Chapter 17: Rejecting My Contracted Luna
Emma's POV
Doctor Rosen finishes bandaging up my nose and I walk out of the clinic room with my eyes glued to the ground. I can only imagine the rumors that are spreading about me now. I got out of the Beta's car and stopped a fight between the Alpha and the Beta. Then the Alpha brought me into the clinic and waited with me.
Keeping my eyes on the ground I follow the walkways out of the clinic and head straight for the front door. As I walk out the front door I am blinded by the afternoon sun and run straight into a wall. Or at least I thought it was a wall. Falling backward onto my bottom I grunt as I look up at the sky and see someone smiling back down at me.
"Daniel," I say as I take his outstretched hand and he helps me to my feet. "What are you doing here?"
"I came to check on you," He says shyly as he rubs the back of his neck. "And I suppose that I wanted to tell you to thank you," He adds at the end.
"Thank me?" I cock my head to the side as I look at him. "Thank me for what?"
"For calling off the Alpha," He kicks the dirt on the ground under his feet, refusing to meet my gaze. "I think Ethan would have killed me if it weren't for you."
"I asked him not to punish you," I say as I lay my hand on his arm, trying to draw his gaze back down to my own. "My father was bound to track me down sooner or later."
"About that," Daniel says awkwardly. "What was your old address?"
"Why do you need that?" I can feel an uneasy feeling started to grow in my stomach.
"Because, myself and a few other warriors are going to go take care of things," Daniel says hesitantly. "Just to make sure that this sort of thing doesn't happen again."
"Do I have a say in the matter," I blurt out, not wanting more people to get hurt because of me?
Once again Daniel shifts his gaze to the ground and begins to kick at the dirt. "Probably not," He finally replies.
"Right," I throw my arms into the air. "Just like I don't have a say in anything that goes on in my life anymore."
Tears start to well up in my eyes making it hard for me to see. Daniel wraps his arms around me and I rest my head on his huge chest. He gently strokes the back of my hair and softly coos to me while I cry. "It won't be like this forever," He tries to reason with me before someone behind him clears their throat.
Peeking around Daniel's massive frame I see Ethan standing with his arms crossed and a very sour look on his face. "I thought I told you not to touch my fiance," Ethan growls at Daniel.
Daniel looks back down at me and rolls his eyes in annoyance. Dropping his muscular arms from around my waist, Daniel takes several steps back and nods to Ethan. "Next time I will just let her cry outside of the clinic all by herself," Daniel says sarcastically and Ethan growls lowly at him.
"Did you get the address," Ethan asks Daniel like I am not even standing right there?
"No, he didn't," I butt into the conversation. "And you won't get it from me either."
"After everything that your father has done you don't think that he deserves to die," Ethan rubs his hand across his face in frustration.
"I don't think he deserves to die," I lie. If I am honest I believe that my father deserves the most vicious death that can be dealt to him but I don't want my hands to be bloodied because of it.
"You can't mean that," Daniel says with an astonished look on his face. "He is a monster. Look at your face."
"I have seen my face. Thank you very much," I tell them both.
Daniel has moved and is standing next to Ethan. Both men are staring down at me with disappointed looks on their faces. "Emma," Ethan reaches out his hand to grab mine but I take a step backward. "You have to be reasonable."
"Reasonable!" I scream out. "You want ME to be reasonable. You are asking for permission to kill the only person that I have ever known as family. Was he possibly the worst father on the planet? Yes. Did he treat me like I was disposable? Yes. Do I wish that he would die? Yes, yes I do but not by my hands or because of me. My father will get what is coming to him eventually and that will be enough for me."
Daniel and Ethan look at one another, holding a silent conversation. Daniel shrugs his shoulders and murmurs something under his breath about me being perfect. Ethan growls quietly as Daniel walks away. Ethan looks back at me and holds out his hand to me once more. But instead of grabbing for me this time, he waits for me to come to him myself.
"Your father deserves some sort of punishment," He tells me when I finally take a step forward and take his hand.
"I am aware that you believe that he needs to be punished," I tell Ethan softly. "But I promise you that without me around he will eventually get what he deserves."
"I would like to at least put surveillance on him," Ethan wraps his hand around mine and I think curiously about the tingles that are growing stronger each time we touch. "Would you at least agree to that?"
"Hmm," I mumble as I realize that I have gotten caught not paying attention.
"I want to put surveillance on your father, just until we are legally married," Ethan says once again.
"I can agree to that," I tell him and Ethan pulls me in for a giant hug that I was not expecting.
His muscular arms wrap around my body and he pulls my body flush against his own. My face heats with embarrassment as the electricity between us feel palpable. I feel Ethan place a gentle kiss on the top of my head before he releases me from the hug.
"I promise not to let you down," He says so quietly that I almost miss it.
