Chapter 165 Do You Want to Compensate Me?
Ambrose had never been played this thoroughly before. He'd never been deceived this badly. He was burning with rage, radiating murderous intent.
The Mitchell family did all this because they had their eyes on the Boleyn family's wealth and power!
"Mr. Boleyn, now that we know about this, do we still need to keep playing along with Octavia?"
Ambrose's earlier excitement had faded, his face dark. At yesterday's meeting, he hadn't given the Mitchell family a face. They would definitely make another move.
"Act like we don't know anything. If they planned this so early, they must be after something specific. We'll play along with their game." He said after thinking it over.
He wanted Octavia and Indigo to confess to that conspiracy from years ago with their own mouths.
Chase nodded. He thought, four years ago, before Ambrose had taken control of the Boleyn family, the Mitchell family had already set their sights on him. Their judgment was ruthless. What exactly were they planning?
"About the child, should we tell Ms. Mellon?" Chase asked again.
He also wanted to get this clear, to avoid slipping up later.
Ambrose put the paternity test report into the bag while thinking this over.
If he told Scarlett that he was the man from that night, how would she react?
That night, she had clearly been resistant to knowing who the man was.
He finished putting away the report and handed it to Chase. "Don't let her know for now. We'll tell her when the time is right."
Chase took it and prepared to leave, then heard Ambrose say, "Starting now, secretly investigate everything about everyone in the Mitchell family."
Ambrose understood that to deal with the Mitchell family, he needed to know the background of every single person in the Mitchell family, so he could quickly grasp their weaknesses.
"Xander said he's coming back. When will he arrive?" Ambrose looked up at him.
"Today." Chase glanced at his watch. "He should be landing soon."
"Alright, when he gets back, don't meet with him yet. Xander hasn't shown his face before, see if we can plant him inside the Mitchell family."
"Okay, I'll tell him, and figure out a way to get him into the Mitchell family."
Chase left, and Ambrose stayed in the study to calm himself. Octavia had deceived him for four years. Scarlett and her daughter had suffered outside for four years. He would make the Mitchell family pay back this suffering with interest.
Outside, Scarlett had finished breakfast and washed the dishes when Ambrose walked into her view.
"Done eating?"
She glanced up at him. His eyes were tender as water. She felt a bit uncomfortable and responded sullenly, "Yeah."
She walked to the living room and sat down, grabbing a nearby cushion to hug while leaning against the sofa. "You're free today?"
As soon as she spoke, a body settled beside her. Ambrose sat next to her, turning his head to stare at her, "It's the weekend today. I'm off."
He never used to take weekends off, but these past two days, he'd been quite leisurely.
Seeing his gaze burning into her, she lowered her eyes. "The two kids are at your place. Aren't you going back to see them?"
Everything she said was trying to get rid of him. In the past, he would have lost his temper, but now he didn't care at all, leaning lazily against the sofa with a roguish air.
"Someone's taking care of the kids. I need to rest too."
Then he turned his head to look at her. "Last night, you didn't have nightmares?"
Hearing him bring up last night, Scarlett's expression froze slightly. After a few seconds, she said, "Although it was pretty scary, it's not the first time I've been through something like this. I'm okay."
Ambrose froze again. Thinking about how she'd experienced this before, he felt indescribable emotions, wishing he could tear Octavia and Wesley to pieces.
Wesley had gotten what he deserved. Now, only Octavia was left.
Thinking of Wesley made him think of the Ross Group. The Ross Group had essentially been acquired by the Boleyn Group now. This was Scarlett's life's work. If he gave her life's work back to her, how would she react?
"By the way, the Ross Group has now been acquired by the Boleyn Group. According to our previous agreement, the Ross Group belongs to you now."
As he spoke, his eyes stayed fixed on Scarlett's reaction. He saw her lift her eyes to look at him, questioning.
"How does a company acquired by the Boleyn Group belong to me?"
"When we made our deal, I said I'd help you divorce, and you'd get the assets you deserved, so the Ross Group is yours." The way Ambrose put it made perfect sense.
But Scarlett didn't see it that way. Wesley was Wesley, Ambrose was Ambrose. She wouldn't let Ambrose pay to buy the Ross Group and transfer it to her. She shook her head in refusal.
"I don't want it. This belongs to the Boleyn Group."
Ambrose had guessed this would be the result and didn't push her. He raised an eyebrow and said lightly.
"Actually, the Boleyn Group didn't spend any money. What the Boleyn Group paid was far below the Ross Group's value, so the extra money is yours."
Such smooth talk. Scarlett still wouldn't accept it.
"I don't want it."
"If you don't want it, give it to your daughter. Yara doesn't have anything to fall back on." Ambrose shifted his target to Yara.
Scarlett lowered her head and mumbled, "I'll earn something for Yara to fall back on myself."
As the two were at a standoff, Scarlett's phone rang. The ringtone came from the bedroom. She dropped the cushion in her arms and got up to get her phone from the bedroom.
The call was from Yara. Yara was crying, saying she missed her so much. Scarlett's heart clenched watching this. She'd been on business trips before, but at most for one day. Yara hadn't seen her for two days and definitely wasn't used to it.
"Don't cry. Having Hayden with you is the same."
"Mommy, are you back?" Yara's sharp eyes immediately spotted the background behind Scarlett, it was Scarlett's bedroom.
Scarlett fell silent.
She'd just now realized the wardrobe behind her had given her away.
She had to say, "I just got back."
Yara raised her hand to wipe her tears, saying in a muffled voice, "Mommy, you don't want me to come back so you can go play by yourself, right?"
"No, Mommy really just got back. I was thinking of coming to pick you up later, but then you called."
"You don't need to pick me up. I'll have the butler take me back." Only then did Yara break into a smile through her tears. She could finally see Scarlett.
"I'm coming back too." Hayden's face moved close to the screen.
Scarlett quickly said, "Hayden, you should stay at your place!"
"You don't want me anymore?" Hayden's face turned stern, that expression exactly like when Ambrose got stern. Scarlett was a bit stunned.
"No, you should stay at your place for now. When there's a chance later, I'll have you come over."
"I don't want to. I want to come over."
With that, the phone hung up.
Scarlett felt like everything was falling apart. How could she get Hayden to give up the idea of living here? Looked like she'd have to be tougher.
Ambrose, leaning against the bedroom doorway, watched her lazily.
"You don't want Hayden to come live here?"
Scarlett turned her head and saw Ambrose at the door. Guessing he'd heard, she spoke honestly.
"It's not appropriate for him to live here right now. You know about the situation between his mother and me. I don't want to drag Hayden into this."
The secret in Ambrose's heart wanted to come out, but couldn't. He swallowed it back down uncomfortably. "Alright, we'll do as you say."
Only then did Scarlett breathe a sigh of relief. Then she saw Ambrose with his head lowered, seemingly lost in thought.
"Are you angry?" Scarlett couldn't help but ask.
Ambrose lifted his head with a roguish smile, "I'm angry. Are you going to make it up to me?"
