Chapter 74: The Problem With Noah
SEBASTIAN.
As soon as I linked with my sister, I was transported to a completely different world, and her discoveries were so unbelievable that I felt the room spinning. What she was telling me was very serious.
“What do you mean Luana Antonov does not exist?” I insisted even though I had heard loud and clear what she had just said.
Anger rose in my veins, and my blood was boiling inside me. I’ve always had a doubt about her, but I never imagined this.
“I mean, her name doesn’t appear anywhere in our records. She is a werewolf, but she does not come from Romania and neither is the pack of which she said she was part. The Gray Moon does not exist and never existed. This woman shamelessly lied to you. How advanced are you with the new serum, Bash?” Vicky asked curiously, although her question had a different meaning and I knew very well what my sister was thinking because I was thinking the same thing.
Luana’s betrayal could have spread far beyond that, especially since she had access to modern technology and ingredients that could be used easily as a weapon, but against us.
“I stopped making the serum that hurt Teresa and I ordered the creation of a new one with other properties. More precisely, one that would destroy the beasts that attacked us.”
Right then, I had a revelation. My voice cracked, and millions of more and more serious thoughts crossed my head. “God, this woman can create mixtures right now that could lead to our extinction. It was Liam himself who caught her in an awkward position in the lab.”
This thought made me shiver all over. “I don’t know what she has in mind, but we must stop her at any cost. You won’t believe it. She brought her son Noah into the company to help her discover an additional element that is the basis of the new serum, or so she says. “
“Perfect, keep an eye on them. Do nothing to expose the fact that you found out and that you have suspicions about her. Keep your enemies close, Bash!” Vicky concluded, and with that, she ended the connection.
Maybe she was right. Maybe Noah’s coming wasn’t so inopportune.
“Exactly what we expected to happen happened, Liam!” I continued the conversation with my cousin. “This discovery will be the beginning of a period in which we will have to be vigilant, not to allow any error, and what is most important under no circumstances, Luana must not be overlooked.”
“Agree! Have you thought about any approach?”
“Not yet. We will do everything as if nothing had happened, and we would not have found out anything. We will keep it low. I don’t want to warn her. Imagine, the name Luana Antonov does not exist, the pack of which she said she is a part. The Gray Moon does not exist, her Romanian origins do not exist.” I said it all in one breath, hitting the desk with my palms.
I could feel the fire rising and burning inside me again, and my wolf was getting more and more agitated. I let the enemy enter our lives without realizing it, and now I had to keep her close to find out about her every move.
“What do you think of this whole new ingredient story? Do you think there is such a thing? “Liam continued in a low voice, getting closer to me.
“This is exactly what worries me that such an ingredient really exists, but instead of using it for our benefit, she will use it totally inappropriately. That’s why she slipped her son in here. Be vigilant, Liam, and try not to lose sight of her. I’ll try to talk to Teresa. I hope she doesn’t burst when I’ll talk about her friend Noah and his intentions.“
Our meeting ended for the moment and as I had established Liam began a shadow pursuit operation, as he liked to call it. Before leaving the office, I asked him not to involve Amelia.
There was no need to put her life in danger. Amelia was a strong, jumping person and she would definitely have helped us if we had explained the situation to her, so we decided to do everything secretly for now. My mother won’t know right now, either. It would be great if Vicky could host her for a few days until the danger passed.
The hardest part now was talking to Teresa and convincing her she was wrong if she trusted Noah. Maybe she didn’t even know that he had joined the company and was working for genetic now. Damn this suspicion! I didn’t know why I had this feeling that the news would thrill her.
Just as I expected, Teresa was home and alone. It was the perfect time to have a discussion and it would be good to listen to me! It looked like my mother had gone to Amelia’s and Caroline was still with Erik.
I felt her scent right from the entrance; she was in her room. I knocked with confidence in my persuasive power. Her warm voice invited me inside, and I was sure she already knew it was me. I hoped we didn’t have a new quarrel. I was counting on her understanding.
“Can I come in?” I still tried from the door to make my entrance in a way as pleasant as possible.
Already the wolf in me got agitated only when he smelled her delicious aroma of vanilla and the alluring scent of lavender in her soft hair. Get it together, wolf! There is no place or time for such a thing!
“You’re already in, so it doesn’t matter if I allow you or not!”
Oops, the first sting. Come on Bash, I know you can do this! I advanced into the room and, to my surprise, Teresa did not position herself on the defensive, but she was very indifferent.
She looked at me for a few seconds, then turned to face the window, admiring the garden behind the house. “What do you want?” she asked eventually in a cold, dry tone. This felt like knives shoved deep into my heart. “I guess you have a good reason to have the courage to come to me after all you’ve done!”
Word after word she would hurt me more, but I couldn’t say that I didn’t do it too on various occasions, so she had every right to address me like that. But the time was short to carry on with our little quarrels.
“I will go straight to the point, then. Your friend Noah has just joined GenetiX, and he is Luana Antonov’s son, our researcher!” I dropped the bomb and waited for her reaction. It didn’t take long, and she looked at me again.
“I was aware of that. He just called me and gave me the splendid news!” she explained nonchalantly, putting her hands on her hips and turning her back to the window again.
I really didn’t expect that. He must have called her on my way here. This guy doesn’t waste any moment. Then I realized Teresa found this news to be wonderful. I was still keeping my wolf at bay, as he was trying to teach her a lesson for trusting that guy.
“Splendid news? What do you mean? You know very well that this specimen is not exactly to my liking!” I suddenly snapped, taking a few steps towards her.
“Who cares who is and who is not to your liking, Sebastian? Since when do you consult with me about the decisions you make? I will tell you, since never. So, I don’t see the real problem in Noah, do you?” she shouted in a slightly angrier tone than I did.
I didn’t want to go crazy, but Teresa didn’t make things easy for me, either. I suppressed my impulses and swallowed the following words that wanted to come out of my mouth, as they were not very pleasant.
I had to keep reminding myself that the person in front of me was Teresa, the woman I loved dearly, who was currently lost in a moment of vulnerability, fueled by her naïve nature. She probably heard my teeth chatter, but that didn’t intimidate her either.
She just turned her back on me again, as if even more indifferent. I felt like the little calm I still had got lost and the irritation and inability to make her understand that this attitude would not help her at all intervened. On the contrary, it will endanger her life.
I crossed through my moment of rage and took another step towards her, forcing her to turn to face me. Her enormous eyes looked at me in amazement, and she was waiting for me to burst. That’s what I did.
“You don’t see the problem with Noah, do you? I will tell you what the problem is! The problem is that his so-called mother does not exist, Luana Antonov does not exist, she is not originally from Romania as she claimed at the congress and what do you know, not even the pack she said she was part of, The Gray Moon does not exist! It’s all a lie, so what makes you think your friend Noah isn’t a big lie, too?”
