Chapter 225 Don't Believe Him
After a good night's sleep, Scarlett woke up to bright sunshine, and the gloom in her heart had completely vanished.
The emotions from last night had disappeared without a trace. Her rationality had returned, and facing Ambrose's invitation, she immediately stopped kissing him.
"The offer's expired. From now on, you still have to keep accepting challenges and tests." Scarlett smiled like a fox, smugly getting up from him.
Ambrose could only feel helpless, sitting up as well, just watching her.
After straightening her clothes and preparing to get out of the car, Scarlett remembered something. In her daze last night, she seemed to have heard him on the phone, so she asked, "Was the truck driver from last night saved?"
While buttoning his cuffs, he replied, "No, he didn't make it."
Scarlett froze for a moment. With the driver dead, the lead was cut off, and the Mitchell family definitely wouldn't let this go.
"Don't worry. From now on, you'll have more bodyguards around you. They won't have any chance to make a move." Ambrose reassured her.
"You said you'd cooperate with Vaughn, so what about your project?" she finally asked after a long pause.
"The project will naturally continue. It doesn't conflict with this. Don't overthink the rest, I'll figure everything out."
Scarlett looked thoughtful, then, after a while, reminded him.
"Ambrose, standing against the Mitchell family, will definitely have a huge impact on the Boleyn Group. I'm sure you know this, so you should really think it over carefully."
Ambrose frowned slightly. "You're trying to upset me first thing in the morning?" His words clearly showed his displeasure.
Scarlett was born into a high-ranking family and knew very well what consequences came from ordinary people fighting against officials.
The Boleyn family was a century-old merchant household. She didn't want Ambrose to bring such big trouble upon himself just to pursue her. In the end, it would only make this relationship unbearable.
"I'm just telling it like it is. I'm very clear about what's at stake here. You don't need to wade into this mess because of me," she said.
Ambrose gripped both her shoulders. "If you still don't trust me, I can understand that. But if you're doubting that I, the head of the Boleyn family, am a fool, then you're really insulting Grandpa."
How did this escalate to insulting Cody?
Scarlett looked at him in disbelief. "I just reminded you, and you're turning this onto Cody? That's a bit much!"
"Grandpa chose me. If you doubt me, you're doubting Grandpa's judgment. What else would you call that but an insult?"
Seeing how he could twist this back to Cody, she was speechless and decided not to argue with him anymore.
"Anyway, I've given you all the warnings I needed to. If you really want to wade into this mess, don't blame me later," she muttered.
Ambrose knew she didn't trust him, but he didn't plan to say more, only replying coolly.
"Don't worry, I won't blame you no matter what."
Scarlett got out of the car, and Ambrose followed. She turned to see him getting out and was about to ask when he blocked her with one sentence.
"I'm making sure you get home safely."
After last night's incident, Scarlett knew it still wasn't safe, so she let him escort her.
At her doorstep, as Scarlett was about to go inside, Ambrose's phone rang, and she heard him answer.
"I'm heading over now."
Although he didn't say much, she could tell it was something urgent. She asked, "What's wrong?"
"Something at the company. I need to go back now. You rest well at home today." After Ambrose finished speaking, he turned and left.
Scarlett was fine, so she didn't stay home. Instead, after washing up and changing clothes, she went to the office.
At the office, Briar and Cleo sent her messages one after another, telling her that photos of Ambrose and Octavia out together were going viral online.
She looked and saw they were photos from their dinner last night.
Was Octavia starting to pressure Ambrose?
Scarlett checked online and found nothing more than people saying Ambrose and Octavia were a perfect match, asking when they'd get married, and so on.
Scarlett sneered coldly. Last time there were rumors about them, Ambrose didn't make any clarification. What about this time?
After what he said last night, she was quite curious to see how he'd handle this.
She closed the app and started arranging work matters. Actually, she didn't come to the office today for work. It was Saturday, she mainly came to see what was happening on Ambrose's end.
From the looks of it, was it about the rumors with Octavia?
But rumors about them weren't new. He wouldn't be that anxious about it. So what could it be?
Scarlett walked toward the break room, thinking.
She made herself a cup of coffee. Just as she was about to take it out, Cleo came in. She asked, "Are you working overtime today too?"
There weren't many people from the design department working overtime, and Cleo was one of them.
She made a bitter face. "My team leader called me in. New project, super urgent, the whole team's working overtime." Then she asked, "Why are you here too?"
"Didn't I take several days off recently? I still have some work to finish, so I came in," Scarlett said, then added.
"If it's a new project, then yeah, it'll be busy."
Cleo sighed with drooping shoulders. "Tell me about it. But Mr. Boleyn is generous that the overtime pay is pretty tempting."
At this, Cleo leaned close to Scarlett and said quietly, "Earlier, Echo was asking me about Mr. Boleyn and Octavia. She's probably trying to dig for information from me."
Scarlett had always known Echo was asking around about her, so she'd told Cleo in advance to pretend they weren't on good terms.
"Just hint that they might have an arranged marriage relationship. Don't say more than that." Cleo nodded.
