Chapter 158 He returned home to find Victoria lying quietly in bed.
In the early hours, Zachary's car parked in front of an apartment building.
The ground was blanketed in snow.
Melissa, waiting anxiously downstairs, rushed to him, her voice trembling. "Zachary, I was so scared! Caitlin took four sleeping pills, and I thought she was in danger."
Zachary closed the car door, his gaze on the distressed girl in his arms. He gently pushed her away, asking, "Is she okay now?"
Melissa, with teary eyes, replied, "Her family is here comforting her. We'd better not go to the dormitory to see her."
She felt shy and uneasy after saying that.
Just then, Zachary opened the passenger door, his tone emotionless. "Get in."
Melissa couldn't read his mind. He came for her, yet he pushed her away.
Now, he was letting her in.
It was said that only a man's wife or girlfriend could sit in the passenger seat. Was Zachary confirming her position?
Melissa, thrilled, cautiously got into the car.
Zachary started the car, lit a cigarette, and leaned back, the smoke filling the air.
Melissa found him alluring when he was smoking, feeling a tinge of shyness.
She waited, but Zachary remained silent, not even looking at her.
She couldn't help but feel a sense of loss.
Outside, snowflakes fell gently on the Bentley, creating a serene scene.
Suddenly, Zachary thought of the nearby Emerald Valley and its snow-covered landscape.
Perhaps he was reminded of Victoria, his face deepening with allure.
Unable to resist, Melissa softly called out, "Zachary."
He extinguished the cigarette, his voice husky. "What is it?"
His words held a certain charm, captivating her.
She felt too shy to speak.
After a while, she murmured, "The smoke is a bit strong." Zachary turned on the wipers, clearing the snow from the windshield, and then smiled faintly. "I'll stop smoking then."
Melissa, completely enchanted by his charm, sat in the car for a long time.
They sat in the car for a long time.
At 3 a.m., Caitlin's parents took her downstairs and headed for the hospital.
Zachary opened the car door. The luxurious car left Caitlin's parents speechless as they had never seen such a fine car in their rural life, nor had they encountered someone as respectable as Zachary.
They got in the car cautiously.
On the way to the hospital, Melissa, lively and warm, kept comforting Caitlin's family. Caitlin's father expressed his gratitude, saying, "Thanks to Zachary! Is Zachary Melissa's boyfriend? He's truly outstanding!"
Melissa blushed and remained silent.
Zachary, his tone cold, explained, "I am her boss."
'Her boss.' They thought.
The backseat fell silent.
Melissa felt a mix of disappointment as Zachary didn't acknowledge her identity, but she couldn't help but hope.
She felt lost one moment and sweet the next, which was truly contradictory.
After Zachary dropped off the family at the hospital, he was about to leave.
Just as he opened the car door and was about to get in, Melissa couldn't help but hug him, her voice hoarse. "Zachary, I like you!"
Zachary didn't push her away immediately.
He looked at her, memories of Victoria flooding his mind.
Melissa's actions reminded him of a younger Victoria, who had once embraced him and said, "Zachary, I like you. Will you be my boyfriend? I have so many good qualities!"
But she couldn't count them all.
After a while, Zachary came back to his senses, pushed the young girl away, and said expressionlessly, "I am a married man."
Being rejected, Melissa felt embarrassed and whispered, "I didn't mean to overstep! I won't disrupt your family, and I won't ask for much like Victoria. I am easily satisfied."
Just like tonight, an occasional company from him could make her content.
Zachary, aware of the young girl's thoughts, could have chosen not to come tonight, but he did.
However, Melissa's words made him feel indifferent.
Zachary ignored her and got into the car.
As he closed the door, Melissa held onto it, her trembling lips betraying her embarrassment. "Zachary, I will find that film for you as soon as possible. Please rest assured."
Zachary nodded composedly and drove away.
Halfway through the journey, he noticed a cup of Starbucks coffee beside him with a cute sticker on it. It was still warm, bought by Melissa.
Zachary smiled as he had no interested in it.
Zachary returned to the villa at 6 a.m.
The snow had stopped, but a thick layer covered the ground.
The servants were busy clearing the snow, trying to create a path.
Seeing Zachary's return, one of them greeted, "Mr.Zachary is back."
Zachary took off his coat and asked, "Has Victoria woken up? Did Joseph have any tantrums last night?"
The servant replied, "Victoria hasn't woken up yet! Joseph slept soundly all night. He is probably still sleeping now as babies at this age need sleep the most, which is essential for their growth!"
Zachary smiled faintly.
He climbed the stairs, and his mood was generally good.
As he pushed open the bedroom door, he thought that Victoria probably wouldn't mind his absence as she often treated him coldly.
The bedroom was dim and quiet.
Victoria was still asleep, but Joseph was awake.
The little one looked around with big, innocent eyes, incredibly adorable.
Zachary leaned down to kiss him and changed his diaper.Joseph's little mouth was open, a clear sign that he was hungry and wanted milk. Zachary carried him to prepare the formula.
However, as Joseph had been eating more recently, he didn't know how much he drank. So, he turned his back to Victoria and asked, "How much has she been drinking lately? Is 120ml enough?"
There was no response behind him.
Zachary asked again, "Victoria?" Still, there was silence behind him.
Zachary blinked, suddenly remembering the small bottle rolling on the floor when he came in. He thought it was one of Joseph's toys.
He slowly put down the bottle and placed Joseph back in the crib.
Joseph immediately started crying, his voice echoing.
Zachary paid no attention.
He walked step by step to the bedside, leaned over, and turned on the light. He saw Victoria lying quietly in bed, her face pale, devoid of any color, and two scattered sleeping pills in her palm.
"Victoria!" Zachary's voice trembled, and he gently patted her face, but Victoria remained silent.
This time, she didn't even leave him with her usual indifference.
