Chapter 31 Aamon's Goal
Then one of them stepped forward and raised a hand, stopping the others.
“Aamon knows what he’s doing. The girl’s injured. She’s not a threat.”
The others still looked hostile, but eventually they lowered their weapons.
“Please,” the assassin added quietly.
Finally, the tension eased.
Aamon nodded briefly in gratitude before carrying Red farther toward the waterfall.
There, beneath the shade near the water, sat a dark-skinned woman with large, round eyes and wavy black hair falling over her chest. She immediately stood when she saw Red’s condition.
“What happened?” she asked quickly.
“She’s badly hurt,” Aamon replied.
“Who is she?”
“She’s the one who destroyed the Tyrannosaurus.”
The woman blinked in shock. “Seriously?”
Then she quickly pointed to a nearby cloth mat.
“Lay her down. I need to check for internal bleeding.”
Red groaned painfully as Aamon lowered her onto the mat. The woman immediately began examining her injuries carefully. The second she touched Red’s arm, Red cried out in pain.
“Her arm’s broken,” the woman said worriedly. “We need Ingo. I can’t properly treat this without equipment.”
“Do whatever you can, Kyra,” Aamon replied. “We still don’t know how we’re getting out of here.”
Kyra frowned. “And what exactly am I supposed to help her with? Twigs and branches?”
“If twigs and branches help, then use them.”
Kyra stared at him in disbelief.
“I’m not taking responsibility if this goes wrong,” she said firmly.
“You’re a Support Medic, aren’t you?”
Kyra let out a quiet sigh. “Fine.”
She stood and gathered several sturdy broken branches nearby before washing them carefully in the waterfall. Then she returned with a bag hidden behind the rocks and pulled out several rolls of bandages.
Moments later, Red’s screams echoed through the forest as Kyra cleaned and treated the wound.
The branches were tied tightly around Red’s arm to keep it stable. The rough bark scraping against her skin hurt so badly that Red nearly blacked out several times.
Eventually, Kyra took out a small plastic bottle and several pills before helping Red swallow them.
“This is for the pain,” Kyra said gently. “I’m not going to hurt you, okay? What’s your name?”
“Aegea… no… I’m Lein… Call me Red. I’m Red,” she mumbled weakly, barely making sense anymore.
“All right, Red.” Kyra smiled softly. “I’m Kyra. I was a medic back on Earth. My classification is Support Medic, so you’re safe with me. Understand?”
Red nodded weakly. “Thank you…”
“Get some sleep. Don’t worry. You’re safe here.”
Aamon returned shortly after. He crouched beside Kyra and looked down at Red, who was nearly asleep already.
Kyra lightly patted Aamon’s thigh and gave him a brief nod. Then the two quietly stepped away from Red.
“She needs real treatment, Aamon,” Kyra whispered. “Ingo handles the injured. We already found hospitals aboard the ship.”
“And risk them putting her into hibernation because her injuries are severe?” Aamon shook his head. “No.”
Kyra stared at him in disbelief. “You’d rather let her die?”
“I want her to survive.”
“Then let Ingo treat her!”
“No.”
“Why?” Kyra snapped. “She’d be safer there! Honestly, if it were me, I’d choose hibernation too. I can’t handle all of this anymore.”
“We’ll heal her once we’re allowed back into After Domini.”
“And when will that happen? What if more monsters like that show up?”
Aamon stayed silent for a moment.
“Just trust me,” he finally said.
Kyra looked frustrated but chose not to argue further.
Aamon turned and started walking back toward the assassins gathered nearby, but suddenly Kyra grabbed his arm.
“You still haven’t answered me,” she said quietly.
Aamon looked back at her. “Answered what?”
“Why won’t you let her hibernate?” Kyra glanced toward Ursula, who sat motionless nearby. “Is it because of that robot?”
“Ursula?”
“You’re seriously risking a weak girl’s life because she has a powerful robot?”
Aamon shook his head. “I’m not afraid of Red. You’re misunderstanding this.”
“Then what is it?”
Aamon looked directly into her eyes.
“She and that robot are extraordinary together,” he said quietly. “They’re the perfect combination. I’m certain they can survive until the final stage of this battle. They already defeated a monster robot when everyone else thought it was impossible.”
Kyra stared at him in disbelief.
“And you can still leave her in this condition just to reach your goal?” she asked softly. “That’s selfish, Aamon.”
“Listen carefully.” Aamon’s voice turned serious. “Red and Ursula are lethal weapons. I need her help until the very end.”
