Chapter 371: I Made the Mistake That All Men Make

Caspian drove and dropped Harriet off at the entrance of Apex Global Group.

"Harriet, you go up first. I'll go park the car."

"Okay."

Harriet got out of the car and went upstairs by herself.

When the secretary saw her, she quickly stood up. "Mrs. Lancaster, what brings you here?"

"Is Tristan done with his meeting?"

"Mr. Lancaster has many meetings today. He's still in one."

"Then I'll go in and wait for him."

The secretary looked troubled. "Mrs. Lancaster, maybe you should go home first."

Harriet looked at the tightly closed office door. "What, I can't go in?"

The secretary's expression changed. "Mrs. Lancaster, this..."

As the atmosphere grew tense, the office door suddenly opened.

Tamsin appeared wearing a light-colored camisole nightgown, leaning against the doorway and yawning. "Oh, it's Harriet... What are you doing here?"

Harriet froze.

They say hearing something is one thing, but seeing it with your own eyes is another.

Hearing about it from Ryder versus actually seeing Tamsin here in person - the shock was completely different.

Right now, she just felt her chest tighten and her breathing become difficult.

"Are you here looking for Getty?" Tamsin looked at Harriet with disdain and laughed lightly. "Didn't I tell you? Getty is in a meeting and doesn't have time to see you..."

Harriet turned her head and looked at the secretary again. "Tell Tristan I'll wait right here until he has time to see me."

She didn't enter Tristan's office. Instead, she walked directly to the lounge area nearby, from where she could see the CEO's office door through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Tamsin shuffled after her in slippers. "Harriet, I already told you Getty doesn't have time to see you. Why are you being so clingy?"

"Clingy?" Harriet sat on the sofa and looked up at her. "If I remember correctly, Tristan is my legal husband, right? Ms. Turner shows up at my husband's office dressed like this, and you have the nerve to call me clingy?"

Tamsin crossed her arms and spoke calmly. "Harriet, you're legally married, that's true, but haven't you heard? The one who isn't loved is the real third party."

"Third party..." Harriet laughed coldly. "So you're admitting you're the third party... So... you two have slept together?"

"Harriet, did your amnesia mess up your brain? Do you really need to ask that question?" Tamsin looked sweetly shy. "These past few days have been the happiest time of my life. Getty can't get enough of me. We've made love over and over again... He personally promised me he'd divorce you and marry me."

Harriet felt like she was in an ice cellar.

It was clearly summer, but it felt like bone-chilling cold was spreading from her heart through her entire body, about to freeze her solid.

Seeing Harriet's pale face, Tamsin felt even more pleased.

Although everything she said was a lie, just seeing Harriet suffer made her feel great!

"Harriet, I suggest you get lost now. Go home and wait for the divorce papers. Don't stay here and annoy me."

Harriet fought back her tears.

She couldn't cry! She couldn't cry in front of Tamsin!

Tears were worthless - they only showed her weakness and nothing else!

Harriet took a deep breath and smiled slightly. "Divorce is between Tristan and me. It has nothing to do with you. How dare you tell me to get lost? Do you believe I could have you thrown out right now?"

"You wouldn't dare!" Tamsin showed no fear.

"Why wouldn't I dare?" Harriet laughed coldly. "As the lady boss of Apex Global Group, throwing out a third party is perfectly reasonable."

Tamsin glared at her. "If you touch me, Getty won't let you get away with it!"

Harriet smiled. "Tristan would come after me for a third party? All I can say is, he'd have to be crazy. Even if he does protect you, I'd like to see how he plans to deal with me. Don't forget, I'm not just Mrs. Lancaster - I'm also a young lady of the Romanov family. I have the Romanov family behind me, I have Caspian backing me up. And what do you have?"

Tamsin suddenly panicked.

Helping Tristan with his act and making Harriet miserable had been satisfying.

But what if the Romanov family came after her because of Harriet? Wouldn't she be completely doomed?

Harriet's gaze dropped to scan the nightgown she was wearing. "I'm giving you two minutes to take off my nightgown. Otherwise, I'll have someone strip you naked and throw you out of here."

