Chapter 100 Chapter 100
Violet
“Yeah, she was the one to insist that I should bring you when I casually mentioned how you were a good friend who showed up to look for me. She was very curious who Elijah had let grow this close to me and even approved of. Everybody knows Elijah doesn’t trust easily. She wouldn’t stop mentioning you and always made sure to tell me to bring you along to be thanked with food and wine. It's funny, hahaha, how indebted she felt.”
Cassie muttered while I sat back, the conversation with Lady Aurelia playing in my head again.
So that is why I was here. Not because Cassie had just thrown a tantrum.
But because Lady Aurelia had sensed the presence of a girl in Elijah’s life and wanted to personally ensure he would never trust me again under the guise of hospitality.
My head was reeling due to this new information that came to light. It seemed like everybody here had their own agenda while they pretended to be a big happy family.
I was lost in thoughts and only realized that the car had come to a halt and we were in the parking lot when there was a knock on the door.
“Hey, where are you lost?”
Nate’s voice drifted towards me. He extended a hand for me to step out but I got out from the other side of the car instead.
Instead of scowling, Nate was smiling.
“I am not sure if I like this new version of you better than the old one.”
“What the fuck is wrong with you? You are getting married to the love of your life. Then why the hell do you keep talking to me?”
Nate sighed.
“Because I don’t like the way you look at me with hatred. You used to be all puppy eyed whenever you looked at me. It was as if your world revolved just around me. I miss that feeling.”
I pointed at Nicole.
“That is your world now. The one you always wanted and now finally have. So go run behind her. Because my patience is wearing thin, Nate and I am warning you, I will spill the beans if you don’t keep your distance from me.”
He smirked. “Where is the fun in that? Besides, I know you won’t do it.”
I folded my hands across my chest.
“What makes you so confident?”
He lowered his voice.
“Because I know you very well. You won’t harm people even if they hurt you, not when the life of your parents is involved.”
That didn’t mean I couldn’t slap him.
So I raised my hand and slapped him hard for the second time.
“Stay the fuck away from me!”
I shouted and ran ahead to catch up with Cassie and the others. There were many people around so Nate adjusted his clothes and checked the mirror for any signs of the slap on his face.
When we entered the luxury boutique, a swarm of attendants, all dressed in black rushed towards us.
A lady wearing navy blue askd loudly.
“Where is the most talked about and high profile bride of the country?”
She clapped loudly and rushed forward while Nicole smiled, “Here I am”
“Oh, how lovely.”
She pulled her into a hug. “Oh my, such a good figure and flawless complexion. And look at that snatched waist. Girl, your soon to be husband better worship the ground you walk on!”
The woman showered Nicole with heaps of praises while me and Cassie alongwith the aunts just stood aside for a while.
“Oh, you are being too generous, Matilda.”
Matilda, the chief sales representative, smiled brightly and looked at us.
“And would you please introduce me to your gang?”
Nicole began. “These two are my aunts and those two are friends.”
Nate stepped in at that exact moment and Nciole added. “That is my would be husband.”
Matilda’s smile wavered for a second as she took a good look at Nate but didn’t say anything.
“Oh dear, you shouldn’t bring the husband for trials. The groom isnt supposed to see the bridal dress before the wedding. Its considered bad luck.”
Nicole shrugged her concern away. “That’s just crap humans believe. We are werewolves and Alpha Alaric Deveraux makes his own rules. So, I can make mine as well.”
The aunts tried to correct her.
“You can shop for the reception or the after party dresses if you want. But for the bridal dress, Nate will have to step out.”
Nicole didn’t like the idea but she nodded reluctantly.
“If you say so”
I sensed some sort of dissatisfaction between the aunts who were murmuring quietly within themselves.
“She should know better. Didn’t Aurelia tell her what happened last time?”
Growing curious and bored, I inched closer to them.
“What happened last time? I would like to know because I am the maid of honor so don’t want to break any traditions accidentally.”
They both looked hsocked.
“Have you not been given any dos and donts?”
I shook my head. “Not about the traditions and customs.”
They linked their arms with mine and pulled me to the side.
“You know werewolf history is filled with blood and war. Earlier there used to be too many pack wars before the founding families laid down the rules and regulations to abide by. It brought us peace and stability. But one notorious family was against the rise of just one alpha so they killed so many innocents.”
My eyes widened. “Killed innocents?”
Our history books only taught us that war had been inevitable because the witches were encroaching on our land. There was no mention of one of our own turning against us.
“Who that might be?” I wondered aloud.
