Chapter 62
"You're keeping secrets from me?" Jason stared at me with a dark look in his eyes.
Jessica was the biggest secret.
I wasn't mentally prepared, and when Jason suddenly pressed me, I instinctively looked away guiltily.
"Some things... now isn't the right time to tell you."
At least until Victoria's situation was handled, I didn't really want Jason to know Jessica's true identity.
Jason's expression grew darker as he shot back, "Brian can know, but I can't?"
Jason gritted his teeth.
I fell silent.
About Jessica, I really didn't want to tell Jason right now.
My silence seemed to anger Jason.
His hand gripped my wrist tightly as he leaned closer to me. "Stop working at DT. Come work for me."
"No." I had no interest in working with an ex-boyfriend.
"I'll pay you more!"
"I take what I earn based on my abilities. Extra money would make me uncomfortable."
"But at least I can protect you and keep you from being bullied."
That one sentence from Jason left me completely silent.
After a moment, I said, "But right now, the person bullying me is you, isn't it?"
Jason froze, and his grip on my wrist loosened slightly.
I took the chance to pull my hand back and tried to open the door to get out.
Jason was quick to stop me and lock the car door.
He reached out with his long arm and pulled me into his embrace.
His familiar scent surrounded me. My body tensed up as I struggled desperately!
Several times, I almost broke free, but Jason just pushed me back down.
After struggling for a while, I completely ran out of energy and could only resign myself to leaning against Jason.
In my ear was Jason's racing heartbeat.
His voice was full of helplessness. "You're harder to pin down than a pig at New Year's."
As he spoke, he lowered his head and kissed my lips. "Be good, okay? Stay by my side, or I'll worry."
At a moment that should have made my heart race, all I felt was an indescribable ache in my chest.
My eyes stung too.
Tears slid down uncontrollably from my eyes.
The scene before me became blurry, and in a daze, I saw Jason's panicked expression.
I blinked, and Jason's face came into sharp focus—anxious and worried, but also somewhat wronged.
He took a tissue to wipe my tears, his tone mostly dissatisfied. "It's not like I haven't kissed you before. Why are you reacting so strongly? Do you really hate it that much when I touch you?"
By the end, Jason's voice sounded aggrieved.
But the more he acted this way, the more frustrated and angry I became.
Staring at Jason's all-too-familiar face, I finally couldn't hold back and demanded angrily, "Let me go! You already have a girlfriend, yet you're here getting tangled up with me. How can you face your girlfriend?!"
"Girlfriend?"
This time, it was Jason's turn to look confused.
He frowned and shook his head. "I don't have a girlfriend. Is this why you're crying?"
He seemed to think of something, and his expression softened considerably as he reached out to wipe the tears from my face. "So you're jealous?"
I glared at him angrily. Was that what I was talking about?
"Stop lying to me. Someone already told me. You do have a girlfriend, so you shouldn't be bothering me anymore!"
"I'm right here in front of you personally denying it, and you don't believe me, but you believe what someone else said?"
Jason almost laughed in frustration.
He pinched my face with one hand.
I angrily slapped it away.
His hand turned red from my slap, but Jason wasn't angry. He just asked me, "Who told you I have a girlfriend?"
"Your girlfriend came to me herself and told me, and told me to stay away from you."
Thinking of Victoria's smug attitude in front of me made me both angry and wronged.
Jason was the one who kept bothering me, so why was I the one getting scolded in the end?
"Victoria?" Jason frowned, thought for a moment, then said a name.
I looked at him like I was looking at a cheating scumbag. "You said it yourself, and you still say you don't have a girlfriend. Who are you trying to fool?"
"She's not my girlfriend. Besides you, I've never dated anyone." Jason said each word clearly.
He pressed his thin lips together, let me go, and sat in the driver's seat.
I didn't understand what Jason was trying to do. Seeing his dark expression, I couldn't help but ask, "Where are you taking me?"
"To find Victoria and confront her face-to-face," Jason spoke without hesitation, his cold tone suppressing intense anger.
My first reaction was to refuse. "I'm not going. This is between you two. Why drag me into it?"
"You don't believe me, right? Then come with me to confront her. I'd like to see what this girlfriend I didn't even know I had can say." Jason laughed coldly, and the atmosphere in the car dropped several degrees.
I looked at him deeply, suddenly feeling tired, and said, "Jason, can you please stop bothering me?"
Jason stepped on the gas, and the car shot forward like an arrow.
His voice was steady, but it carried a hint of sadness. "If I don't bother you, is there any chance for us?"
I lowered my head and said nothing.
Of course not.
From the moment I found Kean and learned he was Jason, my desire to get back together died bit by bit.
I pressed my lips together and said, "But you said it yourself before—that I'm just a materialistic woman. You should hate me and wish I'd disappear from your world completely."
Jason finally looked at me.
He said, "But you need to understand something else. You're the woman I've set my sights on. Don't even think about leaving me in this lifetime."
Complex emotions churned in my heart.
Why? Why continue this entanglement?
I said, "So you resent me for breaking up with you back then, and now you're getting revenge on me, right?"
This was the only reason I could think of.
Jason looked away and didn't answer the question.
Just as my heart was growing cold inch by inch, Jason's deep voice rang out, tugging at my heartstrings. "Sue, no matter what, you have to stay by my side. We're destined to be entangled together for lifetimes to come."
My heart trembled.
It was hard to describe how I felt right now.
Jason drove all the way to the Glacier Corp building.
He pulled me out of the car and tossed the keys to the security guard to park it.
The guard's curious gaze fell on Jason and me.
Having been to Glacier Corp many times, the guard already knew me.
When our eyes met, I could only awkwardly lower my head.
My face flushed as I wanted to escape, but Jason held me tight.
"Tell Victoria to get down here." Jason made a call to Samuel.
Although Samuel didn't know what had happened, he immediately agreed. "Yes, Mr. Cooper."
Victoria came down quickly. When the elevator doors opened, I saw Victoria's bewildered face.
Her gaze fell on Jason.
The joy I expected didn't appear. Instead, what showed on Victoria's face was panic.