Seeing her cold, piercing eyes, Tamsin was startled and quickly turned to run toward the CEO's office.

Before she could open the door, she saw Tristan walking out of the elevator. Instantly feeling emboldened, she rushed forward and whined, "Getty, you're finally back! Harriet has gone crazy - she wants to have me stripped naked and thrown out!"

Tristan turned his head to look at Harriet sitting in the lounge area, then said to Tamsin in a low voice, "Go inside first."

"Okay, I'll wait for you inside. Hurry up."

Tamsin swayed her hips as she entered the CEO's office.

Tristan walked to the lounge area and looked at the angry Harriet, speaking calmly. "Harriet, what are you doing here?"

"What, I can't come?" Harriet looked up at his handsome face, trying to figure out something from his eyes. "Or did I interrupt something?"

"Harriet, I'm very sorry." Tristan said in a low voice. "I made a mistake that all men make."

Harriet slowly stood up and walked two steps toward him.

She slapped Tristan hard across the face.

"A mistake all men make?" The pain in her palm seemed to spread through every nerve in Harriet's body, making even her breathing tremble with pain. "Tristan, so you don't think you did anything wrong?"

"I didn't say that, which is why I'm apologizing." Tristan turned to look at her. "I'm sorry."

"You think one 'sorry' can erase how disgusting you've made me feel?" Harriet trembled with anger. "Or can you just not control yourself?"

Tristan's expression darkened slightly. "Harriet, there's no need to talk like that."

Harriet found it laughable. "You do something so disgusting, and you have the nerve to complain about how I talk?"

"Harriet, since you're talking like this, let me be blunt." Tristan's eyes showed displeasure. "We've always had problems. If it weren't for you, would Griffin have targeted me? Would I have gone through all those hardships, fallen off a cliff, nearly died, and met Tamsin?"

Harriet stared at him steadily.

"After I returned to Emberfall, we were always separated. Later, when I recovered my memory and remembered you, you had lost yours. I can't even remember how long it's been since we were together." Tristan sighed lightly. "Harriet, I'm a normal man. I have sexual desires. If you want to chalk this up to me not having enough self-control, then I have nothing to say."

Harriet couldn't believe it. "Tristan, how can you be this shameless?"

"Shameless?" Tristan smiled. "That's still better than how the Romanov family shifts blame. You weren't feeling well, and Caspian blamed it all on me. Tell me, did I even touch you? What does your discomfort have to do with me?"

Harriet was so angry she laughed. "Even if Caspian said the wrong thing, is that your excuse for cheating!"

"Harriet, what Caspian said was just the trigger." Tristan looked impatient. "Forget it, it's already happened. There's no point arguing about it anymore. I have nothing to say about this. If you want to hit me or yell at me, go ahead."

Harriet closed her eyes in pain. "Tristan, you're really something. You know you're in the wrong, so you just act like this."

When she opened her eyes again, they had regained their calm. "You win, because you have no principles and no bottom line."

"Harriet." Tristan looked at her, his handsome face so calm it showed no emotion. "Let's get divorced."

Harriet wasn't surprised at all. "Tamsin just told me you're eager to give her status, but I didn't expect you'd be this impatient."

Tristan's hands in his pockets slowly clenched into fists. He spoke in a low voice, "As long as you agree to divorce, you can name your terms."

Harriet laughed coldly. "To be with Tamsin, you're willing to give up everything, right?"

"Yes."

Harriet fought back tears and tried to control her trembling voice. "Tristan, I don't know how Harriet without amnesia would react right now, but I can tell you - Harriet with amnesia doesn't love you that much!"

Harriet took a deep breath. "Harriet loved you deeply, but I only kind of liked you. You cheating on me isn't enough to destroy me."

Tristan nodded. "That's for the best. I'll have the divorce papers prepared as soon as possible."

Harriet smiled. "Who said I agreed to divorce?"

Tristan frowned. "What do you mean?"

