If Sophia and I weren't arch-enemies, I would have suspected Wesley had a crush on me.
Wesley snorted lightly. "It must be fate. I've been meaning to ask, how is it that I keep bumping into you all the time?"
I immediately put my hands on my hips and retorted, "I was here first. If you saw me, shouldn't you have just left? You didn't leave and stayed here to eavesdrop. Was that my fault?"
"This place is public. Just because I see you, I can't stay here?" Wesley snorted.
Amelia immediately stepped in ease the tension. "Alright, stop arguing. If we don't hurry, Howard will be wrapping up."
For Amelia's sake, I didn't argue with Wesley further.
When the three of us hurried to the playground, we saw a large hole in the ground, and a woman with a blood-red face was floating beside Howard, screaming hysterically.
Seeing this, I immediately hid behind Amelia; I still couldn't face such a bloody scene. Compared to the little ghost, Pearl was really scary.
"Coward," Wesley naturally wouldn't miss the chance to mock me.
I glared at him from behind Amelia. "None of your business!"
As the ghostly Pearl, floating in mid-air, reached out her sharp fingers towards Howard, the little ghost appeared and stood in front of her. "Mom, stop it. I called this man to save you."
I didn't know if it was just my imagination, but I suddenly felt the air around me grow colder. When I looked up at Howard, his face seemed frosty; anyone would have been upset if they had saved someone out of kindness but were got yelled at and pointed at, even if he was a demon.
Understand Howard's feelings, I stepped forward and tried to persuade Pearl. "Pearl, how can you be so ungrateful? If it weren't for Howard, who knows how long you would have been suppressed. Do you know his power? You dare to fight him. Don't say I didn't warn you; if you lose, don't blame him for hitting a woman."
My words successfully redirected Pearl's anger towards me. Her black, pupil-less eyes glared at me. "Another one seeking death."
Her words made me very unhappy. "How can you be less sensible than your child? Even though your child is just an embryo, its brain is more developed than yours."
"Do you know how much I hate?" Pearl's voice was filled with bitterness.
"What does it have to do with us? You should go after the person who harmed you. Why blame us? You were wronged doesn't mean everyone has to tolerate you."
My criticism immediately caused Pearl's expression to change. Actually, it was hard to read her face. However, her tone grew increasingly venomous. "Yes, I'm going to find that heartless man. He is the one deserves to die!" As soon as she finished speaking, she turned into a black mist and disappeared.
Seeing that my words seemed to have backfired, the little ghost looked at me angrily. "Miss, what are you doing? I asked you to persuade my mom, not to anger her."
Scratching my head awkwardly, I looked at Howard nervously and asked, "Do you think she went to find Professor Scott?"
Although we let Pearl go, I didn't want her to kill someone, which would make me feel guilty. Someone like Brian deserved to die, but not in that way.
Howard shook his head calmly, his charming face showing a bit of coldness. "No, I checked the protective barrier on the playground. There should be someone powerful around him, so he shouldn't be killed."
Although he suddenly became so cold, his words reassured me. "That's good."
Amelia looked at Howard and asked about the next step. "So what should we do now? Should we go to Professor Scott's house to find her?"
"Let's go home." Howard's words left us all stunned, especially the little ghost, who was anxiously flying around. "Sir, you promised me; adults must keep their promises. You can't just ignore my mom."
Howard gave it a cold glance, his expression even colder. "What's there to be scared of? Anyway, your mom's not gonna die."
These words were too harsh for a kid. I couldn't help but glare at Howard and mutter, "Don't be so harsh on a kid. It's just worried about its mom."
Howard crossed his arms and looked at me leisurely. "Fine, then you go find its mom."
I immediately fell silent. With my abilities, I'd be torn apart if I went. I cleared my throat and stood beside Howard. "Since Howard said your mom will be fine, she definitely will be. You have to trust him."
The little ghost looked aggrieved but didn't dare to offend Howard, so it nodded silently. "Okay, I understand."
"One more thing," Howard suddenly said seriously, "do I look old?"
The little ghost blinked, seemingly not expecting Howard to care about this. It just wanted Howard to keep his promise and save its mom.
Howard looked like he had been around for a long time, but his face was surprisingly young.. The little ghost didn't expect its unintentional words to upset him.
Seeing Howard's gloomy face, the little ghost didn't dare to argue and weakly replied, "You look very young and handsome."
Howard snorted coldly, barely satisfied.
After that, we followed Howard's advice and went our separate ways. Naturally, I went back to our home with Howard.
Lying on the couch, I felt exhausted, my mind replaying the events of the day.
Howard came out of the bathroom after his shower and saw me lost in thought. He sat down beside me, asking, "What are you thinking about?"
