Chapter 129 Proposal
Elara's POV
One year later.
The open-air amphitheater of Guardian Academy stretched before me in a sea of silver and white, hundreds of graduation robes catching the afternoon sunlight. I sat in the front row of the graduate section, my fingers gripping the edges of my transcript, the perfect scores in both Guardian Theory and Combat Applications still feeling surreal.
My gaze lifted to the viewing gallery where Kaelen sat at the center of the first row, his ice-blue eyes locked on me with focused intensity, and beside him Dad's distinguished features held quiet pride while Damian's darker gaze shimmered with emotion and James bounced excitedly in his seat.
Through the mate bond connecting us, I felt Kaelen's pride washing over me in powerful waves that made my chest tighten and my silver-gray eyes burn with unshed tears.
Principal Aldric rose from the faculty platform, his white hair gleaming as he moved to the podium. "Today we honor not only academic achievement but extraordinary courage," he began, his voice carrying across the amphitheater. "Elara Sterling demonstrated both during the Blood Moon crisis when she stood against forces that would have destroyed our entire community."
My hands trembled as he continued, listing the battles I had fought and the people I had protected. The applause built to thunder that filled the entire amphitheater, hundreds of hands coming together in recognition that made my face flush with embarrassment and gratitude.
"It is my honor to present Elara Sterling with the title of Distinguished Guardian and the Silver Moon Medal, an honor bestowed only once in the three-hundred-year history of this institution," Principal Aldric announced as he lifted a silver medallion from its velvet cushion. "Come forward, Miss Sterling."
My legs felt unsteady as I climbed the steps to the platform, each movement requiring conscious effort. Principal Aldric's weathered hands were gentle as he placed the medallion around my neck, the cool metal settling against my collarbone with surprising weight.
My hand lifted to touch the Silver Moon Medal. "I stand before you today not because I was born special, but because I learned that my worth was never determined by how others chose to treat me. I learned that from this institution, from my family who never stopped believing in me, and from one particular Alpha who taught me that real strength lies in choosing to trust even when trust feels impossible."
The crowd erupted in knowing laughter as my eyes found Kaelen, his ice-blue gaze locked on mine with intensity that made our connection flare bright, and I saw his ears flush red even as his expression remained controlled.
"So I challenge each of you to be the silver moon in someone else's darkness," I concluded, lifting the medallion high. "Be the person who refuses to let others define themselves by their scars, who sees potential where the world sees only damage."
My voice cracked as tears streamed down my face. "Thank you for teaching me that I was always worthy of love. Thank you for showing me that being broken doesn't mean being beyond repair."
I bowed deeply as applause thundered through the amphitheater, and when I straightened I saw that half the audience was crying including Dad whose features were wet with tears.
I turned to descend from the platform, but before I could take two steps I heard movement from the viewing gallery and looked up to see Kaelen rising from his seat. The entire amphitheater fell silent as he strode across the space and climbed onto the platform with purpose that made my heart hammer against my ribs.
He dropped to one knee before me in front of hundreds of witnesses, and my hand flew to my mouth as shock and hope crashed through me. Kaelen reached into his jacket and withdrew a silver ring set with a glowing moonstone, the metal inscribed with runes of binding magic.
"You taught me that true strength lies not in domination but in protection, not in control but in trust," he said, his ice-blue eyes holding mine. "You showed me what it means to be worthy of the power I was born with, and you made me want to be better because you deserve nothing less."
His hand trembled slightly as he held up the ring. "Marry me, Elara Sterling. Let me spend forever teaching you that you deserve to be cherished and protected and loved with every fiber of my being. Be my mate and my partner until the stars fall from the sky and the moon itself goes dark."
I couldn't speak past the sob in my throat, couldn't do anything except nod frantically as tears poured down my face. "Yes," I finally choked out.
Kaelen's face split in a grin of pure joy as he slid the ring onto my finger. The moonstone flared brilliant silver the instant the metal touched my skin, light pouring from the gem in waves, and I felt our mate bond surge and solidify with finality that resonated through every cell of my body. The silver light from the ring twined with the gold glow of our mate marks, the two colors spiraling together in visible magic.
Kaelen rose and pulled me into his arms, his lips finding mine in a kiss that tasted of promise and forever, and the amphitheater erupted in applause and cheers loud enough to shake the ancient stones beneath our feet.