"Tristan, I really only kind of like you. I'm not in love with you yet." Harriet's eyes grew cold. "But who told you I'm someone who can be bullied? You cheated during our marriage, completely disrespected me, slept with someone like Tamsin to disgust me - why should I do what you want and give up my position to Tamsin?"

Tristan's frown deepened. "Harriet, you've always been someone who can't stand emotional betrayal. Why do this to yourself?"

"I can't stand betrayal, but you've already bullied me - of course I can't let you two have it easy." Harriet looked at him coldly, speaking word by word. "Tristan, as long as I'm alive, you won't have peace!"

"As long as I don't divorce you, Tamsin will have to be the third party, and you two will be nailed to the pillar of shame."

"Finally, I'm warning you - I have my pride too. From now on, if you and Tamsin dare to openly carry on, don't blame me for not being nice! I don't mind making this a big deal. Even if we both go down, I don't care!"

After saying this, Harriet turned and left.

As soon as she walked out of the lounge area, she ran into Caspian.

"Harriet, what's wrong?" Caspian could tell immediately that something was off with Harriet's emotions.

"Nothing." Harriet shook her head gently. "Caspian, let's go."

"What happened?" Caspian grabbed her wrist. "Tell me clearly. Did Tristan bully you?"

"Don't ask." Harriet was afraid her emotions would spiral out of control if she stayed any longer. "Let's just go."

Caspian turned to look at Tristan, his expression growing darker. He let go of Harriet's hand and was about to rush forward.

"Caspian!" Harriet quickly stopped him. "I'm not feeling well right now. Can you take me to the hospital?"

Tristan was startled and suddenly turned to look at Harriet.

Caspian became anxious too. "Harriet, what's wrong? Where don't you feel well?"

"My head hurts." Harriet closed her eyes. "Caspian, I want to go back to the hospital."

Caspian didn't care about anything else. He scooped Harriet up in his arms and strode toward the elevator.

Tristan instinctively wanted to follow, but after taking one step, he stopped.

He laughed at himself and stood there for a long time before sitting down on the sofa where Harriet had been sitting, closing his eyes in pain.

Caspian carried Harriet to the car, and the driver immediately headed to the hospital.

"Harriet, are you okay?"

"I'm fine." Harriet smiled slightly. "Caspian, I lied to you just now. I'm not really sick."

"But you look terrible." Caspian asked worriedly, "What did you and Tristan talk about? He bullied you, didn't he?"

"Caspian, I want to handle this myself." Harriet didn't want to hide it from him - she couldn't anyway. "Can you promise me you won't get involved in things between Tristan and me?"

"But I can't just stand by and watch you get bullied."

"I won't let anyone bully me." Harriet said softly. "If I need help, I'll tell you, okay?"

Caspian nodded. "Okay, I promise."

After returning to the hospital, Caspian called a doctor to examine Harriet.

Fortunately, there was nothing wrong.

After eating together, he waited until Harriet fell asleep before leaving.

As soon as the hospital room door closed, Harriet on the bed slowly opened her eyes.

She stared blankly at the white ceiling. After a long time, she raised her hand and felt the tears at the corner of her eyes.

She had indeed lied to Caspian. Her head hurt terribly, and she felt awful.

Because no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't understand why Tristan had suddenly become like this.

Her instinct told her this wasn't as simple as it seemed.

But people's hearts were so unfathomable - maybe her understanding of Tristan was still too superficial.

Maybe this was his true self.

Harriet closed her eyes wearily and forced herself to sleep.

Although Harriet had made harsh threats, Tristan still prepared the divorce papers and had Ryder deliver them to the hospital.

Harriet flipped through the agreement and laughed coldly. "To divorce me, he's willing to leave with nothing. Looks like he really does love Tamsin."

Ryder looked troubled. "Mrs. Lancaster, Mr. Lancaster said to please sign as soon as possible."

"Who said I would sign?" Harriet smiled and threw the divorce papers on the floor. "I said I wouldn't let him have it easy. He dared to cheat and still wants me to help them? Dream on."

"Mrs. Lancaster." Ryder spoke reluctantly. "Even if you don't divorce, you and Mr. Lancaster can't go back to how things were."
