Chapter 63 Chapter 63: Kelly's Miscarriage
The truth was, Selena was the daughter-in-law Mrs. Winchester favored most in all her years. If Selena hadn’t schemed against her son, Mrs. Winchester would have looked past her background. But now…
Balthazar felt a headache coming on from his mother and sister. At the moment, he couldn’t reveal the truth about Selena’s identity to them, so he could only sigh helplessly and say:
"Selena is an honorable woman. She genuinely cares for you, Sophia, and little Jason. She approached me not with any malicious intent but simply because she needed support.”
Mrs. Winchester had never truly believed that Selena was a bad person, so she felt somewhat swayed. Only Sophia remained furious, as she had sincerely considered Selena a friend, only to be blatantly used. How could she not be outraged?
Having said everything he could, Balthazar stood up and left for work at the high-rise building.

Having been tormented by Balthazar all night, Selena didn’t wake up until nine. She lay in bed, staring blankly at the ceiling for a long while before sighing and getting up to wash her face and change.
Once she was done, she sat on the bed, feeling lost. She didn’t know what to do next, her mind was blank. If she were still living at Mrs. Winchester’s house, she would probably be having breakfast with her and little Jason by now.

The phone rang. Selena picked it up and saw an unfamiliar number. She was about to hang up but, for some inexplicable reason, she answered the call.
Just as she was about to end the call, a woman's voice came through:
“Is this a relative of the patient Kelly?”
Upon hearing the word "patient," Selena’s heart began to race, and she quickly responded:
“Yes, how is Kelly Carter?”
“Madam Kelly Carter was in a car accident. When she was brought to the hospital, we discovered significant bleeding from the lower abdomen. She is currently in surgery, and we need a family member to complete the paperwork. She gave us your phone number.
Upon hearing this, Selena hastily responded and then hung up the phone, hailing a taxi to rush to the hospital the caller had mentioned.
When Selena arrived, the light outside the operating room had just gone out. Seeing the doctor come out, she hurriedly asked:
“Doctor, how is the patient inside?”
The doctor replied:
"Her life is no longer in danger, but the baby has been lost. My condolences to the family.
The doctor, seeing that there were no further questions, walked away.
Selena slumped onto the bench in the hallway. The resilient little one had ultimately not survived, leaving this world. Was it because of her that Kelly had the accident?
The events of the party, combined with Kelly’s miscarriage, had left Selena mentally exhausted.
After sitting in a daze on the bench for a long time, Selena exhaled deeply, stood up, and walked to Kelly’s hospital room.
By then, Kelly was awake. Seeing Selena, she sat up with effort.
Selena hurried over to prop up the pillow for her, then sat beside her, eyes welling with tears.
Kelly frowned, wiping Selena’s tears, and scolded her:
“Why are you crying? Maybe that little one would have had a better future if they were not my child.”
Her joking tone lightened Selena’s mood considerably. Then, Kelly suddenly said:
"But that car accident was no coincidence. I think someone tried to kill me and the baby.”
"Who?” Selena asked anxiously.
Kelly was silent for a moment before saying:
"William’s mother.”
Brutus, feeling indebted to Kelly, had transferred all his shares to her, unintentionally making her one of the major shareholders of the Sterling Group.
Kelly felt that relying on Balthazar to bring down the Sterling Group was taking too long, so she planned to use those shares to enter the corporation and take on an important position.
Unexpectedly, even old old Mr. Sterling agreed with her proposal, despite William and Amelia’s vocal objections.
As soon as Kelly joined the Sterling Group, she became the head of the planning department. Moreover, she didn’t hide the fact that she was Brutus’s mistress, leading to much gossip within the company. She didn’t feel ashamed, but William did.
Lately, everything William did had been difficult, making him increasingly irritable. Seeing Kelly flaunt her position in front of him stirred murderous intent in him.
Kelly closed her eyes, trying to recall the license plate of the car that had hit her and fled. She thought to herself that if she found out William was indeed behind it, she would send him straight to prison.
Hearing Kelly’s suspicion, Selena trembled all over. She grabbed her hand and, choking back tears, said:
"Kelly, I’m sorry. It’s because of my foolish plan that you’ve been in danger so many times.
She should never have involved her friend in this mess from the start.
Kelly raised her hand, gently stroking Selena’s hair, and smiled:
"This was my choice, Selena. I won’t stop now.”
Selena knew Kelly wouldn't stop, so she no longer advised her. She silently thought that before she did something irreparable, she would end it all herself.
Not long after, Mrs. Collin and Wyatt entered the hospital to visit Kelly. When Mrs. Collin saw that she and Selena already knew each other, she was quite surprised but didn’t ask much.
Seeing that Selena looked thinner than before, with a clear sadness on her face, Mrs. Collin asked:
"Have you been busy lately, dear? You’ve lost weight."
Even though they had only known each other for more than half a year, she felt a deep bond with Selena. Looking at her always reminded her of her unfortunate daughter.
Selena forced a smile and replied:
"I’m fine. I probably lost a little weight because I haven’t had a good appetite these days."
Wyatt, standing next to them, chimed in:
"How about you come over and have my mom’s cooking? She’s a great cook."
Hearing her younger brother's innocent words, Selena smiled. She truly missed her mother’s cooking, but did she still have the right to enjoy it now?
