Chapter 96
I noticed one of the waiters disreetly taking photos with his phones Blake led me to the center of the floor. My fingers rested lightly on Blake’s broad shoulders, and I immediately stepped on his foot.
“Sorry,” I mumbled, flustered.
“Relax,” he said softly. “Follow my lead.”
Gradually, I found the thythm, letting Blake guide me across the floor. As we turned slowly with the revolving restaurant, the city lights spreading out below us, I wished I could freeze this moment forever.
No betrayal, no accusations, no loss. I was still in love with my husband, even if he only saw me as his wife–part of his duty.
“That was lovely,” I said as we finished our dessert, the evening coming to a close.
“I need to use the restroom. Wait for me here,” Blake said, kissing my temple before walking away.
The moment he was out of sight, I approached the waiter who’d been taking photos.
“Excuse me,” I said with a friendly smile. “My husband is very private, but those photos you took are beautiful. Could I have copies as a keepsake?”
The young man looked startled. “1–I’m sorry, Mrs. Wright. I shouldn’t have-”
“It’s fine..Just please delete the originals after sending them to me.”
I slipped him a hundred–dollar tip to him, then quickly posted one photo to my social media with privacy settings that ensured only Claire would see it.
Grabbing Blake’s jacket, I headed to the entrance to wait for our car.
I was standing outside when I felt something cold splash against my legs. Ice cubes scattered across the pavement as a plastic cup shattered at my feet. Coffee soaked my Louboutins and splashed up my calves.
“That’s her! That’s the woman who made Claire Wright injure her right leg and miss her chance as the lead dancer!” A young man stood a few feet away, rage distorting his features.
I didn’t flinch. As a somewhat famous ballet dancer, Claire had her own fan base. I’d known this day would come ever since Claire’s
“accident.”
The man raised another coffee. “You nearly wrecked her career!”
I quickly tucked Blake’s custom jacket behind me to protect it as the man prepared to throw his second cup. Just as he launched it, Blake appeared, stepping in front of me. Coffee splashed across his white shirt.
The fan froze when he recognized Blake, then hurled a few more curses before rushing away.
“Your coat isn’t stained,” I said quickly. “I kept it behind me.”
“Anna!” Blake’s face darkened with anger. “Are you stupid? Who cares about the damn coat? Why didn’t you protect yourself? What if
I hadn’t come out when I did? Why weren’t you waiting in the car?”
He wrapped his jacket around my waist and lifted me into his arms, carrying me toward the waiting car.

Chapter 90
I stared up at him, my heart funding strangely at this show of concern. After getting used to his gentleness tonight, I found myself unprepared for his anger. A bittersweet ache spread through my chest.
‘Don’t be so good to me, Blake.”
I wanted time to stop, but that was impossible. Blake had said he’d dropped all his defenses with me, that he wanted to put our past conflicts behind us.
But could I really let go? I was the one who’d been betrayed, who’d lost my mother, who’d been falsely accused and hurt in body and soul. Even now, Blake had never once apologized for any of it.
No, forgiveness is impossible if the offender doesn’t
Blake, don’t be so good to me. It’s too late.‘
