Chapter 220
I didn't agree right away, but looked at Ophelia questioningly.
Ophelia was my boss now.
Ophelia nodded slightly, "Go ahead."
I acknowledged and left the conference room.
Having worked here for a long time, I made my way to the break room with ease.
My former colleagues saw me and gathered around excitedly, asking questions all at once.
"Ms. Wilson, long time no see! You're getting more and more beautiful!"
"What Ms. Wilson? We should call her Mrs. Cooper now."
"Right, right, I was so happy to see Mrs. Cooper that I almost forgot about that."
I felt helpless.
"Just call me by my name, no need to be so formal."
I shook my head while starting to grind coffee.
Brian was picky and only drank freshly ground coffee.
My former colleagues noticed what I was doing, gathered around me and began speaking one by one.
"Speaking of which, since Ms. Wilson left, none of the coffee we've made has satisfied Mr. Ethan."
"Yeah, last time Mr. Ethan asked me to make him coffee, he frowned after just one sip and put it down. He never asked me to make coffee again after that."
"Ms. Wilson, since you're making coffee anyway, could you teach us? How do you make coffee that Mr. Ethan likes?"
I had nothing to hide and agreed.
Just as I was making coffee and explaining the details, the sound of hurried high heels approached.
"Sue! I trusted you so much, and you came here to make coffee for Brian!"
Elizabeth rushed in angrily, glaring at me.
I raised an eyebrow, "I haven't settled the score with you yet for betraying me last time."
Elizabeth's angry momentum weakened a bit.
She avoided eye contact, her voice softer, "That's because Brian asked me and I just couldn't lie to Brian!"
This lovesick fool should stay out of my sight!
My former colleagues exchanged glances and tactfully left the break room.
Elizabeth looked around before turning to me.
"Sue, teach me how to make coffee! I want to make coffee that Brian loves too!"
I looked at her coolly.
"What makes you think I'd help someone who betrayed me?"
Elizabeth's expression stiffened, then she cleared her throat.
"I already explained that there was a reason for it, and I won't let you teach me for nothing."
I raised an eyebrow, signaling her to continue.
"I'll pay you! Consider it buying your recipe!"
I shook my head, "I have enough money to last me a lifetime now. I don't need money."
If it were before, I might have been tempted.
But now, I am a wealthy lady too!
Elizabeth bit her lip, "Then tell me what you want. As long as I can afford it, I'm willing!"
"I don't want anything. If you want to learn, just watch me do it."
I paused and added, "I only have one requirement."
"What requirement?"
"Stop talking. It's a bit noisy."
I had chatted with my former colleagues earlier and lost some time.
I sped up my coffee-making.
Not just for Brian, but also for Ophelia.
After making two cups of coffee, I picked them up to take to the conference room.
Elizabeth stopped me, "I haven't learned it yet. Why don't you make another cup?"
I said, "Let me deliver the coffee first."
Elizabeth finally let go, "Okay, but come back soon. I'll wait here."
I nodded and headed quickly to the conference room.
"Mr. Ethan, Ms. Blake, your coffee."
"Ms. Wilson seems slower now. Haven't made coffee in a while, getting rusty?"
Brian's tone was teasing.
I shrugged, "Can't help it. Mr. Ethan's fiancée is very interested in making coffee, which took some time."
"She's here?"
Brian asked.
"Waiting in the break room to continue making coffee."
I replied, "How many cups is Mr. Ethan planning to drink today?"
Brian looked at Ophelia, "Ms. Blake, may I borrow your assistant for a bit?"
Ophelia nodded, "No problem."
I left the conference room and returned to the break room.
By the time I finished teaching Elizabeth how to make coffee, Ophelia and Brian had signed their contract.
Landing two big deals in one day, Ophelia walked with a spring in her step when leaving DT Corp, clearly very happy.
On the way back to the office, I drove while Ophelia reviewed documents in the back seat.
"Ms. Wilson."
Ophelia suddenly spoke.
"Ms. Blake, what is it?"
"Thank you for helping the company so much."
Ophelia smiled, "Although you didn't say anything, I know you put in effort with Casey, right? Otherwise the West Group wouldn't have cooperated with us, or even voluntarily given up profits."
"And as for DT Corp, I originally estimated we'd have to give up some profit to reach a deal, but I didn't expect Mr. Ethan to sign the contract so readily."
"All of this came through you. Without you, things wouldn't have gone so smoothly."
Hearing this, I just shook my head.
"Ms. Blake, would you believe me if I said it was all coincidence?"
Ophelia smiled, "Luck is also part of ability. Having you is our company's blessing."
Friday afternoon.
Near quitting time, I had just finished my work and was about to pack up when I got a call from Lily.
"You don't have to work tomorrow, right? Want to get together tonight?"
I smiled, "Sure, I'll go buy groceries after work. Why don't you bring Ryan to my place for dinner?"
"Great, we'll come over together in a bit."
After hanging up, I messaged Jason.
Sue: [Lily and Ryan are coming over for dinner tonight. I'm going to the supermarket to buy groceries.]
Jason replied instantly.
Jason: [I'll go with you.]
I was about to say it wasn't necessary when he added another message.
Jason: [If there are too many groceries, I'd feel bad having you carry them alone.]
I smiled, feeling warm inside.
Sue: [Okay, I'll wait for you.]
Jason: [Be there in ten minutes.]
The weather was warming up which was perfect for a barbecue in the backyard tonight.
A few good friends gathered around a warm fire, grilling and chatting—just thinking about it felt relaxing and pleasant.
Thinking we needed enough for several people, we bought lots of ingredients.
After getting home, I directed Jason to bring everything to the kitchen and started processing them right away.
Lila was startled by all the food and hurried over to help.
"Mrs. Cooper, do you have plans tonight?"
"Yes, friends are coming over for dinner. I thought we could have a barbecue in the backyard. Lila, you and Imogen should join us later."
I answered while my hands kept working.
With Lila's help, I managed to marinate all the ingredients and prepare the skewers before Lily and Ryan arrived.
"Sue! I missed you so much!"
Before I saw Lily, her voice had already reached me.
The next moment, she wrapped me in a hug.
"It's been so long since we've seen each other! I've been missing you so much I've gotten all haggard!"
I tilted my head, examining Lily carefully, then gave an honest assessment, "You've gained weight. Ryan's been taking good care of you."
