Chapter 108. Investigation into Jacintha's Past
When facing Raphael's sharp eyes, Jacintha felt slightly flustered, but immediately thought about everything he had done over the past two years, the humiliations she had suffered. She wondered if he was mocking her in a way she couldn’t comprehend.
Jacintha didn’t understand why Raphael suddenly said such things and didn’t want to waste time speculating.
She calmly said, “If I didn’t have money, I definitely wouldn’t be standing here drinking with you. Mr. Wulfhart, you’ve been born into wealth and have never known the feeling of lacking money, never known despair, and of course, you can’t understand the suffering of others. As for me, I’m just trying to survive. If you don’t like it, it’s fine.”
Because frankly, I don’t care whether you’re happy or not. Jacintha wanted to add more, but the words seemed to hide something, so she didn’t speak further.
Raphael didn’t receive the answer he wanted but was instead scolded by Jacintha. Angrily, he asked, “What do you mean?”
“Nothing.” Jacintha shook her head, opening the door, preparing to leave.
“Get out!” Raphael couldn’t control his anger. He immediately threw the wine glass at Jacintha’s back.
“Ahh!” Jacintha cried out in pain, feeling her spine ache in numbness. But she didn’t say anything more and just walked away from the club, step by step.
Raphael was so furious he gritted his teeth, then angrily kicked the table. He rarely lost control like this, and it seemed that every time, it had something to do with Jacintha. “Damn it!” Raphael muttered, his brows furrowed, a flash of fury in his eyes.
Tonight, Sharon had deceived him, and Jacintha had dared to humiliate him again. Raphael wanted to call someone to have Jacintha taken away so he could teach her a lesson until she learned to behave more obediently. But when he thought about Jacintha's cold attitude, Raphael felt disheartened.
So many people flattered him, yet Jacintha didn't care about his concessions. She even said she wanted to stay away from him. If that was the case, he had no intention of caring about such an annoying person like her.
Raphael poured himself another glass of wine, feeling the coldness of the drink as it passed down his throat. Gradually, the anger inside him eased a little. By the time he left the club, Raphael had regained his composure, and there was no longer any trace of anger on his face.
When he arrived at the villa, Cindy greeted him, took his coat, and asked, "Alpha, Ms. Jacintha hasn't come to pick up her things yet. What do you think we should do about it?"
"Throw it away," Raphael replied coldly.
"Yes," Cindy answered.
Soon after, Raphael saw Cindy carrying a pile of clothes, with the top item being the one he had seen Jacintha wear. At that time, Sharon had said she had one just like it. And that night, he had masturbated with that shirt of hers.
Raphael stared at the garment, his previously calm mood now turning into irritation. Jacintha's words suddenly echoed in his head: "You can't understand the despair of having no money, nor can you understand the pain of others."
These words made Raphael feel as though Jacintha was lecturing him on his ignorance, accusing him of not being empathetic to those struggling in life.
Raphael sneered and suddenly took out his phone to call Lucas. He wanted to know what this so-called "despair from not having money" that Jacintha mentioned was really like.
A healthy person, even without education, can still make money as long as they try. Could they really starve to death? In any case, Raphael did not believe that there was anything that could make Jacintha utter the words "despair." He thought it was likely just a trick she used to evoke his sympathy and get him to help her financially.
Soon, Lucas obtained information about Jacintha.
"... Ms. Jacintha lost both her parents when she was young, and at home, she only had her younger sister and grandmother. Her younger sister has congenital heart disease and requires regular medication. Her grandmother was an elementary school teacher and passed away when Ms. Jacintha was sixteen. When Ms. Jacintha was nineteen, her sister's heart condition worsened, requiring a large sum of money for surgery, so Ms. Jacintha made a deal with you. However, her sister’s surgery was unsuccessful, and when the illness relapsed for the second time, Ms. Jacintha had to borrow money at high interest rates..."
Upon hearing this, Raphael furrowed his brow and interrupted Lucas: "Why didn’t she sell herself?"
Lucas awkwardly responded: "I’m not sure, maybe Ms. Jacintha didn’t want to do that."
Raphael frowned: "Are you sure she didn’t sell herself to someone else? The first time, she sold her virginity to me for surgery fees, and the second time, I’m sure she’d do the same!"
The thought of Jacintha once having sex with else made him feel uneasy.
"According to my investigation, there’s really no evidence that Ms. Jacintha has had sexual relations with anyone else. Should I continue investigating further?" Lucas asked cautiously.
In fact, Lucas had helped Raphael investigate many cases over the years, from major to minor matters, and had never made a mistake. Therefore, the possibility of error in his investigation into Jacintha was very low.
"No need." Raphael frowned and replied, "Why didn’t she sell herself a second time but chose to borrow at high interest rates? Doesn’t she know that borrowing at high interest is a form of 'bloodsucking'?"
"I’m not sure..." Lucas thought to himself, wondering how he could know what Jacintha was thinking back then. "Perhaps no one offered her as much as you did, and she was in urgent need of money, so she chose to borrow at high interest as a solution."
This reason might be true. However, for some reason, Raphael had a strong intuition in his heart that there was another hidden reason, one that forced Jacintha to give up selling herself and choose to borrow money at high interest.
This intuition briefly crossed his mind, but before he could think deeper, Lucas once again drew his attention with new information: "Two years ago, Ms. Jacintha was pursued by a loan company for repayment, so she came to you again."
