Chapter 13: You are nothing but a Ruthless soul
Chapter Thirteen of Ruthless
You are nothing but a Ruthless soul😥
Where did she put her phone for God's sake? Tacha repeatedly pressed the doorbell. She was outside Nathan's mansion and her mum wasn't picking up her calls. This was past nine, and she didn't expect her mum to sleep yet in a house where she could watch Nollywood all day. Tacha had cried so hard, that you would have thought she had a serious fight and was beaten up mercilessly, giving her the swollen eyes. Her worries had gotten the best of her.
One thing that was very hard for Tacha to believe was that Hannah decided to get close to her to see what was so special about her that made Tacha's mum compare her with Tacha. The worst feeling that made Tacha cry so freaking hard was nothing more than the fact that the relationship she took with so much sincerity, Hannah saw nothing meaningful in it, and had only been deceiving her. Realising she had told Hannah more of her family secrets, her own secrets, her love life, and everything dear to her. This was more painful than a breakup. Tacha suddenly found herself crying again. She was a fool. Nobody could tell her otherwise. It was the worst feeling ever. Being betrayed by your own family. Someone you love the most.
The gateman refused to open the gate. He could hear the doorbell ringing, the gate banging, but he had to see if Nathan was inside. As the gateman, he would only open the gate to whoever his boss permitted him to. Since Nathan wasn't picking up, the gateman decided to go in and check him in the living room. To his surprise, he met Nathan on the way.
"Open it."
"Yes sir." The gateman obeyed immediately, running to the gate to put an end to the banging before Tacha brought down the gate.
The gate was opened. Tacha had never been so annoyed. "I've been here knocking and ringing the shit out of this bell. You should at least tell me to wait while you confirm from your boss."
"I'm sorry ma." The gateman said instead.
"I'm sorry too." Tacha felt the need to say that because of her choice of tone, knowing the job must not have been easy for the man too. Especially Nathan Brown being his boss.
"No problem at all ma." The gateman responded very quickly.
Tacha stepped aside and moved. When she almost took another step, she froze. Nathan was standing not too far from where she was. He was in a flowering black shorts, a plain white shirt with the half buttons open. Tacha did her best to hide her face from him. She was sure she looked so bad. Extremely. Even an ugly filter would have helped. She was stressed out, staring at nothing in particular with her puffy eyes. She hated the fact that Nathan would have to see her in this bad shape she was in. She had no choice, but to immediately bring her hands and rubbed it on her face for it to appear better, walking very slowly till she got to where Nathan stood. Tacha refused to lift her head to avoid being noticed by Nathan. "Good evening sir, I'm so sorry to bother you this late. I just wanted to check up on my mum before returning tomorrow."
"She's asleep."
"Asleep by this time?" Tacha looked up at Nathan and suddenly regretted it. Those eyes. The way they looked at her. It wasn't like every other time he looked at her. This time, he looks worried. His eyes were filled with concern, so tender, and quite affectionate, which suddenly made Tacha's breathing quick. She had never seen Nathan appear this way and it bothered her. His eyes held hers, but of course, Tacha knew he would never ask her what was wrong. Men like Nathan don't care, because they aren't always ready to listen.
Tacha boldly looked up at Nathan whose eyes never left hers. Tacha held her breath pleading with her eyes, praying Nathan wouldn't send her out. "Emm... I need a favour, sir. Please...can I spend the night with them? My mum and my sister. I know you wouldn't want me here, but I plead with you to allow me to stay for tonight.'
Nathan's eyes had a bit of colour in them. They changed too quickly. They looked down at Tacha so annoyed, his voice coming out too fast. "Do you think I will be so heartless as to say no with your eyes as swollen as this. What exactly do you even think of me? Do you think I don't have a heart at all or what?" Nathan crossed his arms. He released them, walking away from Tacha. Nathan felt so stupid for coming out. To do what exactly? Was he that eager to see her? He had to stop. He had to stop this nonsense. Nathan warned himself against this mess he was trying to walk into. He intentionally brought Tacha's mum closer so he could see Tacha always. This was the worst decision of his life. Now, Nathan was regretting it. Yes, he had been so stupid to offer her mum that kind of job. But he just couldn't think of anything else when she needed a place to stay. He was told she had been sent packing out of their house and he was sure they had nowhere to go. After realising he had hurt Tacha so much, he gave her a very good offer. What else did she expect from him?
It was a thing Tacha could just tell him. Her mum now worked for him and he understood she would always be here. Which was one of his motives for employing her mum in the first place. Would he have said no?
Tacha took a brisk walk before running to meet up with Nathan. She quickly came before him and almost fell, but helped herself up. Tacha looked up at Nathan. Her eyes showed the pain she felt that he didn't even bother to help her or show any concern. Tacha immediately threw those thoughts away quickly. What was she expecting? What has she said that made him so angry?
"Get the fuck out of my sight." Nathan's voice was as cold as ice. His eyes, his tone, they weren't joking. They glared at Tacha. They made Tacha almost crippled with fear, hoping she could stand him for some minutes.
