Chapter 169
Jessica couldn't quite understand what was going on between those two.
She leaned close to my ear and asked in a confused whisper, "Mom, why are Lily and Ryan putting food on each other's plates? Can't they do it themselves?"
Jessica paused, then as if thinking of something, added, "Did they make up?"
I nodded and chose to answer the first question, "Maybe it tastes better that way."
At least judging by Lily's expression, that seemed to be the case.
Jessica nodded as if she understood, reached out to pick up a piece of meat and put it in my bowl, her voice sweet, "Mom, I'll get some for you too!"
The corners of my lips curved up uncontrollably as I also picked up a piece of her favorite dish for Jessica, "Jessica, you eat too."
Let them flirt all they want.
I have my precious Jessica.
After dinner, I had just finished cleaning up the trash when Lily poked her head in from outside the kitchen.
I looked at her in surprise, "What's up?"
Lily rubbed her hands together and grinned, "I'll take out the trash for you."
Without giving me a chance to speak, she grabbed the trash bag and ran outside.
I shook my head and continued tidying the kitchen.
Before long, Jessica ran in excitedly, "Mom! Lily and Ryan are kissing again in the yard!"
I quickly finished cleaning the stove, rushed upstairs two steps at a time, and swiftly packed all of Lily's things back into her suitcase. I stripped off the sheets and threw them in the laundry basket!
I carried her suitcase downstairs and stood with my arms crossed, waiting for Lily to finish kissing and come back.
A moment later, Lily came back in with swollen lips again.
She froze when she saw me, then her eyes fell on the suitcase beside me.
She opened her mouth, "Sue..."
I raised an eyebrow, stepped past her, went to the sofa to grab Lily's bag, and pushed the suitcase straight to Ryan who had just come in behind her.
"Take all this, and take her with you right now!"
Ryan's face broke into a smile. Without a word, he took the luggage and pulled the still-confused Lily away quickly.
After those two left, I let out a heavy breath and turned to go upstairs.
A couple days later, I got a call from Lily.
"Sue, I moved!"
I was surprised, but then it made sense, "You moved in with Ryan?"
Lily's tone sounded a bit embarrassed, "Yeah."
I continued asking, "So are you two together now?"
There was a brief silence on the other end, followed by Lily's voice, which gave nothing away, "I guess so."
I thought for a moment, then said, "Congratulations on finding a boyfriend."
Lily laughed, "Thanks!"
She changed the subject, "When is Jason coming back?"
I calculated, "Two more days. After all, it's the end of the year, lots of work."
We chatted casually for a bit longer.
Just then I heard someone ringing the doorbell.
Was it Tamsin?
Confused, I said to Lily, "I gotta go, let's talk another day."
I came down from the second floor, walked to the door, opened it, and saw an unfamiliar middle-aged man.
He wore a sharp suit and was tall. Though older now, you could tell from his features he'd been handsome once.
I looked at him in confusion, "Who are you looking for?"
I was absolutely certain I'd never seen this man before.
He was also looking me over, his gaze somewhat complicated.
After a moment, he finally spoke, "My name is Tyler."
I frowned, still unable to recall ever meeting him.
Tyler added, "I'm Chris and Flora's father."
I looked at him in shock, stunned for quite a while before saying suspiciously, "What do you want with me?"
Could it be that after Flora and Ember got nowhere with Tamsin, Tyler decided to target me instead?
Was he planning to offer me money to leave Jason?
I couldn't think of any other reason Tyler would come looking for me.
Though I hadn't expected Tyler to come find me himself because of her.
Tyler didn't immediately answer my question. Instead, his gaze swept over the house behind me, "Can I come in to talk?"
I stood at the door without moving, "Let's just talk here."
I had no intention of breaking up with Jason anyway, so these words could be said anywhere.
And I really didn't like the Miller family and didn't want to let them into my home.
Tyler looked around, then lowered his voice, "I'm your father."
What was he saying?
I stood there stunned for a long time, unable to process it.
He's my father?
Had I been living too well lately and developed mental problems, having hallucinations?
Cora had never told me anything about my biological father.
I didn't know who my biological father was.
I remember when I was little, I once asked about my biological father and Cora beat me up in a rage.
She punched and kicked me viciously while cursing loudly.
Cora hit me so hard.
Even though it was when I was very young, I never dared ask again after that.
Life growing up wasn't good, and gradually, I forgot about the role of a father.
Though Cora never said it, I could clearly feel that Cora hated my biological father.
Otherwise she wouldn't never mention him.
After all, Cora would mention Luke's father to him.
Luke's father died of pancreatic cancer when he was five.
Pulling my thoughts back, I sorted out my emotions briefly and looked at Tyler again, "Mr. Miller, what did you just say?"
Tyler repeated, "Your mother is Cora, right? I'm your father."
Hearing Cora's name from his mouth, I basically believed what he said.
This matter really should be discussed inside.
After a moment of silence, I stepped aside to let him in, "Come in and talk."
Tyler followed me inside.
He sat down on the sofa, his eyes surveying the beautiful decorations around the room.
"Jason gave you this?"
I was still absorbed in the fact that he was my biological father and nodded somewhat absentmindedly.
Tyler said, "He treats you pretty well."
His tone sounded like a father evaluating a future son-in-law.
I wasn't used to and didn't like his attitude.
So I didn't respond.
Looking at this almost completely strange man, I asked after a moment of silence, "What was your relationship with Cora?"
An obvious embarrassment appeared on Tyler's face.
"We were together for a while."
"So she was your mistress?"
I understood immediately.
Never mind Flora's age - at least Chris was older than me, which meant Tyler was already married with children to Ember at that time.
Cora was really something!
With Luke in tow, she became the other woman who broke up someone's family!
I sneered inwardly.
But Tyler wasn't happy with how I put it.
He frowned slightly, "You can't really say it like that. Your mother and I truly loved each other back then. Matters of the heart can't be summed up so simply."
I stared at him coldly and sneered, "Don't make cheating sound so noble."
