Chapter 124: The Pregnancy Is Discovered!

Chapter 124: The Pregnancy Is Discovered!
The hospital hallway smelled strongly of disinfectant. Damian was rushed into the operating room. The "Surgery in Progress" light turned on, stinging Evelyn’s eyes. From the end of the hall, the frantic clicking of high heels approached.

The Green family had arrived. Octavina Green was in the lead. The socialite, who usually never took off her hat even for afternoon tea, had messy hair and a face pale with rage. She spotted Evelyn sitting in the corner, looking disheveled and covered in blood. Her eyes filled with venom.

"You cursed woman!"

Octavina screamed and lunged at her. Before Evelyn could react, the older woman shoved her hard. Evelyn was already weak; she fell heavily to the floor, the skin on her elbows burning as they scraped against the tiles.

"Since you married into this family, Damian hasn't had a single day of peace! Now he’s in there fighting for his life because of you! Why aren't you the one dying?"

Octavina pointed a finger at her. "Why isn't it you in that room instead of my son?"

The other Green relatives joined in, their accusations flooding the hallway.

"I always said she was bad luck."

"If something happens to Damian, what happens to Omni Group?"

"We should have never let this orphan into our home!"

Evelyn stayed on the floor, her long hair masking her face. She didn't argue. She didn't cry. She simply used her arms to shield her stomach. In that moment, she felt nothing but numbness.

As Octavina raised her handbag to strike her again, a tall, steady figure stepped between them.

"Madam, please stop."

It was Alan, Damian’s chief assistant. He had just come from the police station, carrying a sealed folder.

"Get out of the way, Alan! Are you protecting this monster too?" Octavina glared at him.

"I’m not protecting anyone. I’m stating the facts."

He ignored Octavina’s hysterics and played an audio file on his phone. Dennis’s drunken, hateful voice echoed through the hallway.

I hate Damian! That bastard kicked me out and left me with nothing! I want to kill him! I dream about it! but he has too many guards... I can't get close... so I’ll go after his woman. If I kill her, Damian will suffer for the rest of his life! Hahaha!

The recording ended. The hallway went silent. The relatives looked at each other in shock. Octavina’s hand froze in mid-air, her face turning from anger to embarrassment.

"Did you hear that?" Alan asked, his eyes cold as he looked at the crowd. "The attacker was Dennis Grady, a former shareholder. His target was Mr. Green from the start. Mrs. Green was an innocent victim. She is blameless."

He turned away from the stunned crowd and walked to Evelyn, helping her off the floor.

"Are you alright, madam?"

Evelyn leaned on him to steady herself. "Thank you," she whispered.

Alan looked at her pale face and the blood on her clothes. His eyes flickered with a strange emotion. He signaled two bodyguards to keep the Green family away, then lowered his voice. "A word in private, madam."

He led her to a quiet corner by a vending machine. Alan didn't speak immediately. He pulled a neatly folded piece of paper from his briefcase and held it out to her. Evelyn took it, confused. When she saw the contents, her pupils contracted and her heart skipped a beat.

It was a backup of an encrypted medical file. It clearly listed her visits to St. Mary’s Hospital, including the early pregnancy ultrasound report she had hidden so carefully.

"Mr. Green asked me to investigate your movements," Alan’s voice was terrifyingly calm. "I found this. It was encrypted, but it wasn't hard to break if you knew where to look."

Evelyn’s fingers trembled. Her biggest secret was laid bare before this man. If Alan gave this to Damian...

"Is this why you insisted on a divorce even after everything? Is this why you risked your life to collect evidence?" Alan stared into her eyes. "For the child in your womb?"

Evelyn backed up until her spine hit the wall. She wanted to deny it, but under Alan’s piercing gaze, any lie would be useless.

"Alan, I..." Her voice was dry, bordering on a plea.

If Damian knew about this child, he would never let her go. He would do exactly what happened in her nightmare. He would take the child and give it to Sienna, turning Evelyn into nothing more than a biological machine.

Alan saw the terror in her eyes and already knew the answer. He took a deep breath and looked toward the closed doors of the operating room. His expression turned solemn. As Damian’s assistant, his duty was to be absolutely loyal to his boss. By all accounts, he should tell Damian the moment he woke up.
