Chapter 260: The Missing Man
Sophia thought Viper sounded familiar.
James quickly put down his coffee and stood up from his chair.
He asked, "Is the Viper your husband mentioned referring to a person?"
The woman shook her head. "I don't know."
Sophia curiously asked, "Why are you sure he's missing?"
The woman said seriously, "Every time he leaves, he tells me that if he doesn't contact me for half a month, it means something has happened to him."
Sophia stroked her chin. "That means he knew something might happen to him one day."
"What exactly does your husband do for a living? His situation is so dangerous, don't you know anything about it?" She added.
The woman shook her head.
Sophia said helplessly, "You don't know anything about what he does, how did you dare to marry him?"
The woman lowered her head and said, "He saved my life. I was kidnapped by kidnappers, and he risked his life to save me. I know he's an extraordinary person. He won't tell me his profession, and he must have his reasons."
Sophia couldn't understand what reason the man had that he couldn't tell his wife.
But she didn't plan to press on this matter and instead said, "Can you show me the location he sent you?"
The woman sent the location to Sophia. Sophia glanced at them and said, "This is at sea, and it's at least 25 miles from Emerald City. Is he a sailor?"
The woman shook her head. "I don't know."
Sophia asked, "What's his name? You must know that."
The woman said seriously, "His name is Dexter Bailey."
Sophia glanced at James. "We might need your help."
James nodded and asked the woman, "Do you have a photo of him?"
The woman nodded and immediately sent the photo to Sophia.
James sent the man's name and photo to the police station, then sat there and said to the woman, "There are no vipers this season. I suspect the Viper Dexter mentioned refers to a person."
"I hope you can recall if he ever mentioned anything about Viper or any encounters he had outside. You can tell us everything."
The woman thought for a moment and said, "We have very little contact. Most of our communication is about his safety. It seems like he's doing something very dangerous. I once advised him to quit, but he was unwilling. He said it was his mission."
Sophia said angrily, "What kind of job requires leaving you and being away for so long, not even coming home? I advise you to divorce. Such a man is not worth keeping."
The woman said, "But I think he's great. He never made me sad, except for not coming home. At least he sends money regularly. His salary always goes into my bank account on time."
Sophia said, "But can money buy companionship?"
The woman suddenly fell silent, then said, "But he saved my life."
Sophia sat there. "So your request now is to find him?"
The woman nodded heavily.
Sophia sighed. "Finding someone at sea won't be easy, but I'll help you because we're also looking for someone named Viper."
The woman said excitedly, "Thank you."
Sophia sighed. "But I can't guarantee we'll find him."
The woman lowered her head and choked up, "As long as you try, I can wait."
Sophia felt conflicted.
If the Viper Dexter mentioned was indeed the person they were looking for, it might be really difficult to find Dexter.
After all, James had searched all over Emerald City for so long without finding anyone named Viper, which meant Viper was very good at hiding.
If they had trouble finding Viper, how could Dexter find him?
Especially if Dexter had met with misfortune.
"How much do you charge? I can pay you now," the woman said, looking up.
Sophia looked at the crying woman and hesitated before saying, "I don't want your money. If I find your husband, just give me a thank-you letter."
"Okay, thank you." The woman bowed to Sophia.
After the woman left, James turned to Sophia and said, "I found Dexter."
Sophia asked curiously, "What does he do that's worth such deep affection?"
James calmly said, "Undercover."
"What!"
Sophia gasped. She had never thought of that.
"If that's the case, then the Viper he mentioned should be the person we're looking for."
"What does this location mean? Are they on a ship?"
James nodded. "It's possible. I've searched all over Emerald City and know the people there, but I've never heard of Viper. So it's possible he's not on land."
Sophia thought this guess made sense.
She glanced outside, where it was still raining.
She quickly ran out, caught up with the woman, and said, "I apologize for my earlier behavior. Please don't leave Dexter. Trust me, he's worth waiting for."
The woman was stunned and looked at Sophia in disbelief.
Her eyes lit up, and she asked eagerly, "Do you know where he is?"
Sophia said, "I can't be sure, but I will help you find him."
The woman grabbed Sophia's hand, her voice hoarse, "Thank you. Please help me find him!"
Sophia nodded heavily. "Don't worry."
When Sophia returned to the Mystery Detective Agency, James was packing up.
She asked in surprise, "What are you doing?"
James said, "I need to go out. There's been a murder at sea."
Sophia gasped, "Could it be Dexter?"
James said seriously, "We can't be sure yet, but according to the information from the scene, they found two iron barrels filled with cement and sunk to the bottom of the sea."
"The fishermen who found the barrels saw they contained bodies and immediately called the police."
Sophia's face turned pale. "Sunk to the bottom of the sea."
She asked eagerly, "Where exactly?"
James said, "About the same distance as the location the woman provided."
"Then it's not a coincidence. The distance Dexter sent might be related to these bodies." Sophia said seriously, "I suspect there might be more than just these two bodies."
She sighed, "I hope Dexter isn't among them."
