Chapter 237
I turned my head and saw Bruce and Carl standing not far away.
Both of them were looking at me.
Especially Bruce—his eyes behind his glasses looked particularly unfriendly.
The words just now came from him.
I understood immediately.
No wonder I felt his gaze was off today. It turned out he looked down on me from the bottom of his heart, thinking I got in through connections.
How interesting.
If I really wanted to use connections, would I even need to be here?
Wouldn't it be better to just go to Glacier Corp and be the boss's wife?
Noticing my gaze, Bruce pressed his lips together and said nothing more.
Carl also kept his mouth shut, nodding at me as a greeting.
I slowly curved the corners of my mouth into a smile, said nothing, withdrew my gaze, turned my head, and stopped looking at them.
After lunch, I returned to the office.
The others in the office were still sitting together, eating takeout.
When they saw me come back, everyone's eyes fell on me in unison.
Bruce's gaze was particularly noticeable among them, carrying obvious contempt and disdain.
"I brought some fruit for everyone."
I placed the fruit box in my hand on the table and said softly.
Marcella's eyes widened, her face full of delight, "Strawberries and cherries! These things are so expensive. I usually can't bear to buy them. Today I get to enjoy them! Thanks, Sue!"
Jade also smiled at me gratefully, "Thanks, Sue."
Carl whistled and said with a grin, "Sue, you're so generous! I was just worried about not having fruit for afternoon tea."
I smiled slightly and waved my hand. "You're welcome. Take your time eating. I'm going to get back to work."
I had a lot of work piled up that needed to be dealt with as soon as possible.
Otherwise, it would keep nagging at me.
Just as I was almost done, a document suddenly appeared on my desk.
"Ms. Wilson, look over this contract."
Bruce stood in front of me, his tone cold and hard.
I took it and glanced through it, then frowned. "This shouldn't be within your scope of work."
But Bruce didn't care, "Indeed it's not, but our company is small. If everyone does a bit more, wouldn't that be better for the company's development? Just taking up a position without doing any work—isn't that unreasonable?"
"Although I've only been here a short time, I already think of the company as my own home."
These words weren't even subtle hints—he was pointing at my nose saying I was holding the secretary position without doing any work.
Anger rose in my heart. I frowned and stared at Bruce, "Hasn't anyone taught you not to handle official business above your level?"
I put the document on the desk.
"This is company confidential information. If it gets leaked, we can reasonably suspect you did it."
Bruce obviously didn't expect me to say this.
His expression changed slightly, and he snorted coldly with his neck stiff. "Ms. Wilson, are you twisting logic?"
"You're so afraid of me handling documents—are you worried I'll take your position?"
I shook my head and withdrew my gaze, bored.
"If you have issues with job positions, you can go talk to Ms. Blake. All company positions are decided by Ms. Blake. Showing off in front of me won't help."
Bruce was still too young.
He couldn't hide things on his face or in his heart.
Having ambition is good, but not being able to stay calm is bad.
Bruce's words got stuck in his throat.
He wanted to say something more, but I cut him off directly.
"Also, I'll report your handling of documents above your level to Ms. Blake truthfully. How to deal with it specifically, we'll wait for Ms. Blake's decision."
Originally, I thought the atmosphere in the office was pretty good.
I didn't expect that after recovering and coming back, I'd run into such an annoying person.
Bruce walked away with a gloomy face.
I shook my head and didn't take it to heart.
Before long, Seraphine came over.
She sat down beside me, her tone helpless, "Bruce is a bit proud and arrogant. Sometimes what he says might not sound nice, but his abilities are decent. Sue, you're also a veteran employee—try to be understanding, okay?"
I looked down at the documents, not even lifting my head, "I didn't argue with him. He's the one who kept coming to me."
Work was piling up and I was incredibly busy. How would I have time to deal with Bruce?
Seraphine sighed. "He and Carl both graduated from prestigious schools. We put in a lot of effort to recruit them. Our company is small, and it's not easy to hire people."
Now I understood.
She was worried I'd target Bruce in the future and drive him away?
After organizing all the processed documents, I finally looked up at Seraphine.
"Don't worry. As long as he doesn't provoke me, I won't actively look for trouble. I came here to work, not to treat this place as my territory."
It must be because Jason gave the Polaris Company project.
Seraphine might be worried that I'd rely on Jason's support and turn Polaris Company upside down.
An awkward smile appeared on Seraphine's face.
"Sue, don't overthink it. I didn't mean anything by it."
I responded flatly and stood up to walk toward Ms. Blake's office.
After reporting my work, I paused, then told Ophelia about Bruce overstepping his authority.
Ophelia pondered for a moment and looked up at me, "How do you want to handle it?"
I shook my head. "I'm just your secretary. For me, I just need to do my job well. The decision-making power within the company is all in your hands."
With these words, Ophelia was clearly relieved.
She rubbed her temples, "Bruce's abilities are indeed good, but his temperament still needs work. I originally wanted you to look after him, but now it seems you two don't get along well."
I said, "If it's work-related, I have no problem."
After thinking for a moment, Ophelia still nodded, "Alright then, have Bruce be your assistant for this period."
"Okay."
Coming out of the office, I looked up and happened to meet Bruce's proud gaze.
I ignored his look and calmly assigned him work.
"Basically, that's it. If there are no problems, then go get busy."
"Wait, I have a question."
Bruce stopped me, "Ms. Wilson, you've given me all the work, so what are you going to do?"
I said, "What I assigned you is just the more basic work."
I really didn't want to say another word to him.
I went straight back to my workstation.
Before long, Bruce came over angrily.
He slammed the documents heavily in front of me.
"What is it?"
I frowned, a trace of irritation rising in my heart.
This person had already provoked me several times today.
Bruce's voice was cold, with resentment that wasn't hard to detect, "Ms. Wilson, Ms. Blake asked you to mentor me, that's true, but you don't need to deliberately make things difficult for me, right?"
Only then did I raise my eyebrows and look over. "Is there any need for me to make things difficult for you?"
Bruce: "Then why did you give me a pile of documents I can't understand?"
Hearing this, I almost laughed in anger.
This is the top student Seraphine mentioned?
"Not understanding only means you need to learn. Jumping to conclusions that others are making things difficult for you—seems like you've done this kind of thing a lot before?"
I asked back in an icy tone.
"If you think I took your position, you can use your abilities to prove you're more suitable for the secretary position. There's no need to rage impotently here, and even less need to spread rumors behind my back."
I looked directly into his eyes, "I'm right in front of you now. You can say it to my face."
