Debra woke up at the hospital a couple of hours later to see Edward right next to her. "The babies?" She asked weakly.
Edward stood up. "They're fine, darling. How are you feeling?"
"Tired. What happened?"
"You lost a lot of blood and passed out, but you're going to be fine."
"Edward, hold me for a minute."
Edward sat down on the bed next to her and pulled her close. "I was so worried darling."
She laid against Edward for a few minutes. "I want to see my babies. I need to hold them."
Edward let her go. "I'll go tell the nurse." He leaned down and kissed her. "I love you."
"I love you. Has the rest of the family gotten here yet?"
"Marcus followed us in, but the rest of them are on their way. Marcus was so worried about you."
"Let him in to see me before they bring the babies."
"Ok." Edward got up and walked around the bed. He walked out of the room.
Marcus came in a minute later and over to the bed. "How are you feeling, sis?"
"I'm tired, but I'm fine."
"That's good. I was so worried about you. When you came out of the office and unconscious I almost lost it."
"I have a way of scaring people, but I always come out on top." Debra smiled. "I'm stronger than I look."
"I'm starting to realize that."
"Have you seen the babies?"
"I saw them through the window. They are beautiful."
"Thank you, Marcus. I know I don't give you as much respect as Ace and the rest of them, but that doesn't mean that you don't have a special place in my heart."
"You have known me for two months. I don't expect anything more than you give me." Marcus said. "Are you talking about the names for the babies? I think Blaine Thomas and Courtney Rose are beautiful names."
"How did you know their names?"
"I pulled it out of Edward a few weeks back when we were looking at the livestock." Marcus said. "It doesn't bother me that you named them after your mother and Edward's family. Little things like that don't bother me."
"I should have told you."
"You had other things on your mind." Marcus said. "I'm just glad we found each other after all these years. I wish I knew you were alive when we were younger."
"Well, we know each other now and that's what matters."
"I know." Marcus said. "I'm sure you're anxious to see your babies, so I'll let you enjoy them by yourselves. I'll wait for the rest of the family in the waiting room." He said then kissed her forehead.
"You don't have to leave."
"You and Edward should have a moment alone with your children. I can wait for a little while."
"Thanks Marcus." Debra said.
"No problem." He walked out.
Debra waited a few minutes before the doctor and Edward walked in. "How are you feeling, Debra?"
"I'm tired, but that's about it."
"When you pushed, you ruptured some blood vessels and it caused you to bleed which caused you to pass out. I was able to stop the bleeding until we got to the hospital and repaired it. No damage was done and you'll make a full recovery."
"That's good to hear."
"The nurses are getting your twins ready to come in. It's almost time to feed them, so they will help you if you need it."
"I think we can handle it."
"All right. I will check on you later then. Congratulations."
"Thank you, Dr. Brooks."
"You're welcome." Dr. Brooks said then left the room.
Edward walked around the bed and sat down at the foot of the bed. "Where did Marcus go?"
"He went back out to the waiting room so we could have some time with the twins alone." Debra said. "He's going to wait for the rest of the family."
"All right. I haven't held them yet. They asked if I wanted to but I said you should be the first to hold then."
"They are our children, Edward. You could have held them."
"I was there when they did what they needed to do to them. They are so small." Edward said as he pulled out his phone. "I have pictures if you want to see them."
"I can wait until I see them in person." Debra said.
Two nurses wheeled two carts with beds on them with the twins. "Here's your babies, Debra." One nurse said. "Do you want both of them?"
"Yes. I want to hold them both at the same time to look at them."
"All right." The nurse said. The two nurses picked up the twins and handed them both to Debra, one in each arm. "Do you need any help with the feeding?"
"No, I think we can handle it, thanks."
"They have formula and diapers under their beds. If you need anything just call with the call button."
"We will. Thank you." Edward said. He took a couple of pictures of Debra with the twins after the nurses left. "They are so adorable."
"I can't believe they are finally here."
"You can believe it." Edward said. "They look just like you."
"I'm glad about that." Debra said. "Do you want to hold them, daddy?"
"Maybe just one at a time." Edward got up and took Blaine from Debra. He carefully cradled him in his arm. "They are so small."
"Yes, they are, but they will grow fast."
"I know." Edward said. They held the twins for a few minutes before they woke up and started fussing for food. "I'll get the bottles ready if you hold him." He said as he handed Blaine back to Debra. He went to the cribs and got bottles out of the bottom. He got them ready and got out burp cloths. He set them on the bed. "Can I feed Courtney Rose?"
"Of course you can." Debra said. Edward took the baby and sat down on the chair. They started feeding them.
Edward looked at his phone while he burped the baby. "The gang is all here." He said.
"Tell them to come back."
"All of them?"
"Sure. Why wait?" Debra asked. "We are all family."
"Ok. After little Courtney burps." Edward said as he patted the baby's back. After a few moments, she let out a burp. "That was a good one."
"Yes it was." Debra said. "Have you talked to Joe to see how Misty and her colts are doing?"
"Yes. She's doing fine. She's taking care of her colts just fine."
"Good." Debra said. "Send in the family. There is reason to keep them waiting any longer."
"All right." Edward said then texted on his phone. "They are on the way."
A moment later the rest of the family came in. They hugged Debra and shook Edward's hand. Then turned their attention to the twins. Edward took pictures on his phone as they took turns holding them. They all visited for a while before they decided to go home. Jared called Edward out to the hall before they left.
Edward came back in the room a moment later. Debra sat up. "What was that about."
"There was some calls at home about Misty's twins. A couple of magazines want to do an interview and an article about them."
"That's good."
"I told Jared to tell them that we'll do them in a couple days." Edward said. "You should be there. She's your horse."
