Chapter 34

“Good, so we can do this in a few hours, you will stay here,” he said opening a door to a room. “After that, I will arrange a getaway, but like I said you will have to keep going otherwise Quinn will find you.”

“Okay,” she said walking into the room with Evan.

“I will be back in a little while with another Elder to help me, after that, I will have to summon Quinn and Nick to be witnesses, unfortunately.”

“They have to be here to see it?” she said with a frown.

“Yeah, I am sorry.”

“But it was only Drake and a few of his men when he did it.”

“I know, but this is a trial,” he said with a sad face. “The fact that Quinn is trying to break the rules by forcing my hand in this, I am going to break the rules and do this ritual before the year and a half is up.”

“I see.”

“See you soon, we will do this in the chambers that way there is room and space,” he said before leaving her in the room.

Ivy sat down on the bed, laying Evan down. She wasn’t sure how everything was going to work out. She was scared things weren’t going to be fine and people were going to die, and she was going to lose Evan.

A little while later a knock at the door Ivy opened the door Isaiah was there with a woman. “Hey, Ivy. This is my wife, Ava. I thought more about what you said about placing your son with a non-dweller family. If that is what you want, we can help, but we have to hurry because Quinn is here and so is everyone else.”

“How do I know this isn’t a trick?” Ivy said looking back at her son.

“Please trust me. I know your parents wanted to protect you and they were killed because they didn’t listen to me. Please. Trust me. We have a family that are not dwellers. They will protect him and raise him as a human. He will never know of you or dwellers.”

“I-uh-I,” she said taking in some air.

“Please. I promise he will be loved,” Ava said, taking a step towards Ivy. “Your parents would be proud of you for doing this. They wanted you to be raised as a human but couldn’t make this decision that you can.”

“Alright,” Ivy said taking a step back.

She was scared to trust them, but she had a feeling they were going to be true to their word. She had to trust them; she didn’t want him raised as a dweller. She hoped they would raise him to be a strong man. Someone that would love the world as a human, and not be forced into it like she was.

“Please ensure they take care and love him as I have,” she said picking him up, and kissing him before she forced herself to hand him to Ava. Tears formed in her eyes before she was able to allow her arms to release him. “Goodbye, my baby boy. I love you,” she said trying to stay strong.

She watched Ava disappear around a corner before tears streamed down her face.

“Come on, we have to get back to the Council chambers, they are waiting for us,” Isaiah said hugging her. “You are brave to do that Ivy. He will be loved I promise,” he said hugging her tight.

“That was a lot harder to do than you know,” Ivy said wiping the tears from her eyes. “I guess we better get going before they come looking for us,” she said looking at him. “I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be, I told them it might be a few minutes because I would have to explain to you what this means, but you already know what happens,” he said as they walk down the hall. “This is going to be messy. Quinn isn’t going to like that you don’t have your son and that you are going through the ritual, but we are hoping he isn’t going to cause issues.”

“What if he causes issues?”

“Well, then it will be a fight,” he said with a sad face.

“I don’t want anyone getting hurt, why don’t you just let me go with him,” she said with a sad face.

“We cannot allow that, you are in danger going back with him now that you don’t have your son, he will hurt you.”

“At least it will only be me.”

“No, he will come back and start a war here, and many people will probably get hurt, so don’t count that out,” he said pushing the door open, everyone stops talking. “We’re here, sorry.”

Quinn saw that Ivy didn’t have her son. “Where is our son?” he snapped.

“He is somewhere safe,” Ivy said.

“I want my son brought to this meeting, so when Ivy is released into my custody so is he.”

“Too bad, you’re not getting anywhere near him, he has been taken somewhere you will never find him,” Ivy growled.

“Is that a fact?” Quinn said getting to his feet, anger in his eyes. “I guess I will just take you and make another one, we will be leaving here,” he said stalking towards her.

“You’re not leaving quite yet,” Isaiah said getting in front of Ivy. “She needs to go through the White Dweller ritual.”

“She still has a month to spend with me,” Quinn snapped.

“You broke the rules, so I am breaking some,” Isaiah spoke up.

“No!” Quinn growled. “I bound her to me because I didn’t want her leaving because of the baby. She was going to run back to the white dwellers, and I didn’t want that to happen. She doesn’t belong with them.”

“You were being selfish!” Ivy growled. “My whole time with you has been crappy. I hate you!”

“You took the one thing away from me, Ivy, and now I’m taking the only thing they care about away from them!” he growled. He lunged at Ivy, grabbing her around the throat. “You see, I know what you are,” he growled.

“What?” Ivy whined trying to breathe.

“Dead!” he said, summoning a dagger and thrusting it into her stomach. He dropped her to the floor before disappearing. Ivy’s world grew foggy. Soon it became dark, and she died.
