Gio is incredibly attractive and striking, with his piercing, dark eyes that can make you lose yourself when he looks at you. He's tall, well-built, and strong. He's also mysterious, which I think adds to his appeal for others. And did I ever mention that he has an armband tattoo? I noticed it when he rolled up his sleeves, but I never had the chance to examine the tattoo because I always felt unfocused whenever he was around.
"Is he there right now?"
"No, he's at the office. He's a CEO. He's always busy and doesn't have much time for his personal life." I sounded like a disappointed wife, but I don't know, maybe I've become too comfortable when Gio is around, even though my comfort came with a hint of fear.
"Oh, tell me about your honeymoon now! I want all the details!" And she made a giggling sound on the other end.
"Stop it!" It reminded me of our first night with Gio. Well, it was passionate. He was gentle yet with a hint of roughness. Maybe he was being cautious because he knew it was my first time. "The problem was, he left me the next morning."
He insisted it was for my safety, but... well, it still bothers me.
"What?!" Nina was torn between laughing and anger after hearing what happened. "Wait, should I be laughing?"
"Just laugh," I told my friend.
"He left you after your first night together? What kind of husband does that?"
I couldn't answer that question, not even to Nina. Even I was still questioning it. Despite Gio having an alibi, the lack of details he provided continues to haunt my thoughts.
"Maybe he won't physically hurt you, but he might hurt you emotionally. Emotional and mental abuse can be just as severe as physical abuse, girl."
She hit a nerve with that comment. It was like an invisible slap to my face when her words sank in.
"But maybe I'm wrong. I haven't met him, so I shouldn't jump to conclusions just yet," she sighed deeply. "Let's meet soon, okay? Always remember, if you need anything, Rae and I are here for you. I'm just one call away, Millie. Don't think you'd ever be a bother to us. Bye for now. See you soonest. Love you!"
I thanked her and said my goodbyes. I hung up and sat on the edge of the bed.
"Ma'am Millie?"
The silence in the room shattered as someone knocked on the door. I got up to answer it and saw Mariana.
"Ma'am, I'm just here to let you know that you have an appointment with Doctor Diaz at 2 pm today."
Appointment? Why do I have an appointment? I couldn't recall needing to see a doctor.
"Mr. Gio Locatelli was the one who scheduled you with an OB-GYN today."
"OB-GYN?" I had to repeat it, thinking I might have misheard. "Why do I need to see an OB-GYN?" Gio wanted this? For what?
"Yes, Ma'am. I don't have the details, but I believe the doctor will explain everything when you meet. Both Sir and the doctor will discuss it."
I stopped questioning Mariana since it seemed she didn't know more details and was just following orders to inform me about the appointment.
Hours passed, and I left the house after lunch to go to the hospital for my appointment. Dario accompanied me, guiding me to the clinic. When we arrived, they knocked on the door, and I was promptly ushered in after stating my identity.
"Good afternoon, Mrs. Millie Locatelli. It's nice to meet you," Doctor Josephine Diaz said as she gestured for me to sit in the chair in front of her desk.
I smiled at the doctor, still clueless about why Gio had scheduled this.
"I'm sorry, Doc, I actually have no idea why I'm here."
"Don't worry. I just need to run some tests to ensure your health, Mrs. Locatelli, and to determine what contraceptive pills to prescribe for you."
I felt like I'd been deafened by her last statement. Did I hear that correctly? Did she just say she was going to prescribe contraceptive pills for me?
"I'm sorry? Pardon me, I didn't quite catch your last words. What did you say about pills? Did you say you're going to give me contraceptive pills?"
"Yes, Mrs. Locatelli. That's what your husband mentioned. Didn't he talk to you about this?"
I couldn't respond. The thought kept echoing in my mind. Why did he want me to take contraceptive pills?
I lost track of time during that visit to the doctor's office. I allowed the doctor to run some tests on me. She assured me there were no issues, and she provided me with the name of the pills that would suit me.
I glanced at the prescription as I left her clinic. I didn't even thank the doctor; I just left abruptly.
I handed the doctor's prescription to Dario. I knew I would be getting my pills from the Locatelli-owned pharmacy.
I still couldn't gather my thoughts on the way home. It's not that I was eager to have children, but... I was considering it. Because I'm married now, and someday, I want to have my own kids, the kind that I would love, and Gio would love too.
Could it be that Gio was thinking the same thing? It's possible. Maybe he thought that because I didn't want this marriage, I also didn't want to have children with him. I remembered the first night we were intimate; he used a condom.
"What time will Gio be home?" I asked Mariana, hoping she might have an idea.
"I'm not sure, Ma'am. He told Dario earlier that he might come home a bit earlier today compared to yesterday."
I just nodded at her response. I told Mariana that I wanted to be alone, so she left me in my room.
Mariana was right. Gio came home earlier today. Perhaps, unlike yesterday, he didn't have much to do in the office.
He raised an eyebrow when he saw me, and his cold eyes met mine. I expected him to speak, but he remained silent.
Gio entered the walk-in closet and emerged after changing.
"I attended a doctor's appointment earlier... just like what you want."
Gio looked at me, his cold eyes greeting me. I expected him to say something, but he remained silent.
He went into the walk-in closet and came out after changing.
"She gave me a prescription for contraceptive pills. She said that's what you instructed her to do. Why?"
I was searching for the right words to express how I felt. As much as possible, I held back my emotions, even though I had a heavy heart. I still didn't want to provoke Gio. You never know what he might do to you.
"That is correct," he replied to me.
I chuckled to myself. Was that all? He couldn't even explain why?