Tacha swallowed the embarrassment, her eyes pleading. She had no other choice. "Nathan I didn't mean to--"
"I said get the fuck out of my sight. That was fucking simple." His hand pushed Tacha away from him. "Don't make me repeat myself," he said. He didn't turn around. He wasn't going to. He didn't care to know how she fell to the ground hitting her knee so hard. When he finally turned, he had mastered minding his fucking business, letting his face stay as hard as he could. His voice went out with pride again. "Never call me by my name again. We are never mates. Not by age. Not even by status." Nathan said, his eyes rock-hard, telling Tacha he meant every word. When Tacha searched them and she saw it, those eyes were just like when she met him. At the Lucas lounge. Just who he truly was. Exactly how he spoke to him that very day. Cold. Rude. Dirty looks. Pompous act. Intimidating eyes. Everyone would be scared of that shit, and Tacha was not excluded the moment she knew the old Nathan was resurfacing. She came before him again. Not because of anything else, but her mum who was working for him now. What if he changed to her?
"Nathan I beg you." Tacha's voice was shaking, she was close to tears fighting so hard to be the brave girl no one had discovered inside of her before. "I just wanted your permission. You can get angry with me all you like, but not my mum."
"Shut the fuck up! You fucking low life just shut up! Shut the fuck up please!" Nathan yelled at her. He paused for a second seeing Tacha's eyes filled with tears that could drop at any moment he talked. Her heavy breathing was so obvious as her full breasts went up and down. Nathan moved his eyes to avoid being distracted. He looked into Tacha's teary eyes instead. "Being kind is a choice, Tacha. It should not be something that people would just expect. No one is obligated to my act of kindness. If your mum does her job well, then no problem. I ain't gonna be nice with anyone because of someone. What sense of entitlement is that?"
Tacha suddenly lost it. If she had been looking for someone to vent her anger on, Nathan was the only one she could do it with without any care in the world of looking like a crazy woman. Her teary eyes succumbed to the emotions Tacha felt now. Anger. Tears gone. She looked up at Nathan, her eyes so fierce. "Tell me, are all these because I didn't end in your bed? Are you that pained that I didn't sleep with you?"
Nathan stepped back and laughed. If for some minutes he was angry, this crazy woman was capable of changing his mood so quickly. He couldn't help the laughter that came out of him all of a sudden. Tacha thought he was making fun of her and that made Tacha's self esteem dropped. She suddenly regretted saying that, and slowly her eyes were red with embarrassment. Nathan saw it and stopped laughing. He didn't want her to cry. "Tacha, you need to get one thing straight. Ten million naira is nothing to me. If I offered you that, I just wanted to help your life. And do I look like someone any lowlife can just sleep with? If I had wanted to take you to bed so quickly, is just to pay your price and of course, don't tell me you don't have. I can't even fuck you more than once. That's the way I see you."
Tacha had never been so pained in her life. She wanted to slap Nathan so hard but she knew the consequences. Her mum was with him. Instead, Tacha squeezed her mouth, twisted her mouth, bit her lower lip so hard, sucked her lips inside just to stop her tears, but it didn't work. She ground her teeth together, her eyes shut close and the tears fell. "You are just a bastard! I hate you so much."
"At least, I don't fuck my girlfriend and fuck her cousin. I have some respect for her."
Tacha's eyes shut opened. She stared at Nathan "What...did..you just..." Her lips trembled.
"Well have sacked him." Nathan walked away, rolling his eyes at Tacha's seriousness. He couldn't look into her eyes after seeing her cry so hard. What did he say that made her spoil her mouth and cry so quickly? He couldn't handle it and was tired of her drama.
"Nathan stop!" Tacha ran after him. "Tell them to give him back his job. He's the breadwinner of his family and he needs his job. You can't do that to a man who has a family to feed."
"Tell who?" Nathan stopped. "I'm his boss, and I've fired him. How important can you be that you can make me change my mind? Or do you still love him?"
Tacha stopped on her track. Her thoughts were everywhere. One; because he was Ricko's boss. The same guy she heard so much about from Ricko. Two; What exactly does Nathan know about her? How did he know what happened between her and her boyfriend? Three; his last statement. They created a wound only Tacha could feel. Tacha gave up trying to fight him. "You know what." Her voice was loud enough to make Nathan stop. "After seeing what you and your family look like, not even once, did I ever think of being with you. You are nothing but a Ruthless soul."
If every word Tacha had been saying made Nathan so angry. Something about those words she said just now made Nathan so furious. He hated being compared to his family and Tacha just did that. The rage he felt was evident in his eyes, and his hand balled into a fist so quickly but he refused to turn. When he looked up, he saw Tacha's mum gasp. The pain in her eyes was the same as any other mother as she ran with full speed, yelling her daughter's name with a trembling voice. "Oh...my God...Ta...Tacha!"
Nathan turned, and his heart seized to breathe for a second as Tacha's mum gathered Tacha's body on the ground. Nathan's body was suddenly cold. He couldn't remember where his car key was but he shouted as much as he could. "Open the damn gate, James!"