"All right. Are they all right?" Debra motioned to the twins.
Edward checked on both the twins. "Yes. They are both sleeping."
"Good. I think I am going to close my eyes and rest."
"I'll keep an eye on them. You rest."
"Thank you." Debra said then closed her eyes.
Debra woke up a couple hours later. Edward was sleeping in the chair. Debra looked over at the twins and saw they were still sleeping. She elevated her head a little. Edward woke up. "Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you."
Edward stood up and stretched. "It's all right. Are you feeling better?"
"A little."
"Good. I love you, darling."
"I love you. Did the doctor say how long I was going to stay here?"
"Probably a couple of days."
"Really? Because I want to go home."
"I know, but we need to make sure you and the twins are healthy enough."
"I know. I just hate to be away from the ranch."
"The ranch will be fine without us for a couple days. It's not going anywhere and everyone is taking care of everything."
"I know."
"You know that it's going to be fine, but you still worry, don't you?"
"Of course. I want to spend the rest of my life there raising our children, at least a couple more after this, making memories and learning more each day."
"I want that too, but we can't stay on the ranch all the time."
"I know. I just hate hospitals. I always have."
"So do I, but you shouldn't rush things."
"I'll try. Has the storm ended?"
"It slowed down, but it's still snowing." Edward said and opened up the blinds.
"It's beautiful and I'm stuck here."
"There's plenty more to look forward to when you get out of here. I'll hook up the sleigh and horses and take you for a ride."
"A sleigh?"
"Yes, just like the one we had on our wedding just with skids. We use it all the time is the winter."
"See, I learn something all the time."
Edward walked over and sat down on the side of the bed. He took Debra's hand in his. "Darling, you will learn everything about our ranch as we go and I will enjoy teaching you so much. I love you, darling."
"I love you, too."
"There is nothing to stop you from doing what you dream to do. And I will be there next to you every step of the way."
"I wouldn't want it any other way."
"Good. And I also want you to know that I will take care of you and the twins and any other children we have together. We will have nothing to worry about."
"I would rather we took care of each other. You should know by now, I can take care of myself mostly, but we make a pretty good team."
"Yes we do." Edward leaned forward and hugged Debra. They held each other for a few moments before one of the twins started fussing. Edward pulled back. "Do you think they know we are having a moment?"
"They only know food and diapers right now." Debra said. "I would get up, but I kind of can't."
"I got it, darling. Don't worry." Edward said then got off the bed. He got the bottles ready and then diapers. "Should I change them before we feed them?"
"It might be easier to change them in there."
"Ok. I'll change them then you can start feeding."
"Are you sure you can handle it?"
"I watched the nurses when they did it when we came in. I think I can handle it."
"All right." Debra said. "I'm right here if you need me."
Edward unwrapped Blaine and started to change his diaper. Debra gave him some tips and he got him changed. He wrapped him back up in the blanket then moved to Courtney. He started changing her diaper. "Is it wrong for me to feel weird changing her diaper?"
"Don't feel weird. It's perfectly fine for a dad to change his newborn daughter."
"I guess it's because there aren't any girls in the family." Edward said then finished changing Courtney. He wrapped her back in the blanket and handed her to Debra.
Dr. Brooks came in and checked Debra out after lunch. He helped her out of bed and move to the chair. "So, Dr. Brooks, when can I get out of here?"
"Debra, you just gave birth a couple hours ago. You need to let your body rest and to heal."
"It can rest and heal at home."
"If you do good, I'll release you tomorrow. I don't know about your twins. They are healthy and doing good, but their doctor has that call. We'll get you out of here as fast as we can."
"All right. I guess I don't have much of a choice."
"It's all part of giving birth."
"Thank you, Dr. Brooks. For everything you've done throughout this pregnancy. I know we were a little difficult at times."
"You haven't been as difficult as you think. It was my pleasure to have you as a patient. It got me out of the hospital."
"How long do you think until I can ride?"
"At least a couple weeks."
"All right, doc."
"Well, you take it easy and rest when they are sleeping."
"I will." Debra said. Dr. Brooks walked out.
A few minutes later, Edward came in. "Oh, you're out of bed."
"Yes."
"I need to go back to the ranch for a little while. It seems like the story of Misty's twins got out and the local media wants a piece of it. I thought they could wait, but they are camping out at the gate."
"Oh. You need to handle it. I'm all right here."
"I asked Marcus to stay to help you if you need it."
"You didn't have to. I'm sure the nurses would help."
"I already did. He was right down the street."
"Ok. Be careful."
"I will." Edward said the kissed Debra. "I love you, darling."
"I love you." Debra said. "Tell Misty that I'm fine and that I will see her soon."
"I will." Edward said then walked out.
Marcus came in a short while later and stayed with Debra during the afternoon until Edward returned. The twins were sleeping when they brought in Debra's dinner, so she ate what she could. Edward turned on the local news and sat down on the bed next to Debra. They sat and watched the news until after the segment on Misty and Debra.
"You looked good on television." Debra said. "You did a good job."
"They wanted to talk to you until I told them you gave birth too."
"Well, you did good."
"You did the greatest job today. I will never forget this day."
"I hope not. It's our children's birthday."
"I know that, but all the events that happened."
"I don't think any of us will forget this day. It's a story that will last generations."
"Yes and especially with the news and how the magazines want to do stories."
"Yes. That's something to look forward to."
"I put it off for a couple days. I think the vet leaked the story."
"Do you blame him? He helped deliver twin horses. It doesn't happen often."
"I know." Edward said. "I don't blame him. He needs recognition."
"I think we all did a great job. I could have never done this without you."
"That makes two of us." Edward said and kissed her.
