Sophia didn't respond; she merely glared at me with fierce intensity, her eyes glimmering with an eerily green light.
Howard pulled me into his arms, his blue eyes glinting with a hint of red, a cold smile appearing on his perfect face. "Why bother talking to her? Just kill her."
I was stunned by Howard's approach—fighting fire with fire!
Sophia was also taken aback, glaring at Howard. "If it weren't for you messing around before, I would have killed her already."
She must be talking about the time I fell down the stairs. So it was Howard who saved me. I looked at Howard gratefully, feeling a bit touched.
Howard glanced at me, curling his lips. "Since you're mine, I won't let anything happen to you."
For the first time, I thought he was both handsome and cool.
"Enough, today you both will die." Seemingly unable to tolerate our affectionate display any longer, Sophia suddenly roared.
I was startled by her sharp voice, shrinking behind Howard, raising my hand to command. "Howard, beat her up!"
Howard's striking eyebrows furrowed as he cast a faint, sidelong glance at me, accompanied by a soft snort. "Since when do you get to order me around?" Although his words were harsh, yet he rose to the challenge with determination.
To be honest, I have only seen such scenes on TV.
Howard had always struck me as cold, sharp-tongued, and somewhat domineering. Although he seemed difficult to get along with, he was not as terrifying as the demons in horror films.
He ascended into the air, surrounded by a shroud of dark energy. His white hair billowed, and his black shirt flapped violently in the wind. Massive black wings unfurled, exuding an aura of dominance and authority. From his lofty perch, he gazed down with a chilling indifference, like a demon from the depths of hell, radiating an aura of fearsome menace.
Facing this kind of Howard not just to me, even Sophia, a ghost, felt fear.
Apparently, Sophia had misunderstood his previous hesitant demeanor, thinking he was as easy to bully as me. The arrogance she had shown moments earlier vanished instantly. Sensing the shift in the tide, she took a step back and prepared to flee.
"Howard, she's trying to flee." I shouted loudly.
Howard flapped his wings, raised his finger slightly, and Sophia was frozen in place.
"Howard, you're amazing." With him around, I no longer felt afraid.
He glanced at me indifferently, not saying a word.
Taking advantage of the situation, I hurried forward and shouted at the immobilized Sophia, "Tell me, why did you harm me?"
Sophia glared at me viciously, saying, "Because I hate you, and I can't stand you."
I was puzzled. Sophia was a tyrant on campus, and I was just an ordinary person. I should not have provoked her.
She looked at Howard again, sneering, "I know who you are now."
"You don't know him?" I asked, puzzled, as she was the one who brought Howard to me.
She laughed sinisterly, her pale face looking a bit creepy. "Do you think he's really protecting you? Karena, I'll be waiting for you in hell."
Howard's eyes flashed with surprise, turning icy cold like frost. With a raised hand, Sophia vanished without a trace, leaving only her screams echoing in the air.
Obviously, Sophia's last words were a warning to me.
Howard's ruthless demeanor before me made me shudder; I found him terrifying. Clearly, Sophia knew something and was silenced by him.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Howard withdrew his hand, looking at me coldly.
I paused, unable to compose myself, yet a smile had already curled at the corners of my lips. "Nothing, just thinking you're so handsome, worthy of being Satan!"
As if seeing through my insincerity, he pulled me into his arms.
His once warm embrace had turned icy cold, a temperature no living person should have. It felt more like the touch of a corpse. The thought sent a shiver down my spine.
He stood tall and aloof, his slight head tilt exuding an air of supreme authority. His towering figure cast a shadow that enveloped me entirely.
"Don't believe her, I won't harm you." As he spoke, he lowered his head, his cold lips kissed mine, the jelly-like texture made me freeze. Although we had made love on the first night, this was my first kiss.
In this very moment, I could distinctly feel his kiss, tender and gentle. I dared not meet his gaze; instinctively, I closed my eyes, thinking, 'He insists that I trust him, but can I really trust him? His arrival has upended my life; he is rumored to be Satan, a demon. Can I trust the words of a demon?'
"Karena." A gentle voice sounded, waking me up.
I opened my eyes, seeing Amelia's worried face.
"Amelia." I sat up, realizing I had fallen asleep on the couch.
"Karena, you must be tired from keeping vigil. Thank you so much; having a friend like you is Sophia's luck." Heath looked at me with gratitude.
I sat up from the couch, coughing awkwardly, really not deserving his gratitude; last night, the mourning hall was a mess.
However, the mourning hall, which was messed up by the two ghosts fighting, was clean and tidy now.
I chuckled dryly. "It's nothing; we're classmates."
Then a slightly mocking voice came.
I looked closely; it was an eighteen-year-old boy, staring at me mockingly, his face somewhat similar to Sophia's.
"Wesley." Heath looked at him disapprovingly. Then he explained to me, "Karena, don't mind him, he's Sophia's twin brother; he's upset about his sister's death, so..."
Wesley Brown interrupted Heath's words with a sneer, "I'm not upset; her death has nothing to do with me. It's good that she's dead."
I had seen that very look on Sophia before; they truly were siblings, absolutely identical.
Feeling awkward, I gave Amelia a look and said, "Mr. Brown, it's getting late, andwe have class tomorrow."
Heath offered to have someone drive us, but we declined.
Walking out of The Brown Villa, I breathed a sigh of relief.
Amelia asked, "Is the matter resolved?"
"Consider it done." I said helplessly; Sophia had gone in a puff of smoke before I could ask her anything.
Suddenly, I felt a strong presence behind me. Instinctively turning back, I saw Wesley standing on the balcony, a sinister smile curling on his lips, looking just like Sophia's smile when she bullied me.
For a moment, I felt a chill down my spine, wondering whether Sophia was really dead.
"What are you looking at?" Seeing I didn't answer for a long time, Amelia asked, following my gaze.
I blinked, and the person on the balcony disappeared.
