Chapter 13
Jessica was really looking forward to the ocean park trip.
She got up early in the morning, got dressed, washed up, and packed her little backpack.
I brought breakfast to the table and couldn't help laughing, "I haven't even called you yet, and you're already up."
After breakfast, I took Jessica to the ocean park she wanted to visit.
She had a great time at the ocean park, running around like crazy, almost the whole day.
By the time we were getting ready to go home in the evening, she was exhausted, leaning against the back seat with her eyes half-closed, drowsy.
Seeing her tired like this, I couldn't help but chuckle softly.
After buckling Jessica's seatbelt, I noticed that the car's built-in seatbelt was too big for a little kid like Jessica.
I should get a child safety seat as soon as I get back.
I made a mental note of this before starting the car to head home.
My phone buzzed twice.
Seeing it was a message from Lily, I didn't think much and opened it right away.
Lily: [Did you know Jason got dragged to a blind date?]
My heart skipped a beat, but then I thought it made sense.
With Jason's status and position, it would be strange if he still wasn't married by now.
But how did Lily find out about this?
As if knowing my confusion, another message from Lily came through.
Lily: [I saw my readers and fans discussing it today. Someone saw Jason on a blind date with eight beautiful women at once!]
Lily: [Eight! That's so crazy hahaha, is this what rich people's love life is like? Really something else!]
Eight...
I couldn't help thinking about it.
Then I shook my head.
Even if he went on blind dates with eighty girls at once, it had nothing to do with me.
We broke up a long time ago.
Pulling my thoughts back, I slowly started the car.
It started raining.
Dense raindrops kept hitting the car window, making even my heart feel damp.
The rain got heavier and heavier, and visibility got worse.
I slowed down.
As the car reached a sharp turn, there was a loud crash. My face changed instantly, I gripped the steering wheel tight, and slammed on the brakes!
From the back seat came Jessica's pained gasp, making my heart clench immediately.
"Jessica, are you okay? Where are you hurt?"
Once the car stopped, I didn't even care about checking the collision damage. I quickly turned around to check on Jessica.
Jessica's little face was pale, clutching her left arm.
She forced a smile at me and shook her head gently. "I'm fine, Mom. I just bumped into something."
The little girl looked out at the completely dark window and asked worriedly, "Mom, did we just crash?"
"Yeah..." I felt pretty down, gave a soft response, tried to stay calm, and quietly comforted the obviously scared Jessica, "Can you wait in the car for me? I'll go out and see what happened. I'll be right back."
Jessica nodded obediently. "Okay, Mom. Be careful."
The car door opened, and a bone-chilling wind suddenly hit me.
I shivered instinctively.
There was no umbrella in the car, so I had to walk to the front of the car in the pouring rain to check.
It was a car coming from the opposite direction that crashed into mine.
The other driver was a strong man. When he saw a woman getting out of the car, his previously hesitant expression instantly turned fierce.
He quickly got out of his car and slammed the door hard.
The loud crash of the door made my heart tremble.
"Don't you know how to drive?!" the man shouted, rushing up to me. "Do you know how expensive my car is?! Can you afford to pay for it?! Now you've crashed into my car, and I have to waste time getting it fixed. Pay up now!"
I looked down at the accident scene, which was clearly caused by his car crossing the line, frowned, and said, "It's obviously your fault. I'm calling the traffic police right now to determine who's responsible."
As I spoke, I took out my phone.
The man's face clearly showed guilt. He raised his voice, "You're wasting my time! Pay up! Or I'll make you regret it!"
It was already late, and if I kept wasting time here, it would only get more dangerous.
I knew very well that he was deliberately trying to bully me because I was a woman.
Cold raindrops hit my body, making my heart feel completely cold, too.
I opened my mouth, about to ask him how much he wanted, when suddenly a tall figure appeared in front of me.
A black umbrella opened above my head. The person didn't say anything, just quietly looked down at me.
I looked up, and the moment I saw his face clearly, I couldn't help but tear up.
Why was he here?
The person standing in front of me right now was Jason.
From the moment of the crash, all the grievances I'd been suppressing suddenly burst out.
I instinctively clenched my fists, and even though I knew Jason would be annoyed or even disgusted with me, I still stared straight at him.
If this were before, I would have thrown myself into Kean's arms and told him all about my troubles.
But I couldn't do that now.
Controlling my emotions at this moment was already the limit of what I could do.
Jason didn't speak, just silently looked at me.
The man's cursing seemed to fade further and further away.
I tried several times to open my mouth and say something to him.
But what should I say? Long time no see?
We just saw each other a few days ago. Why are you here?
Even if I asked, Jason definitely wouldn't answer. More likely, he'd just mock and humiliate me.
My lips opened and closed, but in the end, I still couldn't say anything.
Jason moved at this moment.
He took two steps forward with his long legs, stretched out his arm, and actually pulled me into his arms!
That familiar warmth, carved into my soul, came over me, and my body trembled uncontrollably.
"You..." I had just squeezed out one word when Jason held me even tighter.
I seemed to hear a soft sigh by my ear. The next moment, Jason loosened his hold a little.
A wave of undeniable disappointment flashed through my heart.
"Are you hurt?" Jason asked.
I slowly shook my head. "No."
A cold wind blew by, making me shiver uncontrollably.
Jason frowned, reached out, and took off his coat to put it on me.
His familiar body temperature wrapped around me with an unfamiliar scent.
"Get back in the car first." After saying this, Jason picked me up.
I almost cried out in surprise, looking at Jason with shock and uncertainty.
The car lights shining from a distance became even more hazy, blocked by the rain, casting on Jason's handsome profile, making him look even colder, and more elegant.
I stared at him, unable to say anything for a moment.
Just then, for an instant, I seemed to see Kean.
The car door opened, and Jason put me inside. "Wait here for me. I'll handle the rest."
"Wait." I quickly grabbed the corner of his clothes.
Meeting Jason's confused gaze, I bit my lip and still forced myself to speak, "Jessica is still in the car."
"I'll bring her over, too." Jason nodded and walked toward Jessica with big steps.
Watching Jason's back, I instinctively reached out my hand, then curled my fingers back.
