Chapter 88 Chapter 88
“Don’t…” I blocked him with my hand. “Don’t you dare call my name, Hendeix. It makes me sick. If you still want to be forgiven, let me leave this fucking villa and give me time to think. For now, I don’t want to see you.”
I asked Roan for the key to my car. Because of the sharpness of my stare, she had no choice but to obey me.
I went nowhere else but my house. There, I saw myself crying nonstop. In the following days, I got sick from continuous crying. My voice was completely hoarse, and I couldn’t even open my eyes because of the severe swelling. I was also having difficulty breathing because my chest felt tight.
I checked my med kit in the drawers, but unfortunately, the magnesium I need right now has already expired. I had no choice but to go out to buy that medicine and also an electrolyte for my fatigue. I was paying at the counter when someone called my name.
“Doc. Jade? What happened to you? What brought you here?”
I glanced at him and saw a man who wasn’t wearing his usual lab coat but simple casual clothes.
“Doc. Jeggo, it’s you. What are you doing here?” I tried to steady my voice and avoided his gaze because it was embarrassing for him to see my face. This might even reach Mom.
“Ahhh… nothing really,” he answered nervously, but when I peeked at what he was hiding in his hand, I rolled my eyes.
“Are all men really like that? Is sex the only thing you in your mind?” I snapped.
“H-hey, excuse me? What are you talking about? Can you also shut your mouth, Doc. Jade? We’re in a public place.”
Shut up… I always have to keep quiet. Fuck.
“Tsk. Why, don't you do that in public places too? I’m sure that’s your fantasy, you men!”
“Of course not! I’m not that crazy! And besides, can you please stop? We’re not young anymore. Why do you talk as if this is your first time seeing a condom?” he said, then added the box of condoms to my purchases. “And besides, it’s not something I’ll use… you know I still don’t have a girlfriend, so who would I even use this with? Someone just asked me to buy it.”
“Oh please! You still won’t admit it! Even if she’s not your girlfriend, you sleep with her! Stop acting innocent! With that handsome face of yours, aren’t women chasing after you?”
It seemed like I was venting all my frustration with the world on him, but he just laughed.
He grinned and poked my side repeatedly. “So, I’m handsome? I knew it; you have a crush on me, Doc. Jade! Too bad you got married right away. We would’ve looked good together.”
I just grimaced while watching his eyebrows go up and down. Of all the people I had to run into tonight, why did it have to be him? Talking to him was making me even dizzier!
“Oh, what’s going on? Why are you buying electrolyte and magnesium? Can’t you sleep? And why do your eyes look swollen? Did something happen?” he asked while helping me put my purchases into plastic bags.
“That’s none of your business! Here, this is your condom! I already paid for it, okay? Go enjoy yourself and be on your way!” I said and tried to leave, but he tugged at the hoodie I was wearing, making me turn back to him.
“Are you sure you’re really okay, Doc. Jade?” His tone suddenly became serious.
“I said I’m fine! Why are you so persistent? You’re making me—”
My words were cut off when my vision suddenly darkened. I held my temple and braced my hand against the doorframe.
“Doc. Jade!” Doc. Jeggo called out as he checked my pulse. He quickly took my hand, slung it over his shoulder, and carried me toward his car.
“I’m fine, Doc. Jeggo, what are you doing?”
“Stop lying! You’re supposed to tell doctors everything, especially when you’re feeling something. You know that, Doc. Jade. It’s better if I bring you to the hospital. I’m worried about you, you’re so pale!”
I stopped the hand he had on the steering wheel.
“N-no… don’t bring me to St. Aveline… just take me to my house… drive me home. I already bought what I need,” I pleaded.
He sighed while looking at me with concern. He quickly maneuvered the car, and the next thing I knew, I was lying on my bed while Doc. Jeggo was busy attaching an IV drip to me. I said it wasn’t necessary, but he insisted.
“I don’t know what happened, but you can always confide in me, Doc. Jade,” he said seriously.
I smiled and shook my head. “I am fine. As always.”
“I am a doctor. I know if someone is fine or not.” He sat beside me. “This is not the first time I’ve seen you like this, Doc. Jade. You can always cry on me. If things are getting heavier, share it with me, hmm?”
I laughed. “Tss! You don’t sound like the Doc. Jeggo, I know!” No matter what, he always manages to make me laugh with the simplest things he says. I don’t know what kind of humor he has. He’s the type of person whose face doesn’t match his personality.
“Seriously, I’m always like this with you, Doc. Jade, but you’re the one who doesn’t take me seriously. I care for you, not because you’re my colleague, but because you’re special to me. You’re my friend.”
“Tsk. Fine, fine! Stop being so dramatic! Go home already. I might be delaying your business with other women. I’m going to rest now. Just lock the door, okay?”
“Tss. Alright. Call me if you need me. I’m always one call away, Doc. Jade,” he said as he stood up. “Don’t forget to take your meds.”
I nodded and let him leave my room. And thanks to him taking care of me, I was able to catch up on sleep and felt better the next day.
When I woke up, I went straight to the kitchen to look for something to eat, but I noticed that even my supplies were already expired. I had been away from the house for so long, so I had no choice but to go out again and do the groceries. When I came back, I cooked sinigang loaded with sweet potato leaves and added a few large shrimps. I also tried to occupy my mind and cleaned the house, including the garden, as well as my car.
“Doc. Jade!”
I turned to see who was calling me from the gate of my house. I almost snorted when I saw which bastard was standing there.
“Doc. Jeggo? What are you doing here again?!”
