Chapter 189
Cade shook his head, "Better not. You heard her screaming just now - how scary was that! What if we let her out and she goes crazy and attacks us?"
Kaida felt a bit soft-hearted, "But..."
Cade cut her off.
"No buts. Remember the cripple's wife from the next village?"
Kaida nodded.
Cade continued, "His wife was mentally ill. She took a knife in the middle of the night and killed the cripple. He died so unfairly! If they'd sent her to a mental hospital earlier, he wouldn't have died like that."
"Victoria's got a black heart too. What if she comes at us with a knife? Could you handle that?"
Kaida shook her head, and whatever bit of sympathy she had completely disappeared.
"You're right. Let's just keep her in there so she doesn't cause trouble outside."
She became more convinced as she spoke.
"If she goes crazy and attacks someone else, we'd have to pay. If she attacks us, whether we die or survive, we lose! I may be old, but I'm not ready to die yet."
"Exactly."
As they were talking, they suddenly felt a chill down their backs.
They turned around to see Victoria glaring at them with bloodshot eyes, looking like she wanted to tear them apart!
She clawed at the air trying to lunge at them. If not for the iron bars, she would have already pounced on them and started biting.
"You bastards! You heartless monsters! I curse you to get hit by a car when you go out! To choke on water! To suffocate in your sleep! You like drinking, right? I hope you both drink yourselves to death! And when you die, no one will collect your bodies! You should rot and stink in a gutter!"
She spoke rapidly, every word dripping with hatred.
Cade's chest heaved with anger as he pointed at Victoria's nose and cursed.
"Shut up! You ungrateful daughter! How dare you curse your parents like this - you must have a death wish!"
Victoria laughed maniacally.
"Death wish? Yes! I've wanted to die for a long time! Do you know what it's like in here?"
"But don't worry, I won't die first. Once I get out, you two will be the first ones I come for!"
"You dare?"
Cade raised his voice.
Victoria glared right back, "Want to see if I dare?"
Kaida was scared by her crazed appearance.
She opened her mouth, her tone awkward, "Why are you yelling at us? We're not the ones who locked you up - Jason did. If you want revenge, go after him."
The hatred in Victoria's eyes grew even stronger.
Jason - how cruel his heart was!
And me - once she got out, she wouldn't spare any of them!
Seeing Victoria's attention shift, Kaida quickly tugged hard at Cade's arm.
"Let's go, let's go. She's gone crazy! This is too scary."
The two didn't dare look back and ran off in a panic.
Victoria stared hard at their retreating figures, her eyes completely bloodshot.
I was in a great mood today, humming while cooking.
After all, Cade and Kaida's situation was resolved, Jason didn't have to keep getting cursed at by internet users, and Glacier Corp's stock price had stabilized.
Everything was working out perfectly!
I moved around the kitchen like a happy little bee gathering nectar.
A familiar low laugh came from nearby.
I immediately turned to look, my smile growing brighter, "You're back?"
Jason stepped forward, wrapped his arms around me, and planted a light kiss on my lips.
"You're very happy today."
I nodded without hesitation.
"Of course! The truth finally came out! Of course I'm happy!"
Jason nuzzled my nose with his, his voice low and magnetic.
"Were you worried about me?"
I didn't hide my true feelings.
"You're the pillar of this family, Jessica's dad, and the person I love. Of course I'd worry if something happened to you."
After this incident, I realized something.
Without knowing it, I'd come to see Jason as family.
Our family of three was a little home.
Jason's eyes darkened.
He held my waist with one hand and cupped the back of my head with the other, leaning down to kiss me.
In the distance was the sound of stewing food, in my ears was my racing heartbeat.
I pressed my hands against Jason's chest and said with difficulty, "Wait, Jessica's still outside."
I was happy, but we still needed to consider the child.
Jason licked his lips, not quite satisfied, and reluctantly let go.
But the way he looked at me was too intense, as if he wanted to burn a hole through my soul.
I lowered my head to avoid his gaze and pushed him out, "Go wash hands with Jessica - dinner's almost ready!"
Jason's pleasant low laugh filled my ears.
"Okay."
After dinner, we both went to our room early with perfect understanding.
Jessica was becoming more independent now and could wash up and go to bed by herself without us worrying.
After my shower, I carefully applied body lotion and did my skincare routine.
When I came out of the bathroom, Jason had already showered and was lying in bed, patting the space beside him.
His robe hung open, revealing a large expanse of skin.
My cheeks burned, but I still actively crawled into his arms.
Jason's eyes were remarkably bright as he looked down at me and asked knowingly, "What are you doing?"
I blinked and took the initiative to hook my arms around his neck and kiss him.
At this point, what was there to ask?
By the time we finished, it was already 1:30 AM.
Jason carried me to clean up and changed the sheets.
He'd become very skilled at changing sheets.
I was exhausted and didn't want to move a single finger.
Jason carried me back to bed and gently blow-dried my hair.
I half-closed my eyes and leaned against him, enjoying the comfort.
The next day, I called Lily.
Lily had left the production crew when filming was almost done.
With New Year approaching and not wanting to deal with Ryan, she'd simply packed her bags and gone back to her hometown.
"Lily, when are you coming back?"
Lily replied, "Why? Miss me?"
"I miss you so much. Without you here, I can't eat or sleep well. I think about you day and night, can't sleep..."
Lily didn't know whether to laugh or cry, "Stop, stop! Where did you learn all this?"
She paused and added, "But I definitely can't come back before New Year. My parents won't let me leave."
"Everything's great at home. I just eat and sleep all day like a pig. My parents keep finding new ways to make delicious food and feed me. I feel like my weight is increasing at an alarming rate every day."
I smiled, "Sounds like you're really happy!"
Lily on the other end seemed to think of something and changed the subject.
"But it's not all good at home. My parents keep pushing me to go on blind dates. I've only been back a few days and they've already introduced me to lots of guys. They want me to get married quickly and then stay in my hometown instead of going back to Seaside City."
I was shocked and instinctively asked, "You're going on blind dates? What about Ryan?"
Lily fell silent.
Had these two really not made up since their last fight?
I asked carefully, "Have you two been in contact lately?"
Lily replied, "He hasn't contacted me."
