Chapter 68: Seeing Through the Trick

I was absolutely certain that the person outside the door was definitely not Luna.

With such a commotion in the room, it was impossible for Howard and the others hadn't heard anything. The only reason they hadn't come was either they didn't hear it at all, or this place was some kind of illusion!

Luna's sudden appearance, the cross shaking like crazy, Howard's silence, and those sporadic frog croaks...

A wave of fear crawled up my spine, my legs felt like jelly as I stared straight at the door, ready to swing open at any moment.

"Karena!" The urgent calls, I heard clearly, it was Howard calling my name.

I suddenly opened my eyes, the sounds around me became clearer, and I looked out the window to see that it was still pitch black outside.

Wesley, Howard, and Amelia were standing in the room, all looking at me with concern.

Seeing me awake, Amelia sighed in relief. "Karena, you're finally awake. Are you okay?"

I looked around, realizing this was my room.

I quickly sat up from Howard's embrace, grabbed Amelia's hand, and spoke nervously, "That thing came to find me just now, it disguised itself as Luna to trick me into opening the door."

Howard pressed his thin lips together, a cold glint flashing in his beautiful eyes. "No, it wanted to trick you into opening the door, but it wasn't using Luna, it was using a dream."

It was then that I realized everything I had experienced was just a dream.

And when I was approaching the door, about to open it for that thing, it was the cross that stopped me.

I didn't know when I fell asleep last night. Everything I thought I had done—waking up, having breakfast, and all the things with Luna—was fake. That thing wanted to break down my mental defenses and take me away.

Thinking about it made me shiver. "Is it really that smart?"

"Otherwise, it wouldn't be so hard to catch." Wesley replied coldly.

I frown. "So what do we do now? Did you let it escape? After experiencing this once, knowing this is a trap, it definitely won't show up again."

"It will show up again." Howard uttered with certainty.

Although I didn't know why it was so persistent, I couldn't help but worry. "It's so smart, even if it shows up again, we won't be able to do anything about it, right?"

"Next time, it won't be so lucky." Howard sneered.

Wesley tilted his head, looking at me with curiosity. "Honestly, I'm more interested in why you didn't open the door for it. I thought you would fall for it."

I instinctively looked at Howard beside me.

I didn't know either, I just felt that Howard wouldn't do something like that, which sounded a bit silly, so I chose to keep quiet.

I tried to act calm and looked up at Wesley. "Of course, it's because I'm smart and saw through its trick, what else could it be?"

Wesley sneered. "You really think I'm buying that?"

I rolled my eyes at him without hesitation. "Believe it or not, who cares what you think?"

Seeing us arguing again, Amelia quickly intervened. "That thing probably won't show up tonight, I'll stay with Karena tonight, she must be scared after that dream."

I had no objections and nodded. "Okay."

Wesley looked at the mess of silver thread crosses outside the door, rubbing his head in frustration. "This mess can only be cleaned up in the morning."

After sending the two guys away, I relaxed and lay down on the bed with Amelia by my side.

It was already close to four in the morning, and I could hear the roosters crowing outside.

Amelia's steady breathing came from beside me, but no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't fall asleep.

Suddenly, I thought I heard water dripping on the floor. At first, I figured it was my imagination, but after listening carefully, I realized the sound was real.

I immediately reached out to nudge Amelia, but she was sleeping too soundly and wouldn't wake up no matter what.

Something was wrong, this was too strange. I quickly sat up and turned on the light in the room.

In the room stood a woman, dressed in a white outfit. After what happened with Ivy, seeing that color made my head spin.

The woman was very beautiful, with strange cloud patterns on her face, and her skin looked flawless, appearing to be in her twenties, like a college student.

She looked like she had been soaked in water, her whole body appeared wet, and her brown hair clung to her face, making her look eerie and disgusting.

I could almost confirm that she was the same thing that flashed by in the well during the day.

"You don't seem surprised to see me." The woman voiced with a smile.

"Female ghost..."

Seeing this female ghost, I was a bit stunned, my mind racing back to Ivy who had already reincarnated.

"So you're the one they sent to deal with me. You look so young, not very powerful, but pretty clever, you didn't fall for it." She was referring to what happened in my dream.

I chuckled, humbly saying, "I'm not smart, just guessed it by chance."

"It doesn't matter if you guessed or not," She laughed eerily. "Anyway, you're going to die today."

"Miss, we have no grievances against each other, why do you insist on killing me?" I tried to stall for time, hoping Howard would figure out something was off soon.

"Who said there's no reason? As long as you were brought here by those people, you deserve to die!" The woman looked angry when she mentioned "those people".

"Are you talking about the villagers? Why do you want to harm them? Did they do something to wrong you?" I couldn't help but speculate, given her white dress.

She didn't answer, just shot me a cold stare. "You don't need to know all that, your body is quite good, just right for me."

As Howard said, these ghosts were all after my body.

She suddenly appeared in front of me, and before I could react, she grabbed my neck tightly.

I couldn't help but curse in my mind, why do these ghosts all like to strangle people's necks?

Couldn't they grab somewhere else?

While I was complaining in my mind, a beam of light suddenly shot out and struck the woman, sending her flying straight out.

She looked at me in disbelief, her expression surprised. "Where did you get that tattoo on your body?"

I didn't know why she was suddenly curious, looked down at the glowing tattoo, and stammered, "My classmate gave it to me."

"You're lying. There's no way an ordinary person could give you a tattoo like that!"
