Chapter 163 The Truth Revealed! It Was Victoria Who Awakened Zachary
On that day, Carter, Alison, and Melissa were summoned to the villa.
They were uneasy, unable to fathom Zachary's intentions.
Alison, however, exuded confidence, suggesting. "Zachary must have remembered Yara's kindness and wants to reward us, perhaps with a substantial sum of money."
Her composure belied the fact that she had lost her daughter only six months ago.
Carter scolded her, "You are utterly foolish, blinded by money!"
Before Alison could retort, Secretary Thomas descended the stairs, and Alison quickly put on a smile. "Secretary Thomas, it's rare that Zachary still remembers us. We are truly grateful!"
Secretary Thomas's demeanor had changed.
In a cold tone, she said, "Zachary is waiting for you in the study."
Carter, Alison, and Melissa felt a pang of unease. Even Alison's confidence wavered. As they went upstairs, Alison pushed Melissa and whispered, "Be mindful of the atmosphere later, and remember how I've treated you."
Melissa felt afraid.
She had a hunch that it had something to do with the film she had given. She knew she was in trouble, but she dared not speak up. In the blink of an eye, Carter, Alison, and Melissa followed Secretary Thomas upstairs.
The study was filled with the unpleasant smell of cigarettes.
Alison waved her hand, her voice sharp and piercing. "Secretary Thomas, is this the way you take care of Zachary? Can this place even accommodate people?"
Secretary Thomas sneered.
Zachary sat on the sofa, still in his well-groomed attire, not even removing his tie. He looked down at his cigarette, his voice low. "Why did you let Yara impersonate Victoria back then?"
Yara's parents were stunned.
Melissa was also taken aback. 'What impersonation?' She was confused.
There was a long silence in the study. Alison's voice turned sharp. "Zachary, you must be fair in your words and actions. You can't say such things just because Yara is dead. We won't accept it."
"Is it unfair?"
Zachary threw a film in front of her. "This is Yara's performance of 'Meditation,' which is incomparable to what you stole back then!"
Alison wanted to argue, but Carter started to scold her, "I have said that we shouldn't have done such despicable things. You insisted on supporting Yara, and in the end, she died, and our reputation was ruined. You made me feel embarrassed."
Alison retorted, "Everything I did was all for Yara and this family!"
They argued fiercely.
"Enough!" Zachary's voice was light but weary. "I don't want to ask for details anymore. I called you here to inform you of three things. First, return all the assets I gave you. Second, dig up Yara's ashes and take them away. She is not allowed to be buried in Redwater. Third, you disappear and never appear in front of me again."
Alison collapsed directly to the ground. "Zachary, you can't be so ruthless."
Zachary's face was expressionless. "You still have one choice, which is to go to jail!"
Alison sat on the ground and cried, wanting to plead with him. "We were planning to use that money for our retirement. Zachary, if you take it away, how will Carter and I live in the future? Melissa, please beg Zachary. Didn't you say he likes you a lot?"
Melissa was in extreme embarrassment.
She realized that she was nothing to Zachary and his care for Yara before was only because she had impersonated Victoria.
She, feeling extremely shameless, supported Alison and said, "It was our fault."
A slap landed hard on her face!
Alison's words to Melissa were harsh.
Zachary had no interest in that. He got up and walked out of the study, followed by Secretary Thomas. "I will handle this matter!"
Under the crystal chandelier, Zachary's face was expressionless. "Just spare their lives! Anything else is up to you."
Secretary Thomas hesitated for a moment, then she nodded.
She watched Zachary go downstairs, and after a while, the sound of a car starting came from the courtyard. She knew Zachary was going to pick up Victoria.
Tears welled up in her eyes as Victoria was finally coming back.
On Christmas Eve, the earth was covered with snow.
The black Land Rover slowly made its way through the snow, taking a long time to reach the private villa, still with its red brick walls, standing in the darkness like a specter.
Zachary drove in, and there were almost no footprints in the yard, just thick piles of snow.
Zachary sensed something, feeling very uneasy.
When he got out of the car, he suddenly stumbled and actually knelt on the snow. The snow quickly melted, wetting his pants, and the coldness pressed against his skin, causing a piercing pain.
He staggered into the villa.
There was another door in the hallway, which was locked.
The food he had someone send to Victoria was mostly eaten, with a few scattered pieces left on the table, along with Joseph's photos.
Those people he hired at high salaries were now toasting by the electric stove and playing cards. The food he had sent was eaten by them.
Seeing Zachary, they panicked. "Zachary, tonight is Christmas, so."
Zachary's voice was cold. "Open this door."
Those people wanted to argue, but Zachary kicked over their card table. He gritted his teeth, repeating, "Open the door!"
One of them went to open the door and whispered, "This was all arranged by Mrs. Sackler; we didn't dare to act on our own."
Zachary kicked him down the stairs.
The man screamed, breaking two ribs.
Zachary walked into the dark corridor, reaching out to turn on the lights.
The lights didn't come on.
The second floor's power was all cut off, and a window in the middle of the stairs was left open, letting in the cold north wind.
Zachary clenched his fists.
His face was so tense that it was almost contorted. He quickly walked upstairs and pushed open the door to the bedroom with trembling hands.
There was no electricity, no heating, not even a cup of hot water.
There was only a cold hamburger on the small table, which was all the food Victoria had today.
She huddled in the corner, almost unrecognizably thin in just half a month.
The door creaked open.
Victoria saw a tall figure walking in at the door. It was Zachary, who was calling her name softly.
His voice sounded very anxious as if he was deeply in love.
But it was he who sent her here.
Did he forget?
Zachary walked to Victoria's side; he squatted down to look at her and reached out to gently touch her face.
Victoria was startled.
She reflexively called Joseph's name; she had been calling out, "Joseph."
Zachary's heart was about to break, and he whispered an apology.
He held her delicate wrist and tried to pull her up, but every time he pulled her, she would cry out in pain.
Zachary felt that something was wrong.
He rolled up Victoria's sleeve, and the next second, his black eyes narrowed. On her thin, bony arm, there were countless needle marks.
Zachary, who had studied medicine, knew what was injected.
It was a sedative!
His mother wanted to kill his wife in this villa.
Zachary wanted to cry, his voice almost trembling. "Come home with me, Victoria, I'll cure you."
Victoria looked at him, her eyes devoid of any luster.
She was just depressed before, but for the past half month, she had been tortured to mental disorder.
