Chapter 54 Then I’ll Leave First

Chapter 54 Then I’ll Leave First

"If you keep being so ungrateful, I'll destroy your entire family."

Vivian's jaw was clenched tight, her eyes filled with raging fury as she stared daggers at Flora, looking like she was ready to fight to the death.

Flora knew she really meant it and would actually do it. Unfortunately, the White family was no ordinary family—their power was not to be underestimated. If she dared to make a move against the White family, the Smith family would be the ones to suffer in the end.

She smiled faintly. "Go ahead and try."

Her nonchalant attitude made Michael, Susan, and Vivian think she was just being stubborn, putting on an act because she had Gavin's support.

Michael concealed the disdain in his eyes and advised with feigned kindness, "Flora, I know the gap between our families' backgrounds is huge and you're having trouble accepting your biological parents' status, but it's already a fact. There's no need to be so stubborn."

"Like I said earlier, the Smith family welcomes you back anytime. We can publicly announce that you're the Smith family's second daughter."

He walked slowly to Flora's side, his words seemingly persuasive but actually carrying a warning: "Everything requires moderation. If you keep refusing out of stubbornness now, it won't be so easy to return to the Smith family later."

Michael clasped his hands behind his back, his expression casual, confident that Flora would agree.

In his view, her previous rejections and resistance were all playing hard to get—she was deliberately putting on airs, wanting them to put in more effort so they would value her more later.

In this regard, she was much more skilled than Vivian. She really was the child he had raised for so many years.

Seeing Michael trying to win Flora over again, Vivian was both angry and anxious.

She was about to step forward when Susan quickly grabbed her hand and gently shook her head, leaning close to whisper in her ear, telling her to hold her temper for now.

"Once she returns to the Smith family, we can deal with her behind closed doors. We'll have plenty of ways to handle her."

Flora relied on Gavin. She had no power of her own. As long as they used their high society connections to pressure her, she would have to obey.

Finding some sense in this, Vivian immediately shot Flora a fierce glare and reluctantly shut her mouth.

Watching the three of them constantly elevating the status of the Smith family heiress, making the position sound incredibly desirable, Flora found it laughable.

When something good falls on the ground, who wouldn't know to pick it up?

Flora sighed softly, speaking with sorrowful pathos: "I never want to make things difficult for anyone. Since Vivian is so opposed to me, and you're only being polite out of obligation, there's no need for me to throw away my dignity and force my way back, making everyone uncomfortable."

Since they were putting on such a show, why couldn't she also act understanding and deliberately disgust them?

"Flora, you know that's not what we mean." Seeing her not only refusing to cooperate but actually turning his words around, Michael looked somewhat embarrassed. He cleared his throat and tried to explain: "When families live together, there are always arguments—even teeth and tongue sometimes clash. Before was just everyone adjusting to each other. We're just worried about you suffering outside."

"Dad sometimes speaks harshly, but he just wants you to see how complicated the world is. You used to work outside and everything went smoothly, all those business deals went through without a hitch—that was all because the Smith family was secretly protecting you behind the scenes. Did you really think it was because of your own abilities?"

With just a few words, he negated all of Flora's efforts, attributing all the credit to the Smith family.

Flora listened and smiled slightly, nodding along with his words.

Seeing this, Michael thought she had finally come to her senses. He immediately put on airs, planning to bring her back into the family and remind her of a few things, but then he heard her say: "You're right, all my past achievements were given by the Smith family. With the Smith family's power, it doesn't really matter whether I come back or not."

"In that case, I'll leave Vivian's situation for you to handle. I'm sure you and the Smith family members have ways to deal with it."

She glanced at her phone, putting on a look of sudden realization. "It's almost time to change my bandages. I'll head back now."

With that, she left without looking back.

"Wait!"

The situation had completely deviated from expectations. Michael panicked and stepped forward to stop her, but Flora and Gavin were faster, immediately locking the door behind them.

The moment the door closed, Vivian's panicked cry came through the crack: "What do we do now!"

"You still have the nerve to ask?" Michael was already irritated, and seeing Vivian crying endlessly, he couldn't help but scold: "I told you again and again to control your temper. But you wouldn't listen. Not only did you talk back in public, you even dared to insult Flora. Now look what you've done—you've driven her away. Let's see who can save you now!"

Vivian's body trembled at his harsh tone, tears streaming down her face.

Susan quickly pulled her into her arms, gently patting her back to comfort her, defending her: "You know Flora's personality—she never intended to help. Why should we humble ourselves like this?"

"If you ask me, Vivian was right to scold her."

She might be rash and impulsive, but that was better than groveling to that bitch.

"Dad, we still have you, don't we?" Vivian's nostrils flared, her eyes red-rimmed, her voice thick with sobs. "I believe you can save me."

Michael had always cared deeply about his reputation. Seeing Vivian depend on him like this, his mood softened slightly.

He still kept a stern face and let out a heavy snort, not immediately making any promises.

He ran around asking people for help, pleading in many quarters. But despite all his connections, nothing improved. Only one friend secretly tipped him off, saying someone had offended the heiress of a wealthy family, and today, no matter who tried, they wouldn't be able to bail out the person inside.

"Which family's daughter? Why such a big fuss?" Susan was both shocked and resentful, her tone full of confusion and frustration.

When power crushes people, there are huge differences even among wealthy families. If someone above had specifically ordered this suppression, then no matter how many people they asked, they would ultimately be helpless.

Vivian hadn't expected this turn of events. Seeing her parents at a loss, she grew more anxious and quickly asked: "What about tomorrow? Can you bail me out tomorrow?"

She didn't want to stay in this hellhole for another minute!

The three of them never imagined that the powerful heiress was actually Flora. They just felt incredibly unlucky and frustrated.

Michael couldn't say for sure about the timeline either. He could only keep a stern face while reassuring her that he would find someone to bail her out as soon as possible.

"But, but..." Thinking about having to return to that cramped little room, her heart sank.

She wanted to go home, to her spacious luxurious bedroom, to her closet full of designer bags.

Despite all her pleas, Michael and Susan, who had no solution, could only leave her there for now and depart.
