Chapter 135: Are You Sure You Want to Reject Me?
••• Charlotte's POV •••
My third-chance mate aka the mafia Alpha, Alpha Aleksander Luciano looked silently at me as if he was thinking about something.
He didn't answer my last question about what he actually wanted from me.
I pretended to be calm but in fact, I was panicking inside.
Everything didn't seem to make sense.
I remembered I had prayed to the Moon Goddess not to give me any more matebonds, but why did she still give me one? Did the Moon Goddess hate me and purposely give me another mate who was equally bad or even worse than Theo?
And I had lost Lexi. How was I still able to recognize a mate and feel the matebond?
This all felt wrong!
Could I still reject him if I didn't have a wolf?
I had been feeling a niggling feeling in my head ever since this third-chance mate of mine walked into the room and I blurted out the word 'mate'.
Could it be his wolf was trying to communicate with Lexi?
"Is your wolf trying to communicate with my wolf?" I asked him.
"If so, I suggest for you not to waste your or your wolf's time in doing that. First of all, I have no wolf and am very weak right now. You won't get any benefit in keeping me here with you. And second of all…"
This Alpha Aleksander seemed to not be affected by my words as he turned around to get a chair and drag it to my bedside with a raised eyebrow as if asking me why I stopped talking.
"Second of all, even if I have a wolf, I could guarantee that she will ask me to reject you and feel happy about it," I finished off my words with a threat.
However, Aleksander grinned and slouched onto the chair he had dragged. "I don't care about your rejection. No one could stop me from getting what I want, not even you, little mate. Why don't you try to reject me? I seem to recall that you have done two rejections and might have lost your wolf because of it. Are you sure you want to reject me?"
His words made me uncertain about rejecting him. What were the consequences of rejecting a third-chance mate? Rejecting Theo caused me to lose Lexi. Would rejecting Aleksander cause me to die?
My body shuddered at the thought.
That wouldn't do. I didn't want to die yet. I still hadn't told Hayden about my feelings and there were still so many things I wanted to do.
I looked at Aleksander who was still sitting languidly on the chair and had the same grin on his face.
He really seemed like he didn't care if I rejected him. How could one not care about his mate rejecting him?
I intuitively felt that this man was dangerous and couldn't really guess his character.
But what did I expect from a mafia Alpha?
"Where am I?" I asked him. I needed to know about my situation so I could plan what to do next.
"You are of course in my bedroom," he chuckled.
I rolled my eyes at him. Of course I knew I was in his bedroom. I realized the room was filled with his scent when we were talking.
But where exactly? Such a grand palatial bedroom… I couldn't be at the Hell Walker Pack, could I?
"I only have one bedroom," he said as if he could read my mind. "That is the one we are in at this moment, and it's at the Hell Walker Pack."
His words made my heart fall. If someone like Hayden needed an assist to get in and out of the pack, how could I escape by myself, then?
I was sure he would have told his pack members to keep an eye on me. There should be guards stationed outside my bedroom. Even if I could trick the guards, I wouldn't be able to escape as I was surrounded by his men.
"Charlotte," he called my name, interrupting my chain of thought. "I want you to accompany me to a party held at the Shadowfang Pack. I need a female companion and since you are my mate, you should be the one accompanying me."
Shadowfang Pack?
I searched my mind for information about the pack. It was said that Shadowfang Pack had the largest mineral deposits. However, it was also said that the members of the pack were brutal in nature. They liked to kill - they even killed each other, which prevented the pack from coalescing or becoming powerful.
Dad, Leo, and Hayden must have found out that I was missing. They must be worried about me and were searching for my whereabouts now.
If I could attend some functions and show my face outside, someone might recognize me and tell them about it. That should increase my chance of getting help.
"Alright. I'll go to the party with you, Aleksander," I told him. Since he called me by name, then I shouldn't call him by his title.
"I'll be your female companion," I added, pretending to agree with him and be cooperative when he didn't say anything.
"Can you untie me? I promise I won't run away." Even if I wanted to run away, I still needed to wait for some help.
He gave me a dangerous smirk and took out a folding knife from his pants pocket before approaching me and cutting off the ropes binding my hands and feet to the bed frame.
"You can run away, but think about the price you'll have to pay if you do that,' he said as he was cutting the ropes.
Madman!
I was now sure of my impression of him - dangerous and crazy!
I quickly sat up on the bed once he was done, and took off the remaining ropes from my wrists and ankles, rubbing the reddened skins caused by the friction from the ropes.
"I'll get an Omega to deliver some food. You must be hungry," he said.
Ignoring him, I lay down on the bed again.
"I'm tired. I need to rest," I told him, rolled my body to the side, and closed my eyes, knowing he wouldn't hurt me as I was his mate and still of use to him.
I heard the sound of his footsteps and the door being opened and closed.
I opened my eyes and stared at the wall blankly. My mind was in a turmoil.
Finding a new mate who was as bad as Theo even though I had no wolf, and being kidnapped just to lure Hayden to come here were something that I wasn't expecting.
I thought after everything that had happened, it was time for my relationship with Hayden to become better and we would get back together, but I guessed it wouldn't be that easy to have a happy life.
Hayden… How was he doing now? Was he okay? Was he able to protect himself and the Red Claw Pack? Did they suffer heavy casualties?
My head was aching from all those thoughts and the effect of the drug Aleksander had injected me with hadn't completely worn off yet.
I still felt weaker than usual and my eyelids started to feel heavy. I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep.
I didn't know how long I had been sleeping when I was woken up by the sound of guards changing shifts outside of the bedroom.
I pushed myself up to a seating position before placing my feet on the floor and tried to stand up. The sleep had helped and now I wasn't feeling so weak anymore.
I walked toward the door and opened it slightly to see a fat guard standing there. Another guard came to join him with his head down, but his head tilted up when he heard the sound of the bedroom door being opened by me. I was startled when I saw the familiar pair of dark eyes staring at me.
'Hayden!' I shouted in my mind.
How did he get here?
Even though his face was blackened with straw ash and he was hunching, I could still recognize him when our gazes locked with each other.
He signaled with his eyes for me to remain calm and I gave him a slight nod, telling him I understood his signal.
I opened the door wider and stepped toward the fat guard calmly.
"I'm famished. Can you go and prepare some food for me?" I ordered the fat guard.
He hesitated to do what I ordered him, but then Hayden spoke with a voice even hoarser than usual his usual voice.
"Go. It won't be good to let her be hungry. I will stand guard here. Nothing will happen to the prisoner."
The fat guard looked at Hayden. "Okay. If anything happens to her when I'm away, you'll be held responsible."
"Nothing will happen to her," Hayden repeated his words.
The fat guard huffed and left the two of us alone as he went away to get me some food.
Once we couldn't see the fat guard anymore, I stepped closer to Hayden and asked in a low voice, "How did you get here?"
