Chapter 33 CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE
CAIUS
"The phone is ringing again. This time it's Alpha Morgan." Clayton says from the drivers seat.
"You're supposed to be driving, why are you checking your phone."
He shakes his head and puts the phone down.
"What if it's not about Maeva and your mate bond?" He asks.
I scoff. "It's about the mate bond and I'm tired of talking about it. If it's something serious, they would have sent a text after the tenth time we didn't answer."
Alpha Brent started calling by 11 pm last night. Luckily, I was still with Clayton discussing pack issues and I told him not to answer. I'm done talking about Maeva and the bond with people. My concern now is finding a worthy Beta for Shadow pack and that is all I am going to worry about this morning. After I have settled that, I will have the luxury of chance to worry about Maeva.
We pull up to the Shadow pack and find Alpha Brent waiting in front of the pack entrance. Damn, I guess it is something serious.
"Why were you not answering calls?" He asks.
He looks furious.
"Did anything new happen with the rogues or witches?" I ask.
"That is not important right now. You mate came to see the council last night."
My wolf perks up at the sound of that. I clench my jaw and ball my fists, preparing for bad news.
"What did she want?" I ask.
"She came to tell us that she will mate with her Beta and not you."
At the back of my mind, I know my claws are digging deep enough into my palms to cause them to bleed but I do not care. My ears are ringing and I'm fighting hard to control my angered wolf. He's growling and fighting for control. If I give it to him, the Beta will die.
"Are you even listening to me?" Alpha Brent says and I'm brought back to now.
"No. What else did she do?"
"I refused and this morning, she sent out a notice and invitation to all the Alpha's around, inviting them to her mating ceremony to her Beta."
I close my eyes and takes calming breaths. No need to get angry. It's exactly what she wants. She wants to make me look like a fool and I won't give her the satisfaction.
"Thank you for telling me. Clayton, let's go."
I walk past Alpha Brent and keep walking to the pack square where everyone has already gathered and are waiting for us to arrive and for the fight to start.
I stand stoically and let Clayton handle the fight. It occurs to me that it's dawn and Alpha Brent should not have known to find me here. Clayton must've answered the call sometime last night and told him where we would be.
In a way, it's his fault that I had to hear this bullshit before sunrise. It's not his fault it's happening though. It's Maeva's fault. She loves to test me. I've tried. I've been patient and understanding and she has rejected it at every turn. It ends now. This fire she has started, I hope she can put it out.
The crowd roars and my attention is brought back to the fight. The male wolf has won. I was sure it would be the female wolf.
Clayton looks back at me. "This is the part where you give a big speech and declare him Beta." He says through mind link.
"Do it. I'm not in the mood to make speeches. Also, put the female in pack leadership. She has shown tremendous strength."
He turns back to the people and steps in the middle of the circle. He starts talking and my mind wanders. Thoughts of the Beta's blood pooled around my legs and thoughts of Maeva writhing in pleasure beneath me, begging me to make her mine swirls around my mind.
When next I bring my attention back, the new Beta is bowing in front of me. I nod in recognition and Clayton apologizes that we won't stay back for the celebration as there is something urgent we have to do.
"Home or her pack?" He asks when we've gotten into the car.
"Her pack. Drive slow so I'll have time to loose some of this anger I'm carrying."
He nods and starts driving. He doesn't try to make conversation on the drive to her pack. He knows that conversation will only get me more angry.
We get to the entrance of the pack and the guards there refuse to let us in.
"You don't want to be he one who refused to let us in." Clayton says to the guard who's very adamant that we won't go further without directives from his Alpha.
Tired of the back and forth, I open the door on my side and get down from the car. I go around and I stand in front of the guard. "Let us through." I say, letting my Alpha voice deep through.
He covers and removes the barricade. I get back into the car and we drive to Maeva's pack house. She's outside the pack house with her Beta, pack warriors and other pack members.
"I do not appreciate you barging into my pack like this, Alpha Caius." She says.
I look down at her hands to see her holding the Beta whose hand is shaking in hers.
"Let go of his hand, Maeva."
"You don't tell me what to do." She says.
She turns to the Beta, pulls him down and kisses him. The little control I have on my wolf snaps and I slam into the Beta, taking him down. I'm on him in seconds, punching his face in. I know I won't kill him but I want to hurt him terribly.
Their pack warriors try to interfere but Maeva stops them with her hands. She then tries to pull me off the Beta and I get off the Beta and hold her. She throws a punch that hits my cheeks. I flex my jaw and calmly find the points I'm looking for in her body. I find the points and I press until she goes limp in my arms.
The pack warriors find their balls and come after me.
"This is an issue between mates. You don't have to die over it." Clayton says slowly.
He opens the door for me and I put her in the back seat. The warriors have now circled us and are advancing slowly. I don't mind it. The Beta wasn't enough, I need more people to take this anger out on.
The Beta slowly rises. "Stop. Let them go." He says and they stop.
Good for him but he should have never let Maeva use him like that. The only reason he's not dead is that I gave myself time to think about what killing him will mean.
I open the trunk and take out a rope. Everybody watches silently as I walk to the backseat and tie Maeva up with it.
"Is it necessary to tie her up in front of everyone?" He asks through the mind link.
"No."
