Chapter 45: Unraveling the truth

Chapter 45:

Meanwhile as Dr Martin walked back to his cell, he couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction, he had actually managed to reveal part of the truth to Detective James, and he knew it would be only be a matter of time before the detective came crawling back seeking for answers

But as he entered his cell, he was greeted by an unexpected cell mate,A young man, with a look of anger and hatred in his eyes, was standing in the corner of the cell.

" Who are you?" Dr Martin asked , trying to. keep his composure.

" Jake walked passed him, " My name is Jake " he replied , his voice low and menacing, " And you are the man who killed my Father ".

Dr Martin's eyes widened in horror, He had never expected to meet one of his victim's family members, especially not in prison.

" I don't know what you are talking about", Dr Martin said , trying to feign innocence.

But Jake just laughed," Don't play dumb with me , Dr Martin", he said , " I know all about your little games, you killed my father, and I am paying price of a crime I did not commit .

Dr Martin's face twisted with anger , " You don't know anything", he spat , You are just a foolish little boy, seeking for revenge for something you don't even understand"

Jake's eyes flashed with anger, and for a moment, Dr Martin thought he was going to attack him, But then , Jake seemed to calm down, and a cold , calculating smile spread across his face .

" I understand more than you think , Dr Martin", Jake said. " And I'm not going to let you get away with what you did , you are going to pay for killing my father, one way or another".

Dr Martin's eyes narrowed, He didn't like the sound of this , Jake seemed like a formidable opponent, and Dr Martin knew he had to be careful.

But as he looked into Jake's eyes , he say something there that gave him pause , It was a deep - seated hatred , a desire for revenge that went far beyond anything Dr Martin had ever seen before.

And in that moment, Dr Martin knew he was in trouble, Jake was not just a victim's family member seeking revenge, he was something much more sinister.

As days passed, Dr Martin found himself facing a new challenge, Jake was everywhere, watching him, waiting for him to slip up , And Dr Martin knew that if he wasn't careful, Jake would be the one to finally bring him down.

But Dr Martin was not one to back down from a challenge, he had always been a master of his job, a psychologist , and he knew that with the right tactics he could turn Jake into a useful ally.

And so, Dr Martin began to play a new game, he started to manipulate Jake , using his charm and wit to turn the him into a pawn In his game .

But as the game unfolded , Dr Martin couldn't shake off the feeling that he was playing with fire , Jake was a wild card , unpredictable and volatile , and Dr Martin knew that if he wasn't careful, Jake would be the one to truly bring him down.

As days turned into weeks , Dr Martin's game with Jake intensified, Dr Martin would feed Jake small pieces of information, just enough to keep him interested and invested in their twisted game, and keep him off his back .

But despite his best efforts, Dr Martin couldn't shake off the feelings that Jake was getting closer to the truth and was not backing out from his original interest , Jake's questions were becoming more probing , more insightful, and Dr Martin knew that it was only a matter of time before Jake could discovered his true intensions.

It was quite early in the morning, Dr Martin was walking back to his cell, after talking to his lawyer , Jake fell into step beside him, " I have been thinking ", Jake said ,his voice low and menacing, " I think you are hiding something from me,Dr Martin, something big".

Dr Martin's heart skipped a beat as he tried to maintain his composure " I don't know what you are talking about about , Jake " he said ,trying to sound nonchalant.

But Jake just laughed , " Don't play dumb with me , Dr Martin" he said" I know you are hiding something, and I'm going to find out what it is".

Dr Martin's eyes narrowed as he tried to think of a way to throw Jake off his scent , But before he could come up with a plan , Jake spoke again .

" I have been talking to some of the other inmates , Dr Martin" Jake said , And I think I have found a way to get to the truth of what you are hiding from me . " but just know I will find out."

." Dr Martin's heart sank as he realized that Jake had been digging deeper , he knew he had to act fast , or risk losing control of the situation.

" What are you talking about, Jake ?" Dr Martin asked , trying to keep his voice steady.

Jake smiled , " You will find out soon enough , Dr Martin" , he said " Just remember, I am always one step ahead of you ".

And with that , Jake turned and walked away, leaving Dr Martin feeling uneasy and unsure of what was to come.

Meanwhile , Detective James was still trying to process the information that Dr Martin had revealed to him, he couldn't shake off that feeling that Dr Martin was still hiding something and he was determined to find out what it was.

As he sat at his desk, staring at the file on Dr. Martin's case, Detective James couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. He knew that he was getting close to the truth, but he also knew that Dr. Martin was a master manipulator.

And then, just as he was about to give up for the day, Detective James received a call from an unknown number.

"Detective James," a voice said. "I have information about Dr. Martin's case. Meet me at the restaurant close to your office,if you want to know the truth."

Detective James's heart skipped a beat as he wondered who could be calling him. , He knew Mark was still in the jail, or could it be someone else entirely?

He looked at his watch and saw that he had just enough time to make it to the meeting, he grabbed his gun and headed out to the door , ready to face whatever lay ahead.
