with Jamie Monroe please?" I ask as politely as I can, still praying she is just hiding somewhere in here.

The Professor gives me an odd look. "I'm sorry, mister Adams, but she never made it to class today," he says sternly.

"She never made it? *But I dropped her off!"* I insist. Then I look down at the pack in my hands and show it to the Professor looking at me like I'm crazy for breaking into his room. "I have her backpack... She left it outside..." I finished lamely.

I can feel the blood draining from my face as I watch the increasingly bewildered look grow on the face of the older man, shaking his head in denial.

"I'm sorry, but she isn't here," he says with a huff, waving his hand at his students still giving me confused looks.

*I knew it! Something was wrong. Okay, now it's time to panic!..*. Just not in the classroom. I need to get out of here and find someone who can actually help me.

"Sorry again for the interruption, " I say hollowly, backing out of the class room and grabbing my phone with my free hand. *I'm not letting her bag go until I see her again!*
