Chapter 37 Chapter 37

Chapter 37 Chapter 37
Violet

Cassie would just find a way to get back with her old friends in the city and Elijah would probably threaten to cage her if she didn’t listen. And the way she was guilty of not listening to him, she would not dare going against him this time.

Well, that was convenient for me to not have to meet her again. Even if it sucked.

Mom was trying to sound cheery and making all sorts of plans thinking I was just sad because of not being able to contribute for our pack’s safety. They had no idea what turmoil I was going through in my head, and it was better to keep it that way.

So I put up a bright smile, hugged her and decided to let her lead the way.

For the entire day, she played a cliche tv series, we had popcorn and pizza while she let me in on the latest gossip. I feared the viral video would pop up soon in her rambling but it looked like people had moved on to some next big scandal.

I couldn’t have been more glad.

We were on the last episode when mom’s phone buzzed and she screamed excitedly.

“Mom, what's going on?”

However, she simply ran to the other room to take the call. I watched warily as she returned a few minutes later, concern evident in her eyes.

“You have to reach Stratfod International immediately. Luke is in trouble.”

“What happened to dad?”

Well, that was convenient for me to not have to meet her again. Even if it sucked.

“What happened to dad?”

I stared wide eyed at mom who suddenly pushed me to my room and began throwing my clothes all around.

“Mom, what are you doing?”

“Quick, change into something nice from these awful pajamas and reach Stratford International. You have to show up there as soon as possible.”

She grabbed a black pencil skirt and a grey blouse and began stuffing my laptop in my bag.

“Mom!!”

“Quick. We don’t have time. They are interrogating Luke as we speak.”

I had no idea why I had to change into business wear or how me going to whatever company she was asking me to would save dad but I stopped questioning and readily changed.

Ten minutes later, mom had grabbed my purse, fussed over my hair and was screaming.

“Put on some light makeup.”

“Why the hell would I need makeup to save dad?” I argued but she pulled out the foundation and dabbed on my cheeks.

“It doesn’t hurt to give a good first impression. Now go, shoo.”

Mom thrust me into the car and ordered the driver to take me to Stratfod International. I thought maybe mom wanted me to push into the business aspect of our pack to keep me engaged.

She saw the way my face crumpled when I told about my failure and she also knew I liked to work and did most of the tasks at Nate’ pack.

So I was under the impression she only wanted me to be their for dad’s moral support and she just made a big deal out of it to uplift me.

My phone buzzed and there was a text from mom stating the exact floor and office I had to be in. I smiled and typed okay but then something caught my attention.

Mom had not just stuffed my laptop in the bag but I also saw my old sketchbooks in it. Weird.

What would I need those for?

Maybe, she just hastily just dumped everything in the bag. That was the only explanation I could think of as the driver stopped outside a tall skyscraper.

I called my dad upon reaching to check for his whereabouts but when I entered the lobby, I heard somebody ask for me.

“Are you Miss Violet Hayes?” A young looking woman wearing a cream colored pleated dress asked me.

“Yes”

“Please follow me” she said and led me through the huge lobby and up the elevator that opened on one of the topmost floors.

“Hi, thank you but I have to go to the 40th floor where my father, Luke Hayes is. Did he send you?”

The woman only smiled but didn’t answer which was weird but I assumed she was not much of a talker.

“All the best” She muttered and then walked away, leaving me staring at a giant door. I looked around but there was no other door so I knocked on it and heard a gruff voice.

“Come in”

I pushed the door open to see a old looking man seated on a chair, smiling at me.

“Violet, welcome to Stratford International”

I smiled back at him though I was unsure how did the woman or this man know my name. Perhaps my dad had told them about my arrival.

“Hello, nice to meet you, Mr…”

“William Stratford”

I nodded as he offered me a sit opposite his desk. The man looked a bit older than my dad though when I glanced around I found no sign of him.

Mom had said they were interrogating dad but this man seemed too cheerful for an interrogation.

Confused, I smiled at him but then he opened a file and flipped the pages.

“Interesting. You have a very keen eye”

Was he talking to me?
