Chapter 28 Chapter 28
“W-wait—!”
“What’s the matter? Did I do something wrong?” I asked anxiously.
“No, not really. It’s just…” He scratched his head and looked away. He cleared his throat before turning his gaze back to me. “Nothing. Let’s just get out of here.”
“Wait! Give me those remaining three coins so I can come back here to Rome five times,” I insisted, but I was shocked when he pulled them away from me and quickly threw them into the fountain. My mouth literally fell open in surprise.
“What was that? Why did you throw them all? Do you also want to come back here? But you don’t even need to toss coins because you can come back whenever you want. And I thought you didn’t believe in gods and stuff?”
“Nothing. I just don’t want coins in my pocket. Let’s go. Let’s go somewhere else.”
He pulled me away, but I still couldn’t stop talking. I couldn’t calm down thinking about the wasted coins! He should’ve just given them to me!
“If you didn’t want the coins, you should’ve just given them to me! That’s why I was asking for them! So stingy, huh? They’re just coins. Will you run out of money? They were wasted,” I kept ranting.
“Shush. You’re so loud, my wife.” He covered his ears, but I didn’t back down.
“And if I am? They were wasted! You should’ve just given them to me.”
He put his finger on my lips to shut me up. “It’s not a waste, okay? Now look, my pocket is empty. Your hand can be in here freely.”
He grabbed my hand quickly as he put it inside his pocket. I was so surprised that my heart skipped a beat. I felt warm.
“W-what are you doing, huz?” But the excitement instantly disappeared when I realized something. I immediately pulled my hand out the moment I felt something hard. My eyes widened as I pushed him away.
“What the f—?!”
MY CURSING was cut off when the tourists all looked at me. I grimaced in embarrassment. I heaved a sigh as I grabbed Hendeix’s arm and dragged him to a secluded place.
“You’re such a pervert! You’re really so indecent! Why did you have to do that? Now I ended up cursing!” I rambled nonstop, my cheeks burning. I was even fanning myself while looking around to see if anyone was watching us.
“What are you saying?” he asked, brows furrowed. It was obvious from his face that he had no idea what I was talking about, so I bit my lip. I thought he was trying to make me feel giddy when he placed my hand inside his pocket, but apparently he just wanted me to touch something else! So annoying! Why would he do that? Is he really trying to tempt me?
“Hey, what’s the problem? What did I do wrong again?” he added.
I pointed a finger at him. “You… I understand that you can do whatever you want, but please don’t mess with me. You promised we won’t do it, so don’t try to seduce me.”
“I don’t get what you’re saying, Mori. Enlighten me. What do you mean I seduce you? When did I ever try—?”
“I touched it, okay? I’m not a fool who can’t figure things out. You put my hand in your pocket so I could feel it. Don’t try to do that again in public. Please? If you can suppress yourself, well, I can’t. No one can resist you.”
He stared at me for a moment. And I could clearly see the confusion in his eyes. “W-what? I didn’t—wait, hold on. Oh, you’re talking about my third leg. Haha, yeah. It’s hard. This is what it is every time I see you…” He even held his length as if proving it to me. Damn it. How can he be so crude? “…but that’s not the reason why I put your hand in my pocket, okay?”
“What is it then?” I asked, raising a brow and crossing my arms. He laughed for a second, but his smile disappeared when he stared at me for a long time, like he suddenly realized something.
“Nah. Just think of me as a pervert, Mori. That’s easier,” he said, then walked past me, though he turned back.
“What do you mean easier? Are you too lazy to explain it to me? How are we supposed to understand each other like that? A while ago we were fine because we talked things through. Now tell me your reason because I’ll understand it anyway.”
“No, it’s not that I don’t want to explain… It’s just that…”
He stared at me again. I waited a few seconds for his answer, but he didn’t give one. His eyes glowed in shame. What kind of face is that?
He sighed as his shoulders slumped. He walked back to me. “Look… it’s just really hard to explain things that I don’t really understand myself.”
“Don’t understand, or are you just embarrassed?”
“No. I have defeated a huge number of companies with my fist in the most heinous way, but there’s no remorse in my case. You see, I know you’re aware that not all men in the world are talkative. I am also that kind of man who doesn’t share everything because we think you might weaponize it against us. And considering your husband is a businessman, you should understand that.”
I furrowed my brows. Yes, I know men can be secretive. I didn’t expect him to tell me everything. Am I asking too much? Is that among the questions I shouldn’t pry about? I was just asking why he put my hand in his pocket. Is it really that hard to answer? Or should I just think he’s trying to be sweet? But, hell nah. Why would he? I only see that in the dramas I watch. It’s impossible he did that just to make me feel giddy or whatever.
I just sighed. “Fine, if you don’t want to answer that, I won’t press you. Just like you said, I’ll just think you’re a pervert.”
