Chapter 23 his request

Chapter 23 his request
Amelia’s P.O.V. (Continued)

He looked at me calmly, but I couldn’t even breathe once. Was I so obvious on my emotions that he found it so easily?
“Don’t fret, pup. I am experienced enough to know by looking at a woman if she has given birth once or not,” he explained and I breathed out the breath I was holding.
I came shakily, showing how terrified I was. I shouldn’t have shown my weakness, but this was the most sensitive topic for me.
“The king strictly prohibited us from asking you about your story before you became rogue. But I only want to know if your pup is the product of love or abuse.” he asked further, and I ground my molars.
“Almost all the stories submitted by you guys is about abuse and unfair treatment by the packs to the people in your group, Amelia. But I really wished that it’s not the reason why you are in this group.” He added and I scoffed bitterly.
I looked in the other direction, blinking hard to stop my tears. I had heard from Marcus how manipulative these council members can be. Now I experienced it firsthand.
“Is your pup still alive?” he asked in a low and cautious voice.
“Why do you want to know about my pup, Alpha Noel? If this is about the proposal, then yes, this is also my attempt to give my pup a safe environment to live and groom.” I answered him coldly, moving my face in his direction.
He didn’t speak immediately but stared at me with a blank expression on his face.
I guess he was trying to find something from me to reject this proposal.
“I get how hard it is to trust rogues, and I assure you that we will have no grudge against the council or towards the palace if you guys decide not to allow us to form a pack, Alpha Noel. At most, we will find a way to place them somewhere in the human world.” I broke the silence by speaking to him.
I slowly stood up, not having any intention to continue this conversation.
“Sit down, Amelia. Did I say that this conversation has anything to do with your proposal?” he asked me sternly.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I had taken my medicine, but I was still not feeling well.
I sat down reluctantly, but I was sure that he could see my displeasure clearly.
“You are right that a pup born out of the pack safety doesn’t deserve a life as a rogue, and not every rogue wants to be part of a pack again. So, trust me on this that I support your proposal.” He spoke to me calmly, showing some sincerity in his words.
But I still found it hard to believe.
“This is about Melanie’s daughter, right?” I asked him in straightforward words.
He froze for a second but smiled the next second.
“Yes. This is about her.” He admitted it, and I scoffed inwardly. “If…. If I am going to give my vote to your proposal, this is only for that girl.” He admitted it without any hesitation.
He took a deep breath and leaned forward, putting his hands on the top of the table, looking a bit troubled.
“Is she still an orphan, or did someone from your group adopt her?” he asked me again, looking genuinely anxious, and now I got confused.
“This is important to know if she has a home now or not, Amelia. Don’t tell me the name of the couple or any other details about them. Keep her whereabouts a secret. It will ensure her safety.” He insisted, confusing me more.
“She has a home now.” I spoke to him in a low voice, still trying to determine if this was right to do or not.
“Oh, goddess!” he exclaimed aloud in relief, throwing his body backward, and threw his head backward too.
I felt his raw emotions. He was genuinely relieved.
Suddenly the door burst open, startling me to the extent that I almost lost my balance.
“It seems that you are more interested in my guest than you should be, Noel.” The king’s thunderous voice echoed in the room.
“It’s just a casual chitchat, my king. After all, not every day do we meet people like Amelia who put their people’s lives and safety above own safety.” Alexei replied calmly while standing up.
I also stood up and took a deep breath to calm myself down. I was now feeling dizzy again.
“If your conversation is finished, I want to take my guest with me, Noel.” The king told him sternly, standing right behind me, close enough to make me feel the heat of his body, but far enough to give me some space to breathe.
“We are done here.” Alpha Noel replied to him calmly.
He looked at me with a calm expression. “It’s really nice to talk to you, Amelia. I am looking forward to seeing you for the next meeting.” He said it to me, and I just nodded in response.
“Let’s go.” The king said to me coldly. I started walking towards the door but felt unease in my heart.
“Was it necessary to show your protectiveness towards me in front of him? Did you forget that one shouldn’t show any weakness in front of the people whom you can’t trust?” I asked him angrily under my breath.
“I need to grab your hand.” He said to me gruffly.
I stopped outside the door and looked at him in confusion, but my breath almost stopped when I found how close he was standing to me.
“I am going to grab your hand.” He repeated this angrily, looking at me with a dark gaze.
Arthur immediately jumped beside me, moving his shoulder in front of me protectively even when he was scared to death.
“Back away, Arthur.” The king growled, making my body tremble hard in fear.
“Where do you want to take me?” I asked him in a stiff voice, holding Arthur’s hand to stop him from saying anything.
The king growled and grabbed my sleeve. I trembled so hard in fear but gulped down hard because I was coming to the fact that he would grab my hand at any time.
It was a relief that he grabbed my sleeve. I released Arthur’s hand and gave him the laptop bag while the king started dragging me away.
“Be careful,” Arthur yelled in panic. I was already feeling dizzy, and the king was now running according to my pace.
“Do you really think that those old hags can help you when I can’t?” he muttered, pulling me harshly.
“Do you think that I was the one who wanted to meet him? Edwin has already told you that it was Noel Hatfield who asked me to meet him. Do you think I am powerful enough to refuse his order?” I grumbled, feeling completely disoriented by now.
“Alexander. Stop now.” I yelled when my head swung hard.
