Chapter 280
Chapter 280
Gavin said, "I don't have time to mess around with women right now. And I've got some bad news for you—Victoria's desperate to find you. Must be something important, because she even called me. You gonna see her or not?"
Hearing Victoria's name, all of Zephyr's lustful thoughts evaporated, leaving only pure irritation. "Why won't she just leave me alone? I don't want to see her. Tell her I'm on a business trip."
Gavin's suspicion was confirmed—these two had definitely hit a breaking point.
He thought for a moment, then tried to reason with him. "Zephyr, I don't know what went down between you and Victoria, and honestly, I don't care to ask. And sure, if you don't want to be with her anymore, that's your call. But I need to remind you of one thing—the Harbor Village project is the most promising deal in Emerald City for the next three years. I haven't had a full night's sleep in almost a month because of it. So even if you're ready to blow things up with Victoria, I'm not letting you do it now. You hold it together until we close this deal. Got it?"
Gavin's words hit home. Zephyr waved off the girl in his arms and headed somewhere quieter to vent. "Of course I get it. If I had a choice, I wouldn't want to blow things up with her either! But you have no idea how unreasonable she's being!"
He proceeded to tell Gavin about Victoria's recent tantrums and irrational moods, then asked, "What am I supposed to do? Just thinking about spending the rest of my life with a woman like that makes my head explode!"
Gavin stayed level-headed. "From where I'm standing, all women are like that. Unless you never let them have kids, once they become mothers, they all turn into shrews. But if you're really done with Victoria, I'm not gonna force you to throw your life away. Just humor her a little longer. Deal?"
At this point, Zephyr knew he had to compromise. "Fine, fine. For your sake, I'll suffer through this a while longer. I'll go find her now."
Gavin's tone turned dry. "Don't act like you're doing me a favor. Victoria's still the Brown Group heiress. Even if she's gotten older and put on weight, she's still got some looks. You're making it sound like torture."
Zephyr said, "She could be perfect, but I've been sleeping with her for five years—how could I not be bored? Hey, if you're interested, I could set you two up?"
He just said whatever came to mind, mostly because he didn't treat Gavin like an outsider. But Gavin didn't appreciate it. "You want to hand off your son's mother to me? No thanks, I'm not taking your leftovers! Just wait at the bar. I'll tell her where you are—I did promise her, after all."
Zephyr chuckled. "And you say you're not interested? You're already trying to impress her..."
Before he could finish, Gavin hung up on him.
Armed with the address, Victoria stormed to the bar in twenty minutes.
Zephyr had already moved to a private room on the second floor. He'd taken a shower, changed clothes, and was waiting for her, fresh and clean.
Victoria had originally planned to discuss business with Zephyr, but once she stepped into the bar and saw all those men and women grinding against each other, she felt like she was here to catch him cheating. Unable to hold back, she kicked open the door to the second-floor room.
Zephyr had just finished psyching himself up, thinking about how to make nice with Victoria and cheer her up. Instead, she charged at him like an enraged lioness.
"Zephyr! What the hell were you doing just now?"
Good thing Zephyr had recently started working out again and was in better shape—otherwise Victoria's tackle would've slammed him into the wall.
He steadied her shoulder with one hand and placed the other on her head. Honestly, in that moment, he wanted nothing more than to grab her by the hair and tell her to stop acting crazy. But reason told him he couldn't do that.
"I was thinking about you. I've been thinking about you the whole time."
As a seasoned player, even when facing a woman he didn't particularly like, Zephyr's sweet talk came effortlessly.
Victoria didn't believe him. She tried to hit him again, cursing under her breath.
Zephyr swallowed his anger and shot a look at the server standing frozen outside. The guy finally snapped out of it, quickly closed the door, and hurried away.
Once they were alone, Zephyr pushed Victoria down onto the coffee table and kissed her hard on the lips.
At first, Victoria tried to resist, but she wasn't strong enough to fight him off. And she wasn't resisting with her whole heart either. Soon enough, she melted under Zephyr's skilled kisses...
When Victoria finally came to her senses, she realized she'd just had sex with Zephyr in some stranger's bar room!
Even though they'd had wild encounters before, this was the first time in a place like this. Victoria felt uncomfortable and still refused to give him a friendly look.
But Zephyr pulled her firmly into his arms and said lazily, "How many times do I need to make it up to you before you're satisfied? Trying to drain me dry?"
Victoria's face flushed. The way he put it made her sound desperate and indecent.
She pushed Zephyr away, straightened her clothes, and said seriously, "I came here to talk business with you."
Zephyr instinctively frowned.
After Victoria's recent outbursts, his impression of her had solidified—she was an unambitious woman who only knew how to be jealous. What kind of business could she possibly have to discuss with him?
Zephyr wanted to refuse, but he didn't want another fight. So he leaned back, stuck out his abs, and grinned. "Sure, we can do business. Come on up!"
Victoria was speechless.
She grabbed a throw pillow and smacked him with it. "Can you be serious for once? I mean it! You have to work with me on this!"
Zephyr felt a headache coming on. She was starting to strong-arm him, which meant this 'business' was definitely bad news.
But Victoria was done wasting words. She leaned close to his ear and laid out her plan.
Zephyr's expression started out reluctant, but the more he listened, the more his brow relaxed. By the end, he looked genuinely puzzled. Could Victoria really have come up with this idea? He thought it, then said it out loud.
Victoria lifted her chin. "What's that supposed to mean? Why couldn't I come up with something like this?"
Zephyr thought for a moment, then pulled Victoria into his arms by the elbow.
By now he'd figured it out—lust clouding judgment wasn't just a male problem. For some women, like Victoria, it applied just as well.
Once their skin touched, he asked, "Are you really brave enough to go through with this?"
